If you spend any time on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, then you’ve seen probably hundreds of jokes, memes, and other postings about the effects of the Coronavirus on people stuck at home. While some individuals have adapted quite well to their new environment others are going stir crazy.
Posters are sharing all kinds of recommendations on how to avoid becoming bored. Everyone has already experienced some degree of cabin fever. That even includes parents trying to homeschool their kids. While most people are taking this pandemic seriously, meaning they’re following the rules of staying at home, they’re also desperately trying to find ways to fight off boredom.
The good news — we can share 50 way to entertain yourselves right here, right now. And a lot of them are downright funny.
1. An interesting strategy
This man feels so socially distanced from humans he taught his cat how to play board games. But I’d be careful. That furry little guy looks a little sneaky to me.
While we’re not sure there’s a market for this, you have to admit that’s some pretty awesome origami. Who knows, maybe he found his true calling.
For all the self-quarantined ladies out there. Why not take this time to refine your skills for applying makeup as this woman did? It looks like she nailed it…NOT.
Whether a novice in the kitchen or someone who loves to bake often, people in self-quarantine are trying new recipes. We have to admit, this banana bread looks yummy.
Or you could do what this guy did, put on a fashion show minus the clothes. Oh, and for a more dramatic effect, pretend like you’re flashing a bunch of high-profile people.
This person has way too much downtime. Hopefully, this pandemic will end quickly. On the other hand, they might’ve discovered a new talent. If you have an Etch A Sketch lying around, see what you can come up with.
What a great way to tell people to stay away. But you could also use something like this while on vacation. When you want some alone time in your hotel room, just hang it on the outside door knob…you can bet no one’s going to enter.
8. Watch Spongebob reruns
You have to admit that in a somewhat sick and twisted way, Spongebob Squarepants and his gang are super funny. One person found watching the cartoon a great way to pass time. If you’ve never seen the series, you’re missing out.
9. Spend time with the pup
Especially for the millions of people who aren’t usually home during the day, dogs may be just as confused as they are. If you have a pup, give him a little extra love…it’ll be good for both of you.
We’re not quite sure what this is supposed to be, perhaps a miniature broom? But what we do know is this person made it out of individual straws of hay. The point is, find things you have around the house to make something crafty.
Okay, so you don’t get to hang out with your friends right now but that doesn’t mean you can’t still stay connected. With Skype, Facetime, Google Duo, and other video chat options, you can keep in touch with people like this girl.
By this point, some people feel like they’re losing their minds. Instead of being stressed, be silly…like this person who decided to turn themselves into an…Amazon monster?
This person had a great idea of crossing off each self-quarantined day. If you adopt this idea, also write down at least one thing you accomplished. After the pandemic passes, you’ll be able to look back and feel proud that you didn’t let the time go to waste.
14. Learn to play solitaire
One individual decided to learn how to play solitaire. Now, if you think that sounds boring, keep in mind there are more than 1,000 different versions of this card game.

17. Take the dog on daily walks
Along with cuddling, there’s another way people are spending quality time with their dog…going on daily walks. Just choose somewhere away from crowds and other pets. Even if you live in the city, you could do this by driving to the countryside.
If you do an online search for hairstyles, you’ll have no problem finding all kinds of unique creations. Of course, if you have a boyfriend or husband with long hair, encourage them to get in on the fun as this guy did.
We’re not talking about the dangerous ones like eating laundry soap or kicking someone’s feet out from under them but one that’s keeping bored people busy and in shape. The Megan Thee Stallion “Savage Challenge” has become popular and since it involves doing a choreographed dance, it’s fun.
20. Teach cats how to do tricks
Considering cats are highly independent, meaning they’ll pay attention but only when they want to, this man thought it was a great way to entertain himself while quarantined. It’s not that kitties aren’t smart but by the time they learn what you’re trying to teach them, there’s a good chance the pandemic will be over.
That includes all kinds of animals. People stuck at home are even bathing their birds and reptiles. Hey, they need to be clean too.
22. Watch old black and white movies
Compared to today’s movies, those made during the 1940s through the 1960s are incredibly different. Individuals who’ve never seen an old black and white film, as well as diehard fans, are choosing these over the newer movies. If you want to join in and you love a good mystery, you might start with something like “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane” or “Gaslight.”
…with what else? Toilet paper. Although people are taking the pandemic seriously, they’re also looking for ways to eliminate their boredom. One option is by poking fun at the current TP shortage.
Although parents are doing their best to keep their kids up to date on homework assignments, they have to take a break now and then. One option that many families like involves making a movie. Simply come up with a script, cast all the characters, and then start filming.
You might think taking photos of the sky sounds strange and boring but you’d be surprised at how much things change, not just daily, but hourly. Some people have started capturing images, which they then share online.
Thank goodness there’s still cable television and Netflix. People who’ve always wanted to watch an entire series but couldn’t find the time are rejoicing. Whether The Golden Girls, Lost, or Jurassic Park, you can watch one or two shows per day or have a movie fest where you stay on the couch until you’ve seen them all. We suggest the first option.
This guy decided not to let the pandemic affect his job. So, he uploaded a TikTok video of him performing his normal duties, which apparently consist of sitting on a miniature dump truck in his driveway.
28. Visiting the grandparents
As this individual showed, you can still visit the grandparents during the pandemic. The only difference, you have to remain in your car and talk to them from the street. It’s the thought that counts.
29. Refined cooking skills
If you’ve always struggled in the kitchen, you could do what this person did…become a food wizard. With time on her hands, she decided to master her cooking skills and she did. It all looks delicious.

