Whether going out for a romantic dinner, having lunch with a friend, or dining at a restaurant while away on vacation, you look forward to food that looks and tastes great. After all, you carefully chose the place to eat so your expectations are high.
Unfortunately, even the best-laid plans fail. Instead of the beautifully plated meal you ordered, you end up with, well, not what you anticipated. Sometimes, a server simply misunderstands what people want but other times, the mess up is intentional. No matter which one it is, you end up with something so bad, you can’t help but laugh.
These 60 photos represent some of the worst food fails shared on the internet.
1. Disney cruise masterpiece
You have to hand it to Disney cruises. The staff members go out of their way to make everyone happy, kids and adults alike. They love to make people smile. One server accomplished just that by bringing a guest what they ordered for dessert — “nothing.”
2. Lost in translation
While in Schweinshaxe, Germany, one man had a big, delicious meal. Afterward, he asked his server for a little beer. And that’s exactly what they delivered. It appears the request got lost in translation.
3. Do-it-yourself service
You’d think ordering something simple wouldn’t be a big deal. But when a guy asked his server for a glass of lemonade, this is what he got. This guest had no idea they’d chosen a restaurant where you have to make your own beverage. Well, that saved him a little on the tip.
4. Taco Bell surprise
If you ever eat at this Mexican fast food restaurant, you know they often change their menu. They’re now serving a special gordita-taco wrap complete with cardboard paper. Hey, don’t knock it until you try it. It might be good.
5. It’s all in the details
The next time you want a beef sandwich with cheese and pickles only, you might want to be very specific. Unfortunately, this guy requested this exact kind of sandwich. But perhaps he should’ve also mentioned he wanted bread.
6. No Barista experience required
From this photo, that’s an understatement. This person ordered a double espresso. For those of you who drink that, you know it’s a double shot of espresso…not two individual servings. At least the cups are pretty.
7. Quantity not quality
As an increasing number of people opt for healthy dishes, lettuce wraps and sandwiches have become quite popular. But at this restaurant, it appears they’re more focused on serving their customers quantity over quality. Come on, an entire head?
8. Behind the scene snickers
Especially if this wasn’t done on purpose, the staff was probably laughing up a storm at the customer who ordered a cup of coffee with bay leaves. The only problem…this guest had asked for a cup of Bailey’s coffee. Oh, so close and yet so far. Who’s laughing now?
9. This is a joke, right?
For those of you who don’t know, in some states, people who want extra crispy bacon will request “crispy pig face.” Well, it appears the chef at this restaurant took the guest’s order literally. What is that thing, do you dip it in sauce, and how much does it cost?
10. Texas versus France
Even when you’re a world apart, you can usually order a well-known menu item and you’ll get something that’s relatively close. But for anyone from Texas who plans to order a taco in France, be prepared for whatever this is. It doesn’t even look appetizing.
11. Heavy sigh
If you order a plain hamburger, you expect a cooked beef patty on bread with tomato, onions, pickles, and condiments on the side. In Malaysia, there’s a completely different interpretation. Order a plain hamburger and you’ll end up with this.
12. Billions served and counting
In 1994, McDonald’s stopped counting the number of people served. After reaching more than 90 billion, it became a moot point. But with those numbers, you can tell this fast food chain is always eager to please its customers. Case in point, this ice cream sandwich ordered by a customer.
13. The definition of “extra”
All this customer wanted was some extra icing on the cinnamon roll he ordered from Hardees. Obviously, the individual who made this has a very different opinion of what “extra” means. There’s so much icing, it’s hard to tell if there’s even a cinnamon roll involved.
14. Check Webster’s
According to this dictionary, the word double means “consisting of two equal, identical, or similar parts or things.” So, when ordering a pizza with double the pepperoni, this individual was simply asking for twice the amount. Perhaps the person who made this pizza should’ve done some research first.
15. Bartender’s first day on the job
If you’ve ever bartended, you know it’s not all that easy, especially with so many new drinks available. But when a woman ordered a strawberry pomegranate mango margarita (notice it’s singular) she ended up with three drinks. Hopefully, she had a designated driver.
16. Fruit salad, anyone?
While visiting China, an individual went to a restaurant and decided to order a fruit salad. But for whatever reason, the server brought them a plate of pasta, tomatoes, and mayonnaise. Perhaps fruit is something different overseas.
17. Fruit salad…take two
Perhaps a restaurant in Marakeesh does a better job of making fruit salad for their customers. Then again, maybe not. While they were a little closer, they still failed miserably. Is it really that hard to make?
