A 90-year-old woman got the surprise of a lifetime recently when a DNA test put her in touch with her long lost daughter that she had put up for adoption over 70 years ago.
When Elizabeth Pullen dropped her newborn baby girl off at the North Carolina adoption agency back in 1948, she never thought she would see her little angel again.
However, thanks to the power of DNA ancestry tracking, the two were finally able to reconnect.
Interestingly, the DNA match actually came through Pullen’s granddaughter Wanda LeBlanc. She and her family all received DNA test kits as Christmas presents. Then, when they got the results back, LeBlanc noticed a name on her matches list that she had never seen before — Lynne Wray.
The woman’s profile read, “I am adopted, and I have never met my birth family.”
LeBlanc was instantly intrigued and decided she had to contact the woman.
“I just emailed her right away. I had to know who she was,” LeBlanc told KATC.
What LeBlanc discovered was mind-blowing — Wray was her aunt. The two started talking on the phone, and as soon as they realized Wray was also Pullen’s daughter, she, of course, joined in on the conversation as well.
After a while, they knew they all had to get together to meet in person, and their reunion is one of the most heartwarming things we’ve ever seen. The moment Pullen sees her daughter for the first time after over 70 years was captured on camera by the local news agency, and the video is something you just have to check out for yourself.
The news station had the two stand up against each other, back to back facing in opposite directions.
Pullen can be seen all smiles and literally shaking with energy.
“I am so excited,” Pullen says in the video.
Then she glances to her side and sneaks a quick glance.
“Aww you’re taller than mama!” she says excitedly.
However, when the two turn around is when the real magic happens.
For the first time ever, they instantly dive into a giant embrace with one another, and both women break down in tears of joy.
The news team later interviewed the newly reunited mother and daughter to ask them how they felt in that moment, and their response is amazing.
“It was beautiful, it was just a blessing,” said Pullen. “We had been looking for each other for years and years and I was just so excited. I can’t explain.”
Since their reconnection, the two have been chatting nearly non-stop in an attempt to make up for lost time.
After 70 years, there is certainly a lot to catch up on.
“We did not stop talking for a solid week, and I think we could continue on talking forever, because she just is an angel,” said Pullen.
It is so incredible that Pullen and her daughter are now able to finally have a relationship with one another despite never having one while growing up.
And to think, it all started with a simple DNA test.
It was a Christmas gift that changed everything and the families will be forever grateful for how things turned out. We are so excited for them and wish them many more years of happiness to come.
