A Utah man named James Pinegar and he is 86-years-old; he is suffering from a terrible blood infection and is afraid that his days are numbered. His wife, Colleen, stays with him near his hospital bed.
The video was uploaded on YouTube, and itโs been viewed almost 2 million times.
James calls his wife over to the side of his bed, and you can hear him say, โthis is special to me.โ Then they begin singing a classic song that is dear to their hearts. Itโs about to get emotional.
The elderly couple begins to sing the song โYou Are My Sunshine, โ and itโs beautifully tear-inducing.
As the sweet, loving couple sings the lyrics with one another, they look lovingly into each otherโs eyes. You can feel how much they love each other through the screen.
Itโs clear that this is a special song to the couple and that theyโve sung the song together hundreds of times. They perfectly harmonize, and you canโt help but tear up while watching them sing.
As the song closes to the end, James sings the last lyric โplease donโt take my sunshine awayโ through a shaking, sobbing voice.
The thought of James no longer having his sunshine, Colleen โ or vice versa โ is devastating to him, and you can tell when he finishes singing the song with his wife. Itโs heartbreakingly beautiful.
The coupleโs grandson filmed the video. His mom, their daughter, talked to Today and said this:
โI was visiting my dad in the hospital, and my son and his wife were there, and he wanted to film his grandpa, who he is very close to,โโ Whitaker told TODAY.com. โMy dad is very sentimental and having gotten this blood infection felt his life was short, and that song is their theme song. I had my son put it on (YouTube) so family and friends could see his great love for my mom.โ
Thankfully, Jamesโ health has improved, and his wife was there by his side every step of the way. We love that this precious moment was caught on camera.
