Count yourself lucky that you probably had a normal childhood.

Some kids arenโ€™t born as healthy and scot-free as most of us.

Every now and then, a child is born with a lot more battles to fight than most of us.

6-year-old Zola was born with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, but no one knew that just yet.

The ultrasound has already revealed two strange shapes.

One in her head, and one in her heart. Though it didnโ€™t match anything the doctors knew at the time.

Her mother, Brittan, had already suffered miscarriages before. So the risk during pregnancy was certainly there.

It was during the tests and bloodwork stage that those two strange markers in her brain and heart were discovered.

The doctors mistook them for false positives, though.

They didnโ€™t match anything on their list of common genetic conditions.

Brittan already suspected something was wrong when Zola wasnโ€™t cognitively developing after 6 months.

Her pediatrician confirmed that this was strange.

Years later, a 2-year-old Zola suffered a seizure in their home.

She suffered several more seizures even after a hospital visit.

The doctors then discovered that Zolaโ€™s tonsils were enlarged and opted for surgery to remove them.

Enlarged tonsils could obscure her breathing if not treated early.

Zolaโ€™s parents were optimistic that this tonsil surgery would fix all of Zolaโ€™s problems.

So they had Zola undergo the surgery.

She seemed a bit dazed and woozy when it was all over, but this didnโ€™t seem out of the ordinary.

Things got scary 6 days later when Brittan noticed Zola was laying on the floor with blood rushing out from her face.

A few nights later, Zola ran into her parentsโ€™ room and began hemorrhaging in the middle of the night.

This terrified her parents, who called 911 immediately.

Zola had lost quite a lot of blood after hemorrhaging for 10 days straight.

Though the doctors assured them theyโ€™d do everything, her family was of course worried to death.

Zola had lost a dangerous amount of blood, after all.

Her brother, Bryston, was so distraught for his sister that he slept in her spot for many days.

After Zola returned home from the ER, she asked her mom a peculiar question.

โ€œWhen can I see God again?โ€

Brittan never expected to hear this question.

They never talked about faith or spirituality much before, and Zola never โ€œdied.โ€

Yet the 6-year-old was serious.

โ€œWhen did you see God, Zola?โ€ her mom asked her.

Zola answered simply, โ€œThe night I died.โ€

Zola claimed she had met Jesus.

She recalls hugging him and how he thanked her for being his friend.

This was huge, of course.

The Lord visited Zola when she was in a dangerous condition, and she remembered it very clearly.

Before all of this, Brittan admits her familyโ€™s faith in the Lord could have been a little stronger.

I guess now they had a reason for that faith to be stronger than ever.

They learned that Zola had a very rare genetic condition known as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

The condition affects the connective tissues. So Zola bleeds and bruises easily. But she has God by her side and knows she shouldnโ€™t worry too much.

Her family began Zolaโ€™s Zebras to bring more attention to conditions like the one Zola has.

Zola is one heck of a fighter, and she has little to fear with God by her side.
