Being 6 doesn’t mean you’re incapable.

Kids are often thought to be dependent and vulnerable. So when in times of disaster, they are not expected to rise above the occasion. At least not that much.

But a mom from Hanover County can stand proud as her little daughter proved that kids can save lives. And in this particular predicament, her daughter flipped the odds with her quick reaction and thinking.

Dejaa Etheridge was preparing to drive her daughter to school.

While they’ve done this regularly, this specific morning was different for the disabled veteran and mom of two kids.

Dejaa was receiving treatment from the VA for injuries she sustained during her service. She took meds the night before and was feeling the side effects the morning after.

She was feeling dizzy and dehydrated.

After preparing their things, she started the car and went upstairs to her bedroom just to take a quick nap.

“I was just trying to shake off some of the dizziness before getting behind the wheel of a car to take my daughter to school,” she said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

But she won’t even make it up the stairs.

She passed out and fell right in front of their stairs. Dejaa even said that she heard herself hit the ground but right after that everything just went black.

Dejaa, as a responsible parent, taught her kids to dial 911. And while she prepared her kids for situations like these, she didn’t really expect that it would happen to them. Luckily, however, this training paid off.

Jordynn rushed to her mother’s aid.

She heard her mom hit her head and quickly managed the situation. She dialed 911 to get the paramedics to their house and when she was asked for their address, Jordynn’s actions was more than impressive.

As caught in their home security camera, Jordynn ran out to their mailbox. She read the address to the dispatcher and made sure that the responders knew the exact place of the accident.

Dejaa remembered weening in and out from the daze.

She heard her daughter call for help and was a little bit conscious when help finally arrived. Thanks to her daughter, everyone that Dejaa needed at that time came in a timely manner. Besides her daughter, however, she was also thankful for something else.

“I was truly blessed in this situation to not only still have my daughter home, but thank God I had not made it behind the wheel of a car. And on top of that, my mom does live close, which is why I’ve always instructed her to contact my mother first,” she added, according to The Daily Mail.

Jordynn’s actions didn’t go unnoticed.

Through her heroic efforts, the local leaders found it fitting to acknowledge her courage and quick wit.

The Hanover County Board of Supervisors bestowed a 911 Life Saver Award to Jordynn and was recognized as an honorary Hanover communications officer.

Jordynn’s actions became viral after her mom uploaded them on TikTok. She hopes that with her experience, she can teach parents the importance of training their kids for emergency situations.
