You know that old saying, “beggars can’t be choosers”? Well, apparently we’ve got it all wrong. There are some people out there who will take people’s kindness for granted. And then, to add insult to injury, they have the sheer audacity to demand more! These people have an unreal and comical sense of entitlement – they’re just begging to be taken down a peg (or two).
A subreddit titled “Choosing Beggars” has hundreds of these shameless exchanges with the Karens of the world, and we’ve collected the best. So sit back and enjoy the ride.
The “Most Mostest” Dilemma
I’d like to point out that this person obviously has no idea how a sales promotion works. Or how shipping works. Or how life in general works – even if her retail store is the “most mostest”. Also, her sister’s “expertise” seems to be as good as her sister’s.
10/10 Will Whine Again
Wow. Well, maybe next time Starbucks should get the microwave-ready and roll out that red carpet just in case Queen Karen stops by. Forget that it’s a health violation to reheat a random sandwich from another branch. Bet everyone is really sad to hear that she’ll never be stopping by again.
Passive-Aggressive Much?
This one is absolutely mindboggling. When the boss puts up a passive-aggressive wishlist that makes all his employees feel like he’s doing them a huge favor by letting them work there, of course, they’d only be more grateful. “Why sure boss, I don’t mind pulling an all-nighter on my son’s birthday… it’s okay, he’ll have more!”
Double Standards
The absolute audacity of this woman is unbelievable, but the irony here is pure gold. It didn’t take long before someone left a savage burn stating the obvious. If she’s too broke to pay for her own drink, then why is she going out in the first place?
“Your Hairdresser Doesn’t Wash Your Rear End”
I have personal experience with this one. Customers are always happy with the results, but their faces quickly drop when you give them the bill. This parlor was so tired of hearing “MY haircuts don’t cost that much” that they decided to post all the reasons why Fifi’s groom wasn’t exactly a walk in the park.
Doing It for the Art
Ah, this is something creatives encounter way too often. Artists are always expected to provide free work for the “exposure.” Well, the “exposure” won’t pay the rent. The retort here was well-deserved.
NEXT!
It’s one thing to ask for help, but then this woman had the gall to be aggressive and unnecessarily rude to everyone who tried to help her, including a taxi company called “Sober Cab.” The sense of entitlement was so strong with this one that I need to take a break, step away, and take a deep breath.
Next-Level Bridezilla
This bride had the cheek to ask each one of her guests to shell out $1,500 for the privilege of attending her wedding. And, when they declined her invites, she had a hissy fit and called the whole thing off. She then wrote a long-winded post about how selfish her friends were being after they refused to pay for her wedding. The nerve!
Trolling the Choosing Beggar
This choosing beggar wanted a drawing of herself from a professional artist. And, in true choosing beggar fashion, she also wanted it for free. When the artist didn’t reply, she still had the audacity to ask if it was done yet. The artist snapped. Revenge is sweet.
Complaints About Free Stuff
If you haven’t heard of a “Yelper,” they are people who write lots of bad reviews of establishments in the hopes that they can get free stuff as compensation. This BBQ joint wasn’t having it though and called the dirty Yelper out with an amusing sign – placed inside the establishment so that everyone could see it.
Entitled Mom
Of course, just the pleasure of spending time with this woman’s brats would be as good as payment. As a bonus, she even got free ice cream. Only, that’s not what this babysitter had agreed on at all. This exchange is so unreal that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
What’s Mine Isn’t Yours
Thankfully the OP posted an update on this and got justice: “I called campus Saturday night and they said they’d contact the girl and let me know. I never heard from them so I filed a report this morning and brought the police to her dorm, where they did manage to find them and return them.” Every time a choosing beggar gets owned, an angel gets its wings.
He’s a Keeper
The bare-faced cheek of this guy is absolutely infuriating. Imagine going on a date and then getting a payment request on Venmo demanding that you reimburse the guy because you didn’t “hook up”? In my opinion, OP dodged a bullet on this one. Good riddance.
Perfect Reply
Every once in a while, a business owner reads a ridiculous, and possibly detrimental, review from an entitled choosing beggar and decides to give everyone a bit more perspective. This person fully deserved the savage roasting they received, and it’s a pleasure to see them getting their comeuppance. Kudos to the mechanic!
Who Are You?
This is so audacious that it makes me cringe when I read it. This person felt so entitled that they watched Netflix on someone else’s account for years. And when the account got cut off, they had the cheek to ask the account holder to pay it! Love the random insult at the end, that’s really how you’ll get more people to do you favors.
Cheap and Entitled
This advertisement is absolutely hilarious and comically entitled. Yes, you read that right. So, the photographer must have eight years of experience, work for free, and bring their own food. Sounds like an awesome gig – I bet photographers were just clambering to get in on this one.
Too Good for Tesla
This choosing beggar put out a plea on Facebook asking to borrow a nice car for their wedding day. Fair enough, I know weddings are expensive enough without all the extra expenses. But this is where it goes off the rails. Someone offers their Tesla, and they have to be obnoxious and make fun of the car. Someone offers an M3… you get the idea.
