Being a young woman has its ups and downs. You manage to coast through half the time in relative normality, but then a situation comes along that’s just too funny, embarrassing or plain awkward to keep to yourself. Whether you’re a young woman or not, you’ll get a laugh out of these other women’s funny social media posts – and you might even be able to relate to a few of them yourself!
We’ve all seen hot dog legs, but have you heard of the rotisserie chicken? We’d imagine quite a few people have looked down on their bodies while at the beach and thought something similar. And you can’t always blame being pregnant, either.
This girl deserves a medal! Not only did she manage to make a hip flask look like a genuine clutch – which matched her shoes and everything – she got away with taking it into her school’s prom. Ingenious idea.
For some young women, life is just a series of failed online shopping experiences. It’s just too tempting to order from that cheap Chinese website that sounds too good to be true. In this woman’s case, it was. These wouldn’t even fit a baby, surely.
4. When you love dogs more
Young women are familiar with the old “grandkids” question, which is slightly annoying, because what if we don’t want to have kids? This girl is happy enough to hang out with her dog – a much easier living being to look after. We’re not all cut out for proper parenthood.
5. When somebody’s “hitting on” you
To be completely fair to this young woman, being female and below 30 does open up for quite a lot of interest from the opposite sex. This mostly means having strangers in public ask for your number. The awkward thing about this scenario is that the employee didn’t personally want this young woman’s phone number – he’d been on about the rewards program.
6. When you genuinely dress up
Some girls are all about looking pretty, even from a young age. You’d never guess this was a dress-up party if this girl’s sister hadn’t genuinely gone all out with a head-to-toe spiderman costume. Shame nobody else got into the dress-up spirit like she did!
Nothing is designed to be easy when you’re pregnant, let alone those final few weeks when baby’s almost ready to come out. This young woman attempted a yoga pose, because, as many of us know, yoga is supposed to be a great exercise when you’re pregnant. But no-one told her how difficult certain poses are when you’ve got a bun in the oven.
Bath bombs are always a bit of a risk. When they turn your bathwater blue, green, red, yellow… there’s a chance they might turn
you that color too. This young woman made a warning to the rest of the world: don’t use this bath bomb. Not unless you want to look like a part-alien and have to call in sick for work tomorrow.
Only women who wear makeup know the struggle of getting it off every evening. Washing your makeup away isn’t as simple as standing under the shower and letting everything slide off your face. It usually takes a good 10 minutes of scrubbing. Why is it so much easier to put on?
You’ve got to laugh at this girl’s mom’s humor. It’s hard to make a shopping trip for the essentials fun, but she managed it! Wonder what else she could snap around the supermarket that’d get her daughter laughing/eye-rolling again?
11. When you still need to shop
This young woman isn’t letting anything get between her and her supermarket shop – not even the small issue of a forest fire. Credit to her, she’s well-prepared for such a situation. You can’t get much safer than that.
12. When you’ve had a long day
If you’ve ever wondered why women take so long in the bathroom, it’s because of this. Just joking, of course – but seriously, being a young woman means doing a lot of socializing when you’d rather be in bed. And there’s nothing better than a long soak in the bath after a hard day.
Now
this is relatable to the majority of women out there. You head to the hairdressers, feeling quietly optimistic that you’re about to reinvent yourself into the woman whose photo you currently have saved on your phone. Only to learn, an hour later, that your hairdresser isn’t a miracle-worker, and worse – your hair looks nothing like the hair on the photo.
Being a woman probably means you understand how it feels to have long hair that gets itchy against your neck. But this?? Really?! You have to wonder how anyone would think it okay to let their hair hang in someone else’s face.
Let’s just clear this up for once: poor parking is not a woman-only problem. That’s sexist and doesn’t even make scientific sense. But that’s not to say that a lot of young women haven’t experienced parking issues at some point after getting their licences. That said, have you ever managed to park down a set of steps before?
16. Social media personalities
When you’re young enough to use every form of social media, you find yourself assuming a different personality for each platform. This young woman hit the nail on the head with her own social media personalities. We can relate – especially to “Tumblr”.
17. Dealing with the father-to-be
Deciding to have a baby with your partner essentially means that you’re prepared to spend a minimum of 18 years splitting parenting duties with them. So when this father-to-be arrived at a pregnancy photoshoot hungover, it didn’t give off the best impression. We can’t blame this young woman for her reaction!
We’re glad for the trend of putting a slice of bread around an animal’s nose or face, which looks adorable and ridiculous at the same time. This young woman went even further when she baked some doggy bread slices – which, of course, became pure-bread dogs. Her own doggo, with his nose in the bread slice, became “in-bread”.
You know when you see those delicious recipes on Facebook and you just have to try them yourself? Well, they don’t always end up looking like the original. This person’s mom attempted a Facebook recipe, and it’s fair to say that it could have gone better. Unless the burning was intentional.
This was either a very well-timed photo of a surprisingly springy horse, or a bit of Photoshopping has been done. We think the girl who posted this tweet has the right question – never seen a kite quite like that ourselves. Or is it a Disney balloon?
