Is Halloween one of your favorite holidays? Do you put effort and thought into your costume? Do you plan everything out to the last detail? You might have very little in common with the following people.

Here are 50 Halloween costume fails, many of which probably could have been prevented by a friend telling them to stop putting on the costume before it was too late.

#1 Harry Potter?

Harry Potter costumes can be simple or elaborate. The first key is the glasses. The second is not drawing them on with a marker.

#2 Homer Simpson on a bad day

He tried to dress up as Homer. He ended up looking like Homer after the nuclear plant finally had a meltdown. Getting the face paint right is important.

#3 Those details

He wouldn’t be the first person to use toilet paper to make a mummy costume. However, most people toss the empty roll when they’re done.

#4 Another disappointing childhood

This kid’s costume was just a paper bag. That’s all, nothing more. No one ever figured out what she was supposed to be. Even she didn’t know.

#5 Wolverine fail

He wanted to be Wolverine. We get that. But why is the costume shaped like a banana?

#6 Not very Smurfy

When we think of a Smurf, we think of a happy little blue creature that dances and sings. This nightmare zombie version is not even in the realm of possibilities.

#7 Hair and makeup!

Something failed in the hair and makeup department. This is not how face paint is supposed to work. Don’t even get us started on the costume itself.

#8 Does not compute

R2D2 can be a great costume. Just make sure to get it in the right size, unlike this person.

#9 Too far

Everyone loves a little blood and gore with their Halloween. However, too much realism is just too much. When people are calling an ambulance, you’ve gone too far.

The Carrie costume and makeup aren’t bad. However, she got in a car wreck while dressed like this and had to explain to all the first responders that she wasn’t actually that hurt. It’s just one of the unspoken risks of Halloween.
