We tend to think of our teachers as, well — just teachers. We don’t give much thought to their home or family lives, even if we know they have them. Sure, we’ve become old enough to know they don’t live at the school, the way we thought they did when we were kids! But it’s still hard to think of them as people outside the context where we see them every day — the classroom.
But teachers definitely have lives beyond the confines of the school and guess what, they have plenty of thoughts about their students. They get tired of grading papers. They worry about their students’ home lives. And yes, they enjoy trolling you.
Can you blame them? The days when you think the lecture is boring and you’re watching the clock, they’re probably doing the same thing! They’re just older and have to be professional. But that doesn’t mean they don’t occasionally pull off a master trolling job.
They might play a role in our lives for only a short time, but that doesn’t mean we won’t remember them. Maybe because they inspired us to follow our dreams or perhaps because they knew exactly how to troll us.
1. When this teacher gave a colorful answer
Not everyone is a gifted writer and that’s okay to a point. But our poor teachers have to read a lot of really bad essays. No wonder they lash out at times.
2. When this teacher took petty revenge
Can you imagine going through your day feeling absolutely terrified because you failed an assignment and had to see the teacher after school?

Considering how the average student feels during an exam, I’d be surprised if no one broke down in tears over this. Talk about an emotional crisis!
7. When this teacher told everyone how they really felt
This professor clearly has no time for mincing words when it comes to how they feel about their students. With that aside, I think we should all start using “Klingons” as an insult.
8. When this teacher was happy to provide a pen
It’s a common pet peeve of teachers when their students aren’t prepared for class. However, this teacher was happy to lend a hand by giving the student a giant feather quill.

Many schools require teachers to pay for classroom supplies out of their own pocket. So, it’s no wonder they get annoyed when their things go missing.

As a teacher, you’re in a position of authority. That means you might have nasty things said about you. You can either be upset about it or do what this teacher did and roll with the punches.
12. When this teacher wanted to make everyone uncomfortable
There’s an old joke that when pyromaniacs need an excuse to set things on fire, they become chemists. Just judging by this teacher and his excited expression, I’d say that’s pretty accurate.
13. When this teacher screwed with a tired student
High school can be a really stressful time so it’s no wonder that students tend to fall asleep in class. This teacher decided to stop everything to play a prank on a poor guy who just needed a bit of shut-eye.

This is extra all on its own, but it also took an enormous amount of planning and execution. Where did he get a coffin? How did he transport it? There are so many questions.

I’ve got to say, that’s a heck of a lot of burns. But I’m especially curious about the near-death experiences. One thing’s for sure: this teacher has a strange sense of humor.

One poor student asked his teacher for a recommendation, presumably so that he could get into a special program, university, or job. The teacher responded with withering honesty.
24. When this teacher offered a crash course in email etiquette
Take note kids and don’t get overly casual with your professors when corresponding via email. A “Dear Professor So-and-So” might be a better choice than “Yo Do.”
25. When this teacher made a custom graphic for the course site
We’ve all been there, thinking we have plenty of time to complete an assignment only to realize the due date is bearing down on us. This teacher had an interesting way of reminding students.

Apparently, this teacher had had enough of students trying to check the time to find out when class would be over. They decided there would be no more of that by adding a dire warning.
29. When this teacher modeled nihilism for their students
Most of our parents told us to shoot for the stars and dream big when we were kids. This teacher might’ve been in the public education system for just a little too long or they just have a sick sense of humor.
30. When this teacher thought he was just so funny
You have to think a joke is really funny to be this committed to it. Can I hazard a guess that this teacher is also a master of dad jokes?

On average, Rochester, New York has the heaviest annual snowfall of anywhere in the contiguous United States. This teacher was pretty tired of experiencing it.

This student tried their best to charm the teacher into an A with a funny note on their exam. But they weren’t falling for it and responded with a game of their own.
33. When this teacher showed they kept up with the times
This teacher must’ve been fed up with students forgetting to do their online quizzes so they came up with this…interesting…solution. How many students opened the email purely out of confusion?
34. When this teacher encouraged camaraderie among their students
There’s nothing like a teacher who enjoys putting weird questions on a test. This one might just win the prize for weirdness, though. No thanks, don’t really want to have a moment with anyone.
35. When this teacher expressed his annoyance
This teacher has some VERY SPECIFIC bones to pick with the students in their class. They were even willing to put them as answers on the exam.

This teacher also had fun with multiple-choice, even tossing the students an easy answer to this question. Unless, of course, the answers are love and candy.
38. When this professor wasn’t cool with phones in class
For a professor that doesn’t want phones out while he’s lecturing, Professor Donaldson is surprisingly tech-savvy. He knows how to air-drop memes just to make students pay attention.
39. When this professor had even more fun with multiple-choice
In case you’re not up to speed, the answer that doesn’t belong is “Migos.” That’s because Migos is a rap group and not a part of rhetoric.
40. When this teacher demonstrated the importance of hydration
Man, some teachers are just brutal! This one made a rather aggressive label on his water bottle. Hopefully, those aren’t real tears, as that would be saltwater.

Consider it as a lesson, kids: don’t take 8:00 a.m. classes. You’ll be exhausted and barely able to concentrate…and your professors will send you emails like this.
43. When this professor had a “dance for tardiness” policy
Some professors dock your grade if you show up late to class, but this one had a much funnier solution. The offending student was required to perform a dance before being forgiven.

46. When this teacher channeled some Liam Neeson
That’s a heck of a long speech just to tell your students to study. Okay, dude, we get it — no need to act out the whole movie!
47. When this teacher had an interesting solution
What would we do without teachers and their oh-so-creative solutions to, well…everything? Honestly, I’m not so sure this isn’t twice as nerve-wracking as seeing his expressions.