I’m Sorry, What?
This resume had me taking a double-take. These days, getting a job is difficult enough for most people, but this resume really takes the cake. So, this job hunter can afford to be choosy – maybe not the worst trait in an employee… but then they rattle off a list of demands that include “can not work with Mayonnaise. It grosses me out.”
How Dare They!
Here’s yet another one-star review for a restaurant, and of course, it’s written by a choosing beggar. But anyone with any sense of logic will know what really happened here. Nobody could possibly make 63 footlong subs in less than an hour and a half! Then, she had the audacity to write that the employee seemed “annoyed” with her!
Who Do They Think They Are?
Now, this person obviously has no shame or any sense of self-awareness whatsoever. I don’t care if it’s a family member, why don’t they go and work in a retail store and get all the fabulous perks, like the staff discount. Oh, and the long hours and minimum wage, too.
Uber Entitlement
We’ve reached another hotly-contested kind of entitlement here: the military spouse kind. Reddit is filled to the brim with posts about military spouses who expect to freeload off the fact that their husband is serving their country. But, the thing is, most places DO offer discounts for military spouses. But no, they want everything for free!
Savage Comeback
So here’s that old chestnut again: creatives being expected to work for free or at a ridiculously discounted rate, drop all their paying clients, and get right on whatever snotnosed aspiring “influencer” wants. Well, this designer had a glorious comeback.
Cash or Treat
Since when did children ask for cash instead of candy on Halloween? But the real problem here is the parents for enabling this kind of behavior. Just because Kevin is “disappointed,” everyone must give him cash? That’s not how it works in the real world, and the sooner he learns it, the better.
Bartender Edition
I’m sure bartenders have heard every single line that a choosing beggar will try to get free drinks. But, joke’s on them, because bartenders have wised up to their “clever” lingo. This bar was so sick and tired that they made a sign about what they won’t tolerate.
Telling It Like It Is
Here’s another mechanic who refused to take this from a choosing beggar. Good on him. But is anyone inclined to actually take a review that says “Do not go there they don’t know what they are doing I would give them a minus 3” seriously anyway?
The Ol’ ‘Wrong Energy’ Refund
This Instagrammer had the gall to buy an expensive handcrafted knife from an artisan, and then claimed that it had the “wrong energy.” So, of course, they wanted a full refund. Only, the knife was perfectly good when they wanted to use it as a prop for their Insta photo. Unbelievable!
Free Pizza for Everyone!
As the jaded say, no good deed goes unpunished. And it’s always true when choosing beggars are involved. This pizza shop offered free pizza to the community children and the next thing they knew, they were being berated on social media for it. But, why didn’t they offer everyone free pizza, hmmmm?
Suing the Hand That Feeds You
This one is so unbelievable that it beggars belief. This woman seriously thought that she could take advantage of her kind neighbor AFTER he had been nice enough to look after her rugrats for her by suing him for something that isn’t even a thing. Incredible!
Seems Legit
This dude wanted this computer at a low price, but the deal soured when he found out that there was no graphics card. Fair enough. But then, he asks the seller to buy a graphics card for him, and then he’ll consider taking the deal. Again, that’s really not how it works!
Slavedriver Boss
So… this boss is actually complaining that his “good” employees are not available to work during their personal time? Isn’t that what personal time is? What an absolute cheek.
Unbelievably Ungrateful
So this kindhearted person was going about their day and decided to help the person in front of them by paying for their groceries. You’d think they’d at least say ‘thank you,’ but what did this choosing beggar do? They actually complained when the nice stranger wouldn’t let them add more items to their cart! For shame!
Help a “Fellow Mother”
It would be one thing if this mom was actually qualified for the job, but they are basically asking the OP to give them the job anyway. But it gets worse. This mom actually asked if the OP would be prepared to risk their job to lie for them, and then had the cheek to get snarky when they refused!
Not Allowed To Have a Life
So, let me get this straight. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around it. So this entitled Karen spotted her manicurist grocery shopping and then basically accused them of having a life outside of work? Good riddance, OP, and nice comeback!
Korean BBQ Bribery
This girl on Tinder had a serious hankering for Korean BBQ – understandable. But to demand that the random person you’re chatting to drops everything and takes you out to eat it right now is just insane. To top the audacity off, she ended the chat with a threat.
The Classic Lowball
Here’s a classic choosing beggar strategy – some people are really this shameless. The routine goes: a potential buyer shows interest in an item being sold, then makes a ridiculous demand. The seller tries to accommodate them. Then, to express their gratitude, they lowball them on the price. Nice.
Mom Living in La-La Land
This mom actually thought that she’d get paid a salary for looking after her own children. She even went as far as asking the school board where she should send her invoice – hilarious! Bet she thinks her children are a gift to society, too.
Cancel It
This mom’s sense of entitlement actually overrode her basic education. She requested that an eclipse be rescheduled because it clashed with the workweek. Okay Karen, I’ll get the manager to cancel a cosmic event just for you.
