How about a little good news during this awful pandemic? People have been really concerned about their loved ones who are most susceptible to this virus, and that means grandparents, almost always.

Ian Hornby had a big scare when his grandfather was taken to hospital with pneumonia.

It turned out he had coronavirus.

But despite the odds being against him, Ianโ€™s grandad pulled through

Ian posted the video of his grandad leaving the hospital on Twitter and itโ€™s

so heartwarming to watch!

It features the hospital workers clapping for him as he is finally discharged, he thanks them as he walks down the hall and he revels in his hard, well-earned victory.

He expresses his appreciation while limiting contact. He likely canโ€™t get COVID-19 a second time, but the data on that is still inconclusive.

โ€œHealth officials in South Korea say itโ€™s unlikely these patients got reinfected with COVID-19 a second time since theyโ€™re testing positive for a second time so soon, but rather that some people with COVID-19 may be experiencing a viral reactivation.

Health experts in the United States donโ€™t think a reactivation of COVID-19 is likely since weโ€™ve never observed viral reactivation in other coronaviruses.โ€

Still, after a hardfought ten days of suffering with the virus, I think heโ€™s earned a quick highfive! (followed by a quick hand sanitization)

Seriously, itโ€™s a powerful video to watch. Ten days of being unsure whether or not youโ€™d make it out of the hospital alive would be utterly terrifying for anyone, let alone when your family canโ€™t even come to visit you.

Itโ€™s clear that people werenโ€™t expecting this 78 year old fighter to make it, considering the response he got for beating it and fighting his way to freedom.

But the fight isnโ€™t over for this brave man or the healthcare workers.

The healthcare workers will still be pulling crazy long shifts and putting their lives at risk every day, even when theyโ€™re following protocol.

And Ianโ€™s grandad will still have to continue limiting contact and self-isolating, staying vigilant and making sure the virus doesnโ€™t rear its ugly head back around at him.

Weโ€™re all rooting for you guys, stay strong!

Things are admittedly a mess right now, but I think we need to be conscious of how we operate moving forwards in the new normal after the virus. Itโ€™s not enough to thank these essential employees, and weโ€™re making them into martyrs and heroes without ever really asking them how they feel about it.

We need to reevaluate how we value members of our society and maybe work towards better treatment of important workers who weโ€™ve otherwise taken for granted. Next time you see a Karen yelling at a grocery store till worker, consider how hard theyโ€™ve been working through this crisis, and stand up for whatโ€™s right!
