A Night To Remember

Bishop Briggs, born Sarah Grace Mclaughlin, born in London, England is a 27-year-old singer-songwriter who has made quite a name for herself with songs like “White Flag” and “Never Tear Us Apart”. Her genre consists of dark, rock-influenced pop and was even featured on an Acura commercial for her song, “Wild Horses”. One of her most praised songs, “River”, gets a stunning makeover as the acapella group from Northwestern University, “Thunk A Capella”, exhibit a powerful new rendition. The result is a memorable performance that quite frankly blows it completely out of the water, or dare I say: river.

The stellar performance was captivated brilliantly in an auditorium filled with a very intrigued audience. The stage was orchestrated with a large group of performers mostly wearing black and led by solo vocalist Alexa Moster.

The group begins by harmonizing with their riveting vocal chords; filling the air with excitement. This was coupled with upbeat stomps that penetrated the airwaves and shook the ground open. “Like a river,” was continuously repeated in the background along with humming noises to provide an energetic pace for the performance.

Alexa Moster Brings The House Down

Soloist Alexa Moster then captured her moment under the shining spotlight. Her voice immediately reverberated beautifully as she began to raise it a couple of octaves. Her poise and confidence exuded in every movement of her hands and fluctuations of her voice. She clearly has terrific experience and is clearly no stranger in moments like these. The group of performers soon followed suit and intensified their swaying. The bolstering energy could be felt in every corner of the room as cheers from the crowd erupted in an instant.

Suddenly, the movement shifts to quiet for a few moments as the crowd begins to crescendo in a collective, “Woahohoh” that puts the audience in a trance. As the tempo began to slow down, a few snaps and clicks followed by a whispered, “like a river” ushered in the commanding voice of Moster as it boomed right through. Immediately the viewers were ignited by the passion behind Moster’s voice as they cheered even louder than before.

Moster displays a fiery, soulful talent as she clearly shines through the entire performance. The constant energy from her peers and the magnetic attraction gathered by the crowd has elevated this show to be viewed by over 50,000 people! It has made it to the top of Thunk’s most popular video of all time.

A special shout-out also goes out to the group, Freshman Fifteen, which consisted of those performers wearing lime green shirts. It definitely showed that the group members molded a great relationship with each other throughout this process. The clear euphoria lighting up their faces at the end showed exactly just how much energy they poured into making this project a reality.
