Then there are the moments when you get the bad or weird kind of surprise when you bite into something or cut it open and there’s something in there that shouldn’t be.
The truth is, there’s a lot of “stuff” lurking inside everyday objects that we could have never known was in there.
From random objects used to add weight to creative ways of “recycling,” you’re about to see some surprising things. And some of them will give you new insight into the way the world works and where some of our random stuff ends up!
1. Doll head inside a toy horse
Apparently there were too many doll heads in the factory and some of them got repurposed.
But it would be a lot less creepy if they didn’t have faces.
2. Pill capsule filled with little pills
But we’re content to just say we assumed those capsules were always filled with powder.
Apparently not!
3. Old toothpaste boxes inside an iPad case
We can’t help but appreciate that these aren’t sitting in a landfill somewhere.
4. Crane fly inside a roll of tape
Isn’t this kind of how Jurassic Park started?
5. 6 AAAA batteries inside a 9-volt battery
That means putting 6 of them together equals 9 volts.
And more and more people are opening up their 9V batteries (which technically isn’t a great idea) to find that’s exactly what’s inside.
6. A heart inside Cookie Monster
The Cookie Monster toy that this dog-owner found at a garage sale had a cute plaid one.
That pup looks like it feels a little guilty for disembowling him now.
7. A can within a can
Somehow, the can was manufactured around another can.
That certainly makes it a challenge to get to your beer!
8. A Bic lighter inside of a larger Bic lighter
That means inside each one lies just a regular old Bic.
That seems like an awful lot of plastic though.
9. Pawn inside a Queen
We’re not sure how these chess pieces managed to end up inside one another, but perhaps the company manufacturing them made extras and needed some weight to fill in the larger pieces.
10. A wrapped ice cream cone inside a cone
That’s not the summertime treat we’d be hoping for.
11. A tape measure inside a snap bracelet
It makes sense, but it still surprised us since we didn’t know a tape measure would curl around our wrist.
12. A punching bag full of old clothes
Hey, at least they’re not in the ocean!
Our only concern would be how clean they (but only once they were laying all over our floor).
13. A crawdad inside a bass
But that’s one hungry bass if it just ate a crawdad and went back for more when it saw the fisherman’s bait.
It was his gluttony that killed him in the end.
14. Two snowmen inside a frog lawn ornament
Apparently, during the manufacturing process defective or broken items are reused as filler to add weight in other larger items
Now we kind of want to break open all the ceramic ornaments we see.
15. A cigarette inside a tape dispenser
But, hopefully, it doesn’t come with an old, used cigarette butt too.
That’s pretty gross.
16. A green pepper growing inside a red pepper
We’re just impressed that the pepper inside managed to get so big.
How heavy do you think that red pepper was when it was purchased?
17. A buff pig inside a pig toy
Once your dog gets enough exercise to finally tear it apart, there’s a buff pig waiting inside to show them just what getting their fitness on can do for your body!
18. Orange within an orange
In this case, there was an orange growing inside another orange – complete with its peel!
We have to admit we’d feel a little ripped off by the lack of edible fruit though.
19. Sprouting seeds inside an apple
That’s what’s going on with this apple that someone cut upon one morning.
And in addition to being pretty cool, the apple is still edible.
20. George W. Bush inside Frankenstein’s monster
But can we stop calling the monster Frankenstein? That was the name of the doctor who created him!
21. A book with a random chapter inside
Maybe it’s a two-for-one, but we’d be a bit annoyed if all of the pages from the book we were trying to read weren’t there.
22. Styrofoam inside a concrete table
But some Redditors insisted that many concrete tables have a lighter filling on the inside, otherwise they would be too heavy to move.
23. Bullets inside a log
You can still see the bullet trails in the wood grain.
We just hope the tree was all they hit.
24. A golfball inside a log
Someone was definitely doing too much strength training and not enough accuracy practice.
25. A grape inside a grape
But the real mystery here is who eats their grapes in two bites?
26. A monk inside a Buddha sculpture
Scrolls at the bottom of the statue identified the monk inside as a man named Liuquan who may have practiced “self-mummification.”
The statue is currently being stored in an undisclosed location since two people are claiming it belongs to them.
27. A tiny orange inside of an orange
We love the dedication of the person who peeled that tiny orange inside – just look at the teensy slice!
28. A sad cactus inside a happy cactus
Or else someone had a great sense of humor and decided to troll some dog owners into feeling guilty for letting their dog tear apart a stuffed toy.
It is quite a waste of material – but maybe the remnants ended up in someone’s punching bag!
29. A die inside a die
It looks like someone wanted to create a heavier and larger die and had some extras lying around from the last run.
Seems like a good way to reuse and recycle.
The bonus is you have another die if you break the first one!
