Maybe you know someone, or have at least seen enough epic photos of David Bowie to be somewhat familiar with heterochromia. Never heard of it? Well, it’s the scientific term for two different colored eyes!
It occurs more commonly for animals than people, which means there are thousands, nay, hundreds of thousands of beautiful animals are somewhere out there running around with their stunning eyes sparkling in the sunlight.
And thanks to the good people of the internet, those photos have been shared and we’ve rounded up the best ones here. Enjoy!
1) This adorable puppy
Do they come any cuter? I don’t think so!
2) This cat that arrived with the Amazon shipment
Yes, hello I would like to order 4 more.
3) Meet Freckles the Dalmatian
He’s channeling his inner Snow White.
4) This spooky monkey
He am willing to put money on the fact that he can definitely speak to monkey ghosts.

The greenery of the garden really brings out his eyes! Absolute beauty.

Ladies, picture this. This good boy comes up to you in the tango club, holding this rose and asks you to dance. You’re married. What do you do?

You see heterochromia a lot in dogs and cats, but rarely in horses!

It’s interesting how the blue eye has a bigger pupil too.

Honestly I’m obsessed.
15) This Turkish Angora cat, Violet
This is one of the most common cat breeds that are found to have heterochromia.

He’s straight out of the Harry Potter universe I’m sure. Is this David Bowie as an animagus?
17) This innocent angel
She looks so cozy in her little sweater!
18) This mouse… sorry, I mean cat
The little hat is too much! It would have been epic if they’d color co-ordinated it with his striking eyes.
19) This cat who must be cold
Wow, naked cats are rare enough on their own, but a naked cat with two different colored eyes?! Also… is he wearing a sweater? I’m obsessed.
20) This fluffy husky puppy
I would die for him. Did you know huskies have some of the most common heterochromia? It’s most likely due to the lack of genetic diversity, but there’s no definitive answer as to why!
21) Is he tired, or bored?
This beautiful creature looks like he’s in a state of perpetual eye-roll. Kind of like a teenage daughter, but a pet, and forever. I still give him 12/10 cute points though.
22) This stunning arctic fox
I often wish foxes made good pets, but they really really do not. So alas, we’ll just have to admire from afar.

27) Heterochromia isn’t just for house pets
It occurs in big cats too!
28) And it’s not just for people
Our primate cousins have cases of heterochromia too! And albinism (when skin/hair/fur has no pigment and remains white) – this monkey has both!
29) Heterochromia is most common in white cats
And even white cats with black spots, or vice versa. Like this little fella.
30) This flower child
Look at that expression! This beauty deserves the world, and since it seems she has her own professional photoshoot, it’s safe to assume she’s getting it.
31) This big-eyed beauty
More importantly, this cat’s name is chicken.
32) Look at this fluff
Brown and blue go so well together, this is just further proof.

You’re telling me this isn’t a magical cat? That it doesn’t belong to a witch? There’s even a hand made broom in the photo. You will not change my mind.
39) A very good boy
This looks like an Australian Shepherd maybe mixed with another breed. Interesting how the heterochromia trait crosses over even in a mixed breed!
40) This cat can see your future
Legend has it, if you give her enough cat nip, she will share her worldly knowledge with you.
41) Eye patch
Those black patches just accentuate the pop of blue! Amazing.

43) This old boy
He’s going a little gray but that blue eye still shines!
44) This snow dog
He doesn’t seem like he’s happy to be out in the cold, but that one eye is so bright you’d be able to find him in a storm!
45) These heterochromia twins
Do they have the same parents?! How crazy is it that the blue eye is on the same side!? Can I pet them?
I have more questions.
46) Does this count as a spot?
No dalmatian looks exactly the same and this heterochromia makes him even more unique!

Beautiful eyes and fluffy ears. Flawless.
59) This photogenic cat
Honestly, this cat looks like a renaissance painting.
60) Meet Venus, The Two Faced Cat
Not only does she have two different colored eyes, but a very distinctive line down the middle of her face. It’s almost like an angel and devil situation if you cover one half with your hand to compare – so interesting!
61) Butters the Corgi
Look at this little guy! I didn’t think corgis could get any cuter, I thought they were already at the top of the scale. And the little bandana?!?!
62) Bowie the Tuxedo Cat

That orange looks even more beautiful with that pop of blue – pow!
72) Mismatched spots
