Shopping online can have its advantages. It can be helpful to get up and take care of a shopping list on sleepless nights, or quickly shop for a needed item without having to get dressed. Currently with social distancing restrictions, shopping online has the added benefit of purchasing an item you can’t get due to retail shops being closed.
In contrast to the many positive points of purchasing online, there are annoying disadvantages too. Often, the website description or measurements do not match reality. Check out these 50 slides to see how anticipating the arrival of an online purchase can be met with huge disappointment or rolling-on-the-floor humor.
1.) Funky Christmas Sweater Gone Wrong
An item like this is purchased specifically to be an ugly Christmas sweater. However, this looks like it was sewn for one of Santa’s elves. Hysterical placement for the pockets!
2.) Quiet Time
All this man wanted was a simple pup tent for a few quiet nights in the outdoors. Looks like his “pup tent” ended up being built for a chihuahua. Must be uncomfortable!
3.) Forehead Masks
When you buy a face mask, you expect it will cover your face, not just your forehead. Seriously, what size face would this fit? Maybe they were designed by a tribe of Pygmies in the Congo rainforest. Have to wonder about the origins of this product.
4.) Huge Disappointment
The dress on the left is stunning. Yet, when it arrived, it was far less than hoped for. Hopefully, she had something else in her closet to wear!
5.) Dinosaurs and Dreams
Purchasing this cute dinosaur pillowcase for her child, a mother was surprised that the pillowcase not only came with the image of the dinosaur, but also the image of a little boy. How strange!
6.) Short on Fabric
It looks like an adorable sundress, yet when it arrived, it really was more of a top. What happened to the bottom of the dress? Apparently, the seamstress needed the fabric for another project!
7.) A Picture Is Not Worth a Thousand Words
At least not in this case. A thousand words probably would have described this chair more appropriately as the size for a child’s doll house.
8.) Look Closely
At first glance, you may think “oh… just a set of earplugs”. At second glance, you may think “wait… what’s wrong with this picture?” Doesn’t it make you wonder what the objective was when this were manufactured?
9.) Honey, I Shrunk the TV Stand.
Shopping online for a TV stand, evidently the description forgot to mention this preferred stand was actually for a dollhouse. Imagine the surprise when it was delivered. It was expected to be a full-size stand, but it shrunk! Hopefully, the cost of the item was not full-size.
10.) Fifty Shades of Grey/Gray
Probably the most humorous and clever, there was a total communication breakdown when purchasing “50 Shades of Grey”. Obviously, this shopper was looking for more than color samples. Perhaps, she misspelled the title and used the American “gray” instead of the English “grey”. That would confuse anyone, right?
11.) Decked Out
Ordering deckchairs can take time and consideration. Once you finally find what you want, the anticipated arrival will hopefully be what is expected. Not so, in this case.
12.) The Ol’ Switcharoo
What is purchased as a fun costume may not have quite the same effect when the item is switched to something completely different. Unfortunately, this young person may not be quite the hit of the party that he hoped for. Though, he will be memorable.
13.) A Stunning Surprise
This elegant gown would be stunning for the prom. Or, so thought this teenager preparing for a special evening. What a disappointment when it arrived. Not quite what she had hoped for.
14.) Serious House Cleaning
She simply wanted a dustpan to clean up her living space, but what arrived was something that looked more suited for horse stables. Where would you get a broom big enough to go with this?
15.) Pant Ruffles
The newest rage, everyone needs at least one set of ruffles for your favorite pair of jeans… no one ever said! Actually, what was purchased was a cute bouncy skirt. What was received was something that barely fit over the thigh. Totally a new look, but probably won’t catch on.
16.) A Cozy Family Blanket
Or not. Would you believe a box of cozy yarn? That’s what this shopper received. Now, he’s signed up for crochet classes.
17.) Let It Go
Sometimes, you just have to release frustration, and what better way than your very own punching bag? This online shopper thought that sounded like a good idea, but the first punch was all he got out of this bag. Apparently, letting all the stress go on a bag made in China only results in more stress.