31. Share adorable pet videos

Okay, this might not be something you’d ever try but for this person, it became a passion. The designs created are amazing. I mean it takes some serious skill and patience to make eggs do that.
Just because someone can’t leave their home doesn’t mean they can’t do something nice for the individuals who still go to work every day. We’re seeing self-quarantined people make masks, send money, and supply goods to front-line workers. You too could do this by googling how.
At least for now, people can’t get together to play board games, darts, basketball, and other things they enjoy doing. But that didn’t stop one guy from challenging others online with a virtual game of, well, we don’t what it’s called. You can start a virtual game doing just about anything.
Are you bored out of your mind? Why not do what this guy did? Make a funny video of a hand puppet eating cars with music and sound effects included — and by the way, it’s gone viral.
37. Desperate times call for desperate measures
You have to feel kind of sorry for this person. They reached a point of desperation by removing all the seeds from a strawberry…with tweezers. Hopefully, he’ll quickly find something else to ease his boredom.
Sort of. This is another person’s desperate attempt at overcoming boredom. At least this “C section” didn’t involve any humans although it did make a lot of people laugh.
Between Xbox, PlayStation, and all the other gaming options available, a lot of people are spending time playing video games. Along with the newer stuff, some are feeling a little nostalgic so they’re going back to the basics.
We’re not talking about home improvement projects — more like what this family did. Putting up funny post-it notes not only made them feel better but also their neighbors and anyone driving by. You might try this.
41. Give a live performance
It’s not just the big-name artists who are live streaming free music to help cheer people up but also individuals like this woman. Listening to her beautiful voice and guitar playing are a perfect way to overcome boredom. If you have musical talent, you too could post or live stream a video.
42. Design a poster of coworkers
Now, you’d have to have some serious talent to pull something like this off but if you do, why not follow this person by creating miniature replicas of the people in your office. Once you go back to work, you can hang it up for everyone to enjoy…or not.
43. Eat and eat some more
Okay, so this isn’t the best way to overcome boredom but it still applies to millions of people in isolation.
Or in this case, it’s more like give yourself a haircut. With barbershops and salons closed, people have to get creative if they want to look their best. That means a do-it-yourself trim that doesn’t always go as planned. This guy tried to make the best out of a bad cut.
45. Support healthcare professionals
Talk about generosity. One person sent a local hospital pizza. After all, these professionals are working long hours and in potentially dangerous environments. You too can fight boredom by finding ways to give back.
46. An in-home theme park
That’s right. Some families who can’t leave the house to enjoy an amusement park are creating one inside their home. This family did an amazing rendition of the Pirates of the Caribbean, including rides and all.
If you’re handy with 3D printing, this is a great time to put your skills to the test. This woman and her husband recreated all the characters from Our Gang. But with 3D printing, you could also help make things to support the community during the pandemic.
48. Getting plenty of zzz’s
Similar to eating, people shouldn’t go overboard with sleeping while under quarantine. But at the same time, it’s important to get enough rest so the body remains strong.
49. Sharing a birthday with the world
Although this guy couldn’t go out for his birthday, that didn’t stop him from celebrating. If you’ll turn another year older while self-quarantined, don’t feel sad…share your special day with the world.
The internet is flooded with videos of people filming a family member doing…absolutely nothing. We suppose this helps pass the time although there are probably better ways to fight boredom.
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