The Irony
Well this one is so ironic that the entire message the writer was trying to convey seemed to go over this big corporation’s heads. When you’ve written a book about unpaid labor and then HuffPost asks you to write about it for their publication for free, it must be like banging your head against a brick wall.
Bait and Switch
In what universe do you ask a photographer to photograph an event for free? Okay, granted, choosing beggars do it all the time. But this has an unexpected twist that’s just on a whole new level. You’d never imagine a photographer to pay the event organizer for the privilege of taking free photographs, would you?
When $20 Becomes an Issue
This exchange is one wild ride. Apparently, a coworker really got a bee in her bonnet about $20. Well, where everyone else comes from, this is just plain rude. I’d tell her exactly where she could put her $20.
An Actual Choosing Beggar
It’s one thing to ask for handouts and then be grateful for what you get, but this guy really has some nerve. According to his sign, anything under $20 is a “waste” of his time! I wonder if he’s had much success with this strategy.
Penny Pincher
This woman really thought that her cleaner wasn’t entitled to some water from her tap and now insists on a discount for next time. Well, I doubt there will be any “next time” with that attitude. I’ve never heard of anything so cheap in my life.
“Extra Fees”
Wow. This woman wants her date to take out a small loan just to date her. Have you ever heard of any woman demanding that her date buys a go box for her kid and pays for babysitting? This is dating, not a cable contract with “extra fees.”
That’s What You Get
This guy bought a black-market subscription for Disneyplus and then had the audacity to complain to the actual account owner when it stopped working. Of course, the person who sold him the details hightailed it as soon as they received the money, but how is that the OP’s fault?
Forever Ungrateful
This looks like a nice food parcel for Christmas – it includes potatoes, an A-grade turkey, stuffing, the works. But no, this ungrateful choosing beggar has the cheek to complain because there was no juice! For shame!
Request From a Pepper Thief
This guy has been stealing the OP’s peppers from their garden, which, in itself, is probably not that much of a deal to the OP. But then the thief had the audacity to demand that the OP grows some milder peppers because they were “too spicy”! Unbelievable.
No Good Deed…
This kindhearted person decided to reach out to a former classmate and offer them the use of their laptop. The OP was being very considerate to even think about the struggles their former classmate must be going through without a laptop at college. Well, the ungrateful person’s response made them wish they hadn’t even asked.
More Blackmail
This seems to be a classic threat from choosing beggars. They ask for free stuff, and then hope to guilt some poor soul into complying because their kid “will cry.” it’s a cheap move. And if your kids cry because they don’t have all the latest tech, they are probably spoiled brats, just like their parents.
Babysitter Bingo
It’s a well-known fact that babysitters often have to pass a round of “babysitter bingo” before they get a gig. But choosing beggars go in knowing the costs but will demand that the babysitter drops everything to help them. Then, as the cherry on top, they try to lowball them on the asking price.
Dinner and a Rejection
This girl really went out on a limb by letting the guy she likes know how she feels. She probably felt totally worthless when he unkindly rejected her because she’s “a nurse”. But she shouldn’t feel too bad, he still wants her to take him out for dinner. As friends. Wow.
Never Give Up
The nerve of this guy is incredible. Imagine asking all your friends to hand you cash so you can have nicer things just for the fun of it. And then he has the cheek to say that anyone who didn’t get him a Christmas present owes him double. I’d block him forever and wish him a nice life.
Complaining About Free WiFi
To be fair, this is probably all the restaurant staff’s fault. What were they thinking, letting this freeloader use their free WiFi for months without ordering a thing? It must be their fault that they wouldn’t tolerate it when the guy got lunch from somewhere else and continued to use their WiFi, too. Unbelievable!
Turning the Tables
This choosing beggar decided to use a common cheapskate strategy on a poor student who was trying to make ends meet by dogsitting on the side. Well, this OP wasn’t having any of it. She turned the tables on the Karen in a spectacular way.
If You Can’t Afford It… Don’t Buy It
This OP was trying to sell a stereo system for some extra cash when they got blindsided by this audacious message. So, the logic here is that the buyer gets the item for free if they have to spend gas money to get it? Please. Has this strategy ever worked?
“So Unfair!”
This small business was trying to do something nice for the kids in the neighborhood by offering free donuts on an ongoing basis to kids whose name started with a particular letter of the alphabet, in alphabetical order. But, of course, this wasn’t good enough for this entitled mom, who wanted free donuts for all her kids!
Reverse Negotiation
We’ve got another cheapskate here. But this choosing beggar had the gall to try to lower the offer every time the OP protested. That’s really not how negotiation works – unless you live in la-la land.
I hope you got as many laughs out of these choosing beggars’ sense of entitlement and self-importance as I did. I’m glad to see that some businesses and freelancers are standing up to these opportunists, and hopefully, they will eventually get the message. These people seem to have forgotten that there is just one important rule in life, and that’s to always be kind.
