There is no animal that loves napping more than dogs. Some of them literally sleep all day, and we have to say, they look pretty goofy doing it too. It’s amazing the positions that some of the pups out there find comfortable, but who are we to judge? Just because it looks awkward doesn’t mean it is.

When you’re a dog, a bed can be found anywhere — in the corner of a home, on some human’s lap, even underneath a table. If you are tired after a long day of playing fetch, you simply lay down, close your eyes, and pass out. The actual location is an afterthought.

It’s a behavior that makes for some pretty hilarious photos though. We’ve gathered 50 of our favorite pictures of dogs sleeping in awkward sleeping positions to share with you today. We hope you enjoy!

1. Happily Asleep

This tiny pup is so cozy laying on her back in between Mom’s legs. She has the cutest little smile on her face and looks so happy. We imagine that she must be dreaming about eating steaks or chasing chipmunks.

2. Toned Legs

There’s nothing like getting a nice isometric leg workout in while you’re taking a nap. That’s what this dog is doing. Even while sound asleep, he’s still working on getting toned.

3. Warming Up

Everyone knows how hard it can be to sleep when it’s cold out, even puppies. This one loves the heater its owner set up so much that it stretches its palms out through the cage to keep them warm while dozing off.

4. Shoe Pillow

“This looks like a good place to take a nap,” the puppy thought as it placed its head face down into the sneaker. It is the perfect pillow for the little guy. We just hope that the sneaker was washed recently!

5. Defying Gravity

This gravity-defying pooch doesn’t know which way is up and which is down. You could flip the photo sideways and it would look like the dog is standing up. It’s a pretty goofy way to sleep.

6. T-Rex Position?

We’re not sure what kind of sleeping position this is, but the dog certainly looks relaxed. It’s got its bent paws up in the air like a dog version of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. It might have a distant dinosaur ancestor somewhere down the line.

7. Upside-Down Dog

There is no way sleeping like this can be comfortable. So much blood has got to be rushing to the dog’s head right now! Somehow though, it is totally passed out. We just hope it’s not too dizzy when it wakes up.

8. Eat, Sleep, Repeat

The puppy’s mom’s dinner bowl is the perfect size for the infant to curl up and catch some z’s. And if it gets hungry, it doesn’t have to go very far. It can just take a bite of food and then go right back to sleep.

9. Half On, Half Off

The owner told the dog that it wasn’t allowed to sleep up on the couch anymore. The dog found a creative solution. Technically, it’s not “up” on the couch anymore, but simply resting against it.

10. Enjoying The Weather

It’s a beautiful day out. It’s something that this chubby dog always puts to good use. It loves posting up on the wooden patio chair out back to soak up the sunlight.

11. Park Life

Best friends think alike. The dog saw its owner splayed out on the bench in the park and couldn’t resist joining in on the fun. The owner has his hat on to shade him from the sun and the dog is rocking a cool pair of sunglasses.

12. Passed Out

These two really know how to unwind after a long day of playing frisbee. Both of them are stretched out in the yard, completely exhausted. When you’re a dog, you can sleep anywhere you want and no one will judge you.

13. Road Trip

The owner and the dog took an exciting day trip to the dog park and the excursion exceeded all expectations. It was a day filled with adrenaline. As soon as the dog got back in the car for the trip home, it instantly fell asleep.

14. Dreaming Of Biscuits

You can tell the dog is dreaming of something delicious by the way his tongue is hanging out. There is nothing that makes a dog’s mouth water more than dog biscuits. He is getting drool everywhere.

15. Giraffe Neck

That is one long neck! The dog is like a canine version of a giraffe. It doesn’t matter how far away the pillow is, this pooch will be able to reach it.

16. Coffee Please

We completely understand what this dog is feeling. We look something like that as well before we’ve had our cup of coffee in the morning. In fact, we’re going to go get another cup right now.

17. Contortionist

This tired pup has literally folded itself up into a pretzel. It’s definitely a peculiar way of sleeping, but if it works, it works. All those dog yoga classes are obviously paying off.

18. Nothing On TV

The dog hopped up onto the couch hoping to catch some quality daytime television. However, the boring shows soon put the pup into a deep sleep. She’s just not a big soap opera and infomercial fan.

19. Sleeping At The Wheel

The dog decided to take the off-road utility vehicle out for a spin with its owner. However, all the hard work out in the bush cutting down trees wore the dog out. It passed out on top of the steering wheel.

20. Waiting On Dinner

The dog has its own little dinner table set up in front of its favorite leather recliner. However, the owner is taking way too long to serve up the nightly dish of dog food. The dog fell asleep while it was waiting.

21. Dog Pile

These dog friends love snuggling up with each other. It’s the best way to sleep. Not only is it super warm, but it’s also incredibly comfortable. Dogs make for the best pillows.

22. Wrinkly And Adorable

The pup is so wrinkly that you can’t even see its face while it is sleeping. It basically just melts right into the bed. It is pretty adorable to witness.

23. Extreme Flexibility

Those legs are bending in a direction that they are not supposed to go. It is completely unnatural. However, it’s not the dog’s fault, it is because of the cushion. It is way too small for the couch.

