Keeping close friends around for almost your entire life is nearly impossible. It’s rarely ever done because unfortunately, it is natural for friends to grow apart. People move away, switch schools, make new friends, become consumed by work or their family and children… The list goes on forever.
Often times, the people we meet when we are kids don’t stick around for our entire lives. It does not matter if it is a wonderful relationship or not, sometimes it is simply out of our control.
In fact, to have a friend stick around for five years or so is a huge feat in itself!
However, these two friends, in particular, have pretty much ignored all of those factors. They’ve defied the laws of… friendship? Is there such a thing? Well, now there is!
Hailing from Colorado, these two friends recently celebrated their 84 years of friendship.
Seems pretty solid.
Phyllis Hines and Barbara Noone are the two friends, and if you do the math, you will find that this equates to a whopping 8+ decades of friendship! That’s a lot of decades!
But wait — it gets even better. In addition to their friendiversary, they also just celebrated their 95th birthdays. Yep, they both turned 95-years-old. Phyllis’ birthday was on January 5th and Barbara’s was on February 1. Seems like these two were bound to be friends since the day they were born!
The two always make an effort to meet at least once a month, especially on their birthdays.
Phyllis told TMJ4, “I honestly never ever remember being mad at her or having… you know how girls can be.” Barbara added, “She understands me… Most of the time.”
The two met when they were in seventh grade – a very long time ago for the two. That’s when the friendship began to blossom.
This is truly a friendship where both friends have seen each other go through just about everything. Lost husbands, wonderful achievements, raising families… You name it. What makes them so strong though, is that neither of them have let anything get in the way of their very special bond.
In the video below, see the two celebrate their 84th anniversary at Barbara’s nursing home library, which was decorated with balloons for the special occasion.
The two also enjoy their wine and cupcakes while exchanging laughs and reminiscing about everything in their lives and very, very, very long friendship.
It is genuinely so incredible that these two have stuck together for so long. So many people in their lives may have come and gone, but nothing could get in the way of Phyllis and Barbara. And here they are, celebrating something that is very celebration-worthy.
Take a moment to ask yourself, is there a friend in your life that you see sticking with you for 84 years? If so, send this to them for a smile!