18.) Two Left Feet
You may know someone who dances as if they have two left feet. Though, you probably don’t expect to see a pair of shoes to go with them. That’s the case here, as this shopper was quite puzzled to receive her new purchase of two left shoes. This will make for some interesting dance steps.
19.) Weighing Less
Nothing in the online ad described this as being for a doll house. The hint may have been the bargain price. Does a little scale help achieve a little waistline and less weight?
20.) A Total Joke
Adorable tennis shoes in the picture, but when they arrive you can imagine the shopper’s disbelief. Is this someone’s idea of humor? These are definitely funny to look at.
21.) Underwear – Under There
Placing an order for shoes on Ebay, this shopper got more than he bargained for. The sender must have been short of tissue paper, or maybe he was just cleaning out his underwear drawer. Let’s hope they had been washed!
22.) The Lion King
23.) Get What You Pay For
The expression, “you get what you pay for” is a good reminder that what sounds like a smoking deal is often only a smoke screen for the actual product you will receive. This was the $17 swing chair from Amazon. Another choice was for $22. Are you wondering if it would have been a bit larger?
24.) Not Liking the Knockoff
This young woman is not pleased. The exquisite gown she hoped for was not what she’s wearing. Probably the ugliest part are the apparent bloomers she’s wearing under the netting. Definitely a difference between a designer gown and ugly knockoff.
25.) With This Ring I Thee Wed
Maybe no wedding, after all. The picture hints at a matching set of wedding bands, but when reality is delivered at the doorstep, these silver rings look more like hardware that’s purchased at Home Depot. Not a good way to start “happily ever after”.
26.) And She Wore…
No. Hopefully, not with that bodice. Another example of a designer dress purchase gone wrong. Unfortunately, these types of purchasing problems are difficult to return. Especially, if the item is being returned to somewhere oversees. Hopefully, this young lady gave herself enough time to get a replacement.
27.) Snuggly Panda
Isn’t this adorable for a child? You would think so, until it arrives. What was expected to be a great snuggle cushion for their child, turned out to only be a hand-held toy. Nothing snuggly about it.
28.) A Different Version of iPad
Thinking they were getting a great deal on an iPad, this man was stunned when he opened what looked like a normal iPad box. Drumroll please… The great unboxing absurdly revealed a child’s device.
29.) Potato Sacks as a Fashion Trend
Perhaps a translation error? Who knows! Somehow the dress design on the left did not translate properly to the potato sack on the right. They did get the colors similar, however. Though, they shouldn’t get any credit for this amazing rip-off.
30.) Pretty Pillow
This looks like a beautiful knitted throw pillow, but instead, is a photo of knitted yarn printed on the pillow fabric. Tricky for the eyes to recognize this without an accurate description.
31.) Mr. Potato Head
He carefully chose his best picture for the bed pillow he was giving his girlfriend as a gift. He hoped it would remind her of his love each night when she went to bed. Instead, it gave her nightmares of Mr. Potato Head. Understandable!
32.) Sometimes Size Matters
Quite a disappointment for the mother who bought this playpen for her child. A great size for a doll, but not for this little guy. He looks perplexed, as if he’s thinking… “Mom…What were you thinking?!”
33.) Mirror… Mirror on the Wall
No matter the angle in the mirror, the first photo doesn’t look anything like what was purchased in the second photo. Maybe the seller didn’t think the buyer would notice.
34.) Different Look for the Breakroom
This man’s boss purchased new chairs for the breakroom. Imagine his surprise when they were delivered. Perhaps, this is an employer’s way of being sure his employees don’t linger too long at break. Backsides would be hurting in five minutes or less.
35.) Two Shirts from Old Navy = 40 Pounds of Security Tags
How does ordering two shirts from Old Navy equal 40 pounds of security tags? Well, at least this shipment included a coupon for $60 – obviously a bargain. Or, maybe not.
36.) No More China
Purchasing the dress on the left, turned into the green nightmare on the right. Not only was the fit all wrong, including uneven sleeve lengths, but they also missed the color! This young woman vows to never again buy “Made in China”.