24. Hiding In The Carryon

The owner was packing up for a flight to Boston. However, the dog couldn’t bear the thought of being left behind. It jumped into the suitcase and made itself nice and comfortable on the pile of clothes.

25. Elasticity

Once a spine gets twisted like that, there is no going back to how things were before. The dog is basically broken now. Putting the pup back together again is not going to be easy.

26. Tongue Out

Eyes closed, tongue out. That’s how this pup rolls. We just hope it doesn’t get startled by a loud noise or anything. If it accidentally bites down, it is going to be in for a rude awakening.

27. Chillin’

We’ve never seen a dog so chilled out before. It has got its legs up in the air without a care in the world. It feels perfectly at home snuggled up next to its loving humans.

28. Gym Time

Working out or hardly working? That is the question. We don’t blame the pup though. This is how a lot of gym-goers feel after running on the treadmill after a long hiatus.

29. Weird And Wonderful

There’s nothing wrong with being different. In fact, it’s something to be celebrated. While it’s definitely one of the weirdest sleeping positions we’ve seen, as long as the dog is fine with it, we’re fine with it.

30. Dog Loaf

Is that a dog or a loaf of bread? From this angle, it’s hard to tell. The owner calls it the “Corgi flying squirrel position”, but to us, it looks more like good old fashioned dog loaf.

31. Taking Up Space

It’s like the dog’s goal was to choose the most inconvenient place possible to take his nap. He chose the landing at the bottom of the stairwell, assuring that anyone who passes by has to be extra careful not to step on him.

32. Basket Vs. Floor

Come on, pup. You have to choose one or the other. Either sleep in the basket or sleep on the floor. When you try and do both at the same time, you end up just causing yourself unnecessary neck pain.

33. Reflections

Those big dog teeth reflecting off the wall of the car are so goofy looking. It’s an absolutely hilarious image. Also, in case you are wondering, the type of car is a Volkswagon Beetle. The panels inside of Beetles are painted the same as the outside.

34. Too Big

He’s too large to curl up in the corner of the couch like most dogs do. Luckily, though, there is a stool conveniently placed at the edge for him to rest his head on. It’s a reach, but he’s tall enough to bridge the gap.

35. Downward Dog

Here we have another pup that has been taking yoga lessons. He’s doing a perfect downward-facing dog position. It’s in his nature. After all, he is a dog.

36. Cuddle Buddies

The little Italian greyhound couldn’t be happier. It loves cuddling with its owner. Naptime is both of their favorite time of the day and they always look forward to it.

37. Dog Rug

She is laid out on the ground just like a beautiful fluffy rug. Although, this rug is not for stepping on. It is simply for loving and admiring. It adds an amazing aesthetic to the room.

38. Tough Life

Being a dog is not easy. Between watching birds flying by the window all day and going on walks with the humans, there is always something to do. It leaves the pups super exhausted at the end of the day.

39. Zombie Dog

It’s a doggie version of The Walking Dead. According to the owner, the dog fell asleep while they were giving them a treat. It froze in standing position, eyes closed but still alive.

40. Sleeping Selfie

As soon as the owner noticed the dog was sleeping, she jumped on the opportunity to take a picture of them together. The result is this hilarious selfie. The dog was completely unresponsive throughout the whole photoshoot.

41. Scrunched Up

This cute little Frenchie squeezed itself into the corner of the room up against the wall to take its nap. It could have chosen anywhere else in the house to sleep but this is where it ended up.

42. Dog Bridge

It’s so tired that it will do anything to get some rest, including stretching across two couches, forming a bridge shape. It’s amazing the positions in which we are able to fall asleep when we are really exhausted.

43. Sleeping Under Chairs

It’s this pup’s favorite place to catch some z’s. The chair legs provide protection from all those who would wish to disturb his peaceful slumber. It’s a solution that is clearly very effective.

44. Puppy Dreams

This beautiful dog is all about sleeping on her back, just like an itty bitty baby. It reminds her of those times when she was a puppy and her owner used to cradle her in her arms, keeping her warming and cozy.

45. Headless Pup

We see a lot of different dog parts in this picture, but where is the head? That is the real question. It must be buried somewhere underneath all those curled up legs, but it’s hard to tell.

46. Posing

It’s the perfect sleeping pose for an aspiring dog model. One arm is outstretched while the other is tucked neatly into the body. We love her owner’s home too. It’s very well designed.

47. Playing Tetris

This half border collie half Australian shepherd is all about playing arcade games. His new favorite game is Tetris. He bends himself into weird block shapes and fits himself wherever he can.

48. Puddle Of Dog

It’s like this dog has no bones. The pup is both squishy and adorable. It melts right into whatever corner it plops down in, turning itself into one giant puddle of dog.

49. Resting The Chompers

We’ve all heard of people grinding their teeth while they sleep. However, this dog takes it to a whole new level. It actually bites down on the wooden chair while it takes a nap. It helps keep those canines extra razor-sharp.

50. Sleeping Hobby

Meet Ralph the puppy. Ralph loves to nap. No one loves napping more than Ralph. It is his favorite hobby and he partakes in it any chance that he gets.
