Most middle school talent shows include shy kids shakily singing pop songs, or performing a home made dance routine. Parents always go to cheer on their own kids, but are usually underwhelmed by the talents of the other students.

No one can ever be as cute or special as your own kid though, right?

But this group of young boys stole the spotlight at their fifth grade talent show by performing a unique routine that’s well outside of the box.

Starting with their swimming caps and goggles a top their heads, and beach towels around their waists, the boys take to centre stage.

They prepare for their routine by throwing their towels to the audience, revealing swim shorts underneath, and securing their swim goggles.

Are they in the right place? The pool is in the building next to the gym, boys!

The crowd is cheering and hollering before the music has even started!

They take their positions behind a low hanging blue tarp, and the classical music tune starts.

While standing on solid ground, breathing fresh air, and in a school auditorium full of their peers, they begin what looks like a synchronized swimming routine.

Everyone in the auditorium is laughing and cheering on the “swim team”.

They start diving into the “pool” one by one, with their arms above their heads and throwing themselves to the side.

Hopefully there’s a mattress or something behind the tarp for them to fall into! Or maybe I’m just forgetting how resilient a kid’s body can be.

Even the performers are holding back laughter as the dive and jumps all over the stage, half-hidden behind a flimsy blue tarp that we’ve now all just come to accept as water.

They do some extra cool moves, diving across one another (and surely landing hard and fast on that floor, or hopefully, padded mattress!).

It’s absolutely hilarious when they all get down on the floor and stick their little legs up over the surface of the “water”, and start kicking and crossing their feet.

Just like a true synchronized swimming troop! Would it be a routine without some synchronized foot work?

Looking just as graceful as true swimmers (well, okay, half as graceful) they have the crowd roaring while they go along with their routine.

The hilarious twist to their performance is so unique it’s impossible not to love.

They must have been practicing for weeks to get this routine down, but at least they didn’t need a pool to practice!

They finish off their routine with a “wave” which could not be more perfect. These young kids certainly have a good sense of humor!

The video has been viewed more than 4 million times – that’s a lot of fame for some middle schoolers!

There was probably no more than a couple hundred people in the audience, and now their performance has been viewed all around the world!