18. Someone’s having a bad day
In this case, it’s both the person who made this sandwich and the customer who ordered it. Why is making a hamburger with ketchup only so difficult? Seriously, how can anyone miss the mark this bad?
19. Turn up the hearing aid
When an individual asks for a side order of onion rings, it doesn’t mean to put rings of onion on the side of a to-go box. Either the person who did this was mad at the world, didn’t care, or needs a new hearing aid. We’re pretty sure it’s all three.
20. Does this count?
Although not everyone is a fan of Wendy’s, most people agree they have good chili. So, one customer ordered that but wanted extra onions added. In all fairness, they got what they requested.
21. What?
In what universe does a restaurant serve this to a customer who ordered a chili burger? Where’s the meat? What about cheese? Where did they get that huge pepper? We have so many questions about this one.
22. Nice and crunchy
For people who enjoy bagels, it’s not uncommon to toast them. Obviously, this customer needed to be more specific as to how toasted they wanted their bagel. This is equivalent to well-done. Just gross.
23. What were they thinking?
When you visit an ice cream shop, you can choose between a sugar cone, waffle cone, or cup. A customer wanted two orders of ice cream, each in a cup. It’s amazing that some people can even get out of bed in the morning…this individual is one of them.
24. A lot of people love Brazil…
…just not their tomato salads. Yep, this is what a customer received. Let’s hope they really love tomatoes and had some antacid on hand. For one thing, these don’t even look ripe. And secondly, the presentation is lacking big time.
25. Love the humor
Sometimes, restaurant work can become monotonous. So, to bring a little more excitement to the day, when a co-worker asked for some mango salsa to take home, this is what she got. Funny, very funny.
26. Well, that’s interesting
When one person ordered a milkshake to go, they expected it to be in a cup, you know, like most restaurants do. But no, whoever made this took the hard route. How’s the customer supposed to drink that thing?
27. Delicious nachos
They might’ve been if the cheese was hot and melted cheese and if the customer got more than four tortilla chips. What a disappointment. Perhaps this is some new way of making nachos…we certainly hope not.
28. They almost got it right
A lot of people love cheesy breadsticks to go along with pizza. After all, it’s the full experience. But when this customer ordered pizza and eight cheese sticks, the restaurant got half of it right. Does cheesecake even go with pizza?
29. A good rule of thumb
If you have to explain a dish to your server, you might choose something else from the menu. Here’s a perfect example. This customer wanted affogato, which is an Italian coffee-based dessert. But instead of getting that, they received an avocado smothered in ice cream, sitting in a puddle of coffee.
30. Not surprising
A university dining hall is very similar to a military mess hall. They both serve nasty food. When ordering four tacos, this individual was presented with this mess. The person who made this didn’t even get the meat inside of the taco shells. Where’s their sense of pride?
31. They failed in math
How can you tell? Well, this customer wanted five, repeat, five extra peppers on their pizza. As you can see, there’s a lot more than that. We’ll give the individual who made this a little credit…they might not be able to count but at least they didn’t skimp.
32. Pay attention, please
That’s the problem with a lot of servers. They’re so busy that they don’t always hear what the customer asks for. This individual wanted coconut water. Instead, they ended up with a Coke and a glass of water. What can we say?
33. That’s beyond disgusting
If you’ve ever had chicken and waffles, you know they’re pretty darn good. Well, that’s what this person wanted. Whatever this is doesn’t even come close. Our suggestion…go to a different restaurant the next time you want chicken and waffles…one that actually uses chicken.
34. No explanation
Cheese fries with a burger…no problem. Unless you order it from this place. Here’s what’s really confusing. This is a standard item on the menu. You’d think after serving like 500 of these the chef would know better and the server would catch the mistake.
35. Notice the difference
Veggie burgers are all the rage, at least in the United States. But if you travel to Northern Ireland and order one, you’ll get a burger made of beans. Are you confused? The photo on the left is what a real veggie burger should look like while the one on the right is what a customer received at a restaurant in Ireland.
36. They ruined a perfectly good sandwich
A lot of people like extra mayonnaise on their crispy chicken sandwich. It adds just the right amount of flavor. So, this customer wanted some on both the top and bottom. And that’s exactly what they got.
37. This can’t be real
Sadly, it is. Two brothers traveling through Nairobi stopped at a place to eat. They decided on cheesy onion rings. We get the feeling restaurants there have never heard of that before. The sprigs of parsley are a nice touch, though.
38. Something seems to be missing
Hmm…okay, there’s the crust, the sauce, and cheese. Oh wait, we see it. This restaurant forgot to put pepperoni on the pepperoni pizza the customer ordered. But why just the one…we’ll never know.