30. Chinese sheet music inside a bookbinding
Some enterprising commenter found the song, called 哦满了伤痕的头 which can be heard here.
31. Women’s deodorant inside shoe deodorizer
What we really want to know is which one is more expensive – because we’re willing to bet it’s the women’s product.
32. A loaf of bread inside a loaf of bread
The good news is that now you can make a bunch of tiny sandwiches!
The bad news is that you’re stuck with some really oddly-shaped larger slices.
33. Newsprint inside fried chicken
Someone found words inside of their fried chicken breading.
Keep the messages in the fortune cookies.
It looks like someone needs to inspect this kitchen!
34. A hippo diaper inside of a rope
But there are dozens of photos floating around showing the different types of diaper plastic that are used on the inside.
How odd.
We can only assume it was extra and no one is “recycling” used diapers.
35. A wasp nest inside a railing
Not only was it broken after simply being leaned on, it’s full of wasps!
36. A die inside a Knight
Again, we’re just grateful that this stuff is being used instead of winding up in the trash.
37. Hands inside a bra
Bra support is great, but this kind of seems like a guy’s idea.
38. A face in a margerine container
Especially one that looked so disappointed in us!
39. Neverending pith inside an orange
We’d be pretty pithed off not to get any fruit.
40. A water bottle inside a dog toy
Any germs would be long gone, but since the label is still intact it doesn’t appear to have been sanitized.
Then again, it could have just been an unused bottle.
Now we know what makes that crinkling sound inside dog toys purchsed in China!
41. A smaller screwdriver inside a screwdriver
Apparently this factory decided it needed to manufacturer bigger screwdrivers so it just added some more plastic to the handle of the old ones.
From the way this broke though it looks like they need to improve some part of the process.
42. A pig playing guitar inside a frog decoration
This time the two-frogged ornament revealed a pig playing guitar inside.
We wonder what sound that frog made.
43. A tongue inside a watermelon
It looks kind of gross, but commenters insisted it was the juiciest and sweetest part – and it’s seedless!
44. A bee inside a bottle of honey
That poor guy didn’t get a very dignified send-off for all of his hard work.
45. Broken pools balls inside a bocce ball
The stuff inside is called “regrind” and one commenter explained that “Regrind is any material that has been processed once and can include any material cleaned from the mold or any rejected parts.” It’s used to cut costs but when larger pieces are used it can increase stress at certain points and make objects like this more prone to cracking.
46. Eggs laid inside an almond
We don’t know why someone took such a dainty bite of an almond, but they’re probably glad they did after this discovery!
47. Snacks inside a new suitcase
We’d be pretty wary of eating those.
But do you think they came as a free gift or did someone return a suitcase and forget that’s where they were hiding their junk food?
48. A “paw print” inside a crayon
That was probably the only good thing about breaking it.
49. A car charger inside a USB charger
Instead of heading for the landfill, this car adapter was made into a USB charger.
And as long as it works safely, who cares what it used to be?
50. Replaceable batteries inside a “one use” phone charger
Who manufactures an item marketed for one-time use when there are actually replaceable batteries inside?
It looks like for every attempt at recycling there’s at least one extra bit of waste.
51. An egg inside an egg
We’ve heard of double yolks but we’ve never seen an egg with a shell inside another.
A commenter who knew their chickens explained: “It’s called a counter-peristalsis contraction. When one egg passes through the oviduct and then instead of passing further, goes back. It then can become part of another egg forming in the hen.”
It happens more often in young chickens.
52. A message inside a zipper
Just don’t ask anyone if they want to read what’s inside your zipper.
53. A restaurant with a truck inside
It looks like someone expanded quickly into a brick-and-mortar location.
But is that all up to code?
54. A lemon growing another lemon inside
And it looks like ALL those seeds are sprouting!
55. A package of shaving cream inside a can of shaving cream
We all need to work on what we demand of companies when it comes to manufacturing the packaging of their goods – this is just too much waste.
56. Anime inside a mouse pad
Work and play, together at last!
57. An extra USB port inside a car charger
We don’t know if both work or if it would overload if both were used, but we’d probably be tempted to try it out.
58. A beehive inside a tire
That is very much the last thing we’d want to see if we were having trouble with our tires.
But now we know what the problem was!
59. A frog inside a bell pepper
He looks pretty happy to chill there, even though it’s a mystery as to how he got in and survived as the pepper grew around him.
60. A family photo inside a knife handle
Although it’s still kind of weird to open one up and see a photo of someone else’s family.
We hope this is less sinister than it looks!
“It’s what’s on the inside that counts.” (Unless it’s a beehive, then get out of there!)
Clearly we’ve known for a long time that not everything is what it seems to be at first glance.
What do you think might be lurking inside your household goods?