37.) Hopeless for Sure
Buying a necklace that says “Hopeless” does not present an optimistic view of the world to begin with. However, when the necklace arrived without the “p” and instead spelled “Hoeless”, “hopefully” this buyer’s mood changed to one of humor.
38.) That’s Not a Knife
If you were a fan of Crocodile Dundee movies, you’ll remember his famous line, “That’s not a knife…” Same can be said for this purchase. Though this knife would not scare off hoodlums, it would work for Barbie.
39.) Knit Kit
Thinking of buying a knitted throw? Not so fast. Evidently, ordering this blanket means you will have to knit it yourself. This young lady’s disgusted expression seems to say, “Aw, Mom! Knitting was for Grandma!”
40.) A 3-Foot Kiddie Pool
A 3-foot kiddie pool was ordered online for summer splashing, and literally that’s what they got. Not a 3-foot measurement in depth or even width, but a plastic pool big enough for THREE FEET. Technically, this online item was described correctly. Ready to jump in?
41.) Traveling with Aladdin
Perhaps, this embroidered rug would work for Disney’s Aladdin, but it was not what this shopper was expecting. Yes, it has a pretty blue pattern, but what can he do with it? Maybe it will work as a coaster for a water glass. He looks totally heartbroken.
42.) Order at Your Own Risk
No matter how pretty the picture, what you get in the mail may be entirely different from what you thought you ordered. This is especially heartbreaking for someone hoping for a glamorous prom gown. The lesson is if you absolutely, positively must have a beautiful dress for a special event, buy from a reputable dealer, and allow yourself enough time to find an alternative if necessary.
43.) These Boots Are Made for Walkin’
Maybe not made for feet walking, but perhaps the fingers could do the walking. Planning for a fun Halloween costume, this shopper just needed the addition of combat boots. Look what she got! They probably would work for a GI Joe doll, but not for a human taller than 8 inches.
44.) Mommy’s Angel or Satan’s Child?
The answer may depend on the day. Ordering a cute hat for her toddler, this mother got a surprise in the mail. The horns were the funniest part. Evidently, it was sewn by another mother, who was having a bad day with her own child. Gotta love it!
45.) Definitely Less Than Flattering
This shopper did not get the look she was hoping for. Even if she were 12 inches shorter, the construction of this garment does not reflect the online picture. Hopefully, she got her money back!
46.) Error in Judgement
George simply wanted a new pair of jeans with a 32-inch inseam. It looks like he got a 50-inch inseam jean. You can see how he compares his old jeans to his new purchase in the left picture. The manufacturer made a definite error when measuring these pant legs, but they keep his feet warm!
47.) Not Even Close
Don’t you love how these pants drape and flow with the model’s movements? Unfortunately, the “look” isn’t even close to reality. Obviously this woman was not sure what to do with her purchase.
48.) Floral Derangement Syndrome
When you decide to send a floral arrangement to someone you care about, you probably trust that it will look like the picture when it arrives. At least, this is what Colleen expected. She saw this adorable floral arrangement online, which she thought would be perfect. The actual delivery made her question the florist’s derangement for arrangements.
49.) Not Shabby Chic
Another disappointed online shopper. You would think adding lace to jeans would be easy enough, but evidently not so. The quality of lace and sewing technique is much less than the online image shows. Instead of lace being sewn as an insert, it looks like it was pasted on! A shabby imitation.
50.) Belly Balloons
The expected result for these party balloons didn’t even come close. They could be quite hysterical and become the talk of the party with their odd shape, but probably was a huge disappointment for the party planner.
These photos may leave you scratching your head in wonder, but they are good for laughs. With odd sizes, strange designs, totally wrong items, there’s little wonder why many shy away from buying online. If you are one who likes to buy on the web, remember that sellers often pay for positive reviews, so purchase at your own risk. If you make a mistake, be sure to keep your sense of humor, and consider using the item as a great “gag” gift for a friend.