39. Stupidity at its best
Okay, we know that’s not a very nice word but in all honestly, there’s not a better one to describe this epic fail. You see, a mother ordered a coke and an extra cup for her child. This is what the server gave her.
40. What in the heck is that?
Unless someone told you, you’d probably never guess. You’ve likely noticed a theme when it comes to the word “extra.” Here we go again. This is what an individual got after ordering extra mayonnaise on their sandwich…no kidding.
41. Not even close
If you went to a restaurant and ordered chips and cheese, would you expect this? For one thing, French fries and chips are completely different. While the server got the cheese part right, they failed miserably on the execution.
42. So, it’s not just Mickey D’s
You already discovered that McDonald’s doesn’t know what an ice cream sandwich is. But apparently, restaurants in Thailand have the same problem. This is their version of an otherwise delicious ice cream treat.
43. Fresh blueberry muffins
Few things taste better than blueberry muffins fresh out of the oven. That first bite of sweet bread and juicy fruit is to die for. But for this customer, they didn’t get what they paid for. One blueberry just doesn’t cut it.
44. Two ounces isn’t enough
Orange juice is so good with breakfast. Not everyone, like this customer, wants a large glass. So, this individual ordered a small one. But only getting two sips of OJ is wrong on every level.
45. Taking things way too far
When a customer at subway ordered extra pickles on their sandwich, this was the last thing they expected. We’ll bet this was the employee’s last day and they were out to make every customer angry. And they might’ve succeeded with a stunt like this.
46. Taking things literally
When training new employees at Taco Bell, one of the first things they should cover is not to take customers’ orders literally. Otherwise, this is going to continue to happen. You want sour cream on the side…you got it.
47. Speaking of taking things too literal
When this guy ordered a Bud Light with lime in a glass, the bartender was more than happy to oblige. But how did he understand that to mean four glasses of beer, each with a wedge of lime? That makes no sense.
48. Better luck next time
When ordering an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich from McDonald’s, this customer fully expected for everything to be inside of the English muffin. Let’s just say that’s not what she got. Perhaps the next time she orders one, they’ll get it right.
49. On a diet and didn’t even know it
It was really nice of this restaurant to support this customer as they tried to lose weight. The only issue, the individual who ordered this wasn’t on a diet. Nope, the cook simply forgot to add all the ingredients.
50. No way
If McDonald’s runs out of chicken for their sandwiches, they should just be honest with customers. Trying to pass nuggets off as a chicken breast is so lame. Shame on them.
51. How convenient
The next time you order a burrito from Taco Bell, you can quickly confirm that it’s fresh. Just look at the expiration date stamped right on the tortilla. Somehow, this makes the burrito far less appealing.
52. Wow…that’s fancy
Are you looking for a new and exciting hamburger? If so, just head to your nearest Burger King for the Upside-Down Burger. Okay, this isn’t really a menu item nor should it ever be. Perhaps someone was still recovering from the previous night out.
53. Almost made it
Just three inches over and the cook at McDonald’s would’ve landed this piece of cheese right in the center of the burger. But as it is, the cheese is only reinforcing the lid. At least the customer won’t have to worry about the box falling apart.
54. Hope they have good insurance
Typically, Sonic has pretty good food. But if there’s one thing you never want to be served, it’s undercooked chicken. Hopefully, this franchise has excellent personal liability insurance because someone is bound to get sick.
55. That’s a new concept
In looking at this photo, it seems that Pizza Hut is trying something new. Cheese pizza minus the cheese. That’s probably not going to go over very well with customers.
56. Hate it when that happens
This customer was longing for a yummy, chocolate covered donut from Tim Hortons. But what they got instead was a donut with chocolate icing on the side. Sorry, but it’s just not the same.
57. Here’s a suggestion
Since it seems that so many restaurants have trouble getting cheese on the center of their sandwiches, perhaps you should start bringing your own. That way, you can place it where it belongs instead of like this.
58. Yeah, okay
A lot of people love scotch eggs. And if you’ve never tried it, you should. But bringing this dish to a customer’s table in a trophy? That’s beyond weird.
59. Michelin Star chef want-to-be
It takes years of education, training, and practice to reach Michelin star status. In looking at what this chef served to a customer, they have a long way to go. And quite possibly, they’ll never even come close.
60. Who thought this was a good idea?
Really? Being creative is fine but who in their right mind came up with the brilliant idea of serving coffee in a hollowed-out carrot? Someone needs some serious help.