This young woman knows all too well what it’s like when mom catches you trying to leave the dinner table early. The meme pretty much sums up exactly what goes down if you dare to stand up before finishing your veggies. Those Brussels sprouts have got to get down you somehow.
Sometimes, it’s not enough for women to simply discuss their date with a friend in the aftermath. Nope – the friend has to actually be on the scene to witness the date for themselves. And potentially save them with a well-timed “coincidental meet-up” if all goes wrong.
23. When the biggest bucket isn’t enough
There’s something completely addictive about popcorn, and everyone knows that a bucket-full is never enough. This young woman took things into her own hands and brought a full-size binbag full of popcorn to her local movie theatre. Anyone seen anything that big on the menu?
Not everyone would appreciate a surprise baby, especially not if you learned about it from a mug. This woman has every right to be horrified by this mug – just imagine if you didn’t realize what it said inside! Let this be a lesson to never trust something that looks innocent at surface level.
25. When it’s time for work
There are days when going to work feels easy, and days when you’d rather do
anything than leave the house. When you’re just not feeling work, you probably internally want to lie on the floor in the same position as this young woman. But somehow you manage to drag yourself out the front door in an effort that should surely be applauded by your colleagues.
26. Those unwanted flashbacks
Young women are at that awkward stage where they’re moving quickly into adulthood while still having a whole cluster of memories from their embarrassing teenage days. If you’re a young woman and you have a male partner, you’re probably envious of how quickly he falls asleep, while you’re left lying awake with unwanted flashbacks replaying in your brain.
27. When a snake blocks your shower
Being a young woman doesn’t make you more prone to being scared of creepy crawlies, but phobies are so common that most of us are afraid of something. This young woman discovered that she wouldn’t be taking a shower as she’d planned… because a snake had taken up residency in her bathtub. Just no.
28. When you’ve overreacted…
Overreacting is sort of a female thing, we’ll admit it. But when the damage is done, you’ve got to ride it out. This young woman knows how it feels to overreact, then realize you’ve overreacted, then realize that you have no choice but to stand your ground. Life would be simpler if we didn’t get ourselves in these situations.

Most young women have been through a slightly vain phase (read: attempting to impress an Instagram follower with their glamorous selfies) and so most of us know the importance of good selfie lighting. These Little Mix band members – recognize them? – did what they had to do to snap that perfect pic.
Most young women know the struggle of owning a purse. How is it that you empty it on Monday, and by Friday, it’s crammed full of receipts, candy wrappers, perfume samples, spare clothes, someone’s pet chihuahua and several Starbucks utensils? And when it comes to leaving your purse on the back seat of your car… this girl’s post is spot-on.
Finding a place to prop a tiny handheld mirror is harder than it seems. They’re just not designed for placing on a flat surface while you use both hands to get your hair sorted. This young woman managed to find an ingenious mirror holder while out and about. If only all mirrors came with their own weird tentacle props.
32. Scare off all the males
There’s not a lot that a young female can do to prevent their bag from being searched at the airport – but this woman has the right idea. Fill your suitcase with pads, and it’s likely that those male TSA agents will be too awkward to do a proper search. It’s not recommended that you do this if you have an actual illegal substance in your bag, BTW.
According to the poster of this photo, the girl and her mom in this car pulled into the gas station, filled up, then casually drove away. Digging a groove in the road as they went. Where’s her tire gone, and why did neither the girl nor her mom seem to have spotted the problem? So many questions.
When this young woman asked for a highlighter, she was presented with two different options: a highlighter and… well, a highlighter. Though both responses are technically correct, there was only one that this girl genuinely wanted! Would you offer highlighter A or B?
Looking glamorous, even on the odd occasion, is much more difficult than it seems. Even when you’re feeling your absolute best, there’s always an outside source that manages to ruin things, like the rain, a wind storm, or, in this young woman’s case, a large, angry bird. What did she ever do wrong to him?!
36. When you have a crush
We’d say this young woman has outlined the stages of having a crush pretty accurately, using the image as a visual guide. There just needs to be another man on the right who’s shedding a silent tear – a representation of the “crying because they don’t know you exist” stage.
When you catch your partner texting on their phones with a smile on their faces, you can only hope a message is going to come for you! This young woman saw her husband texting at a restaurant, only to have a video ping through to her phone of the typical work of comedic genius we’ve become used to seeing on social media. Cute.
38. Accidental beauty discovery
You probably don’t know what a pore strip is unless you’re a young woman – in which case, you’ll be as impressed as us by this chocolate’s strawberry-pore-stripping abilities. The question is, can we use it for our own faces, and will it be as effective? Someone needs to test it out.
39. The difference eyelashes make
There’s nothing quite like putting on a pair of false eyelashes before a night out. But when you come to take them off the next day, your eyelashes feel as bald as if you’d shaved them off, plus your eyebrows for good measure. What’s that all about?
