Animals make our lives better in so many ways. They give us comfort, joy, companionship, and even offer us comedic relief at times. No matter what goofy game that they’re playing or what weird position that they have decided to lay in, nothing is funnier than watching them stare into a mirror at themselves. It always elicits some kind of hilarious response–whether they’re excited or horrified–for us to enjoy. So if you don’t have a pet of your own to put in front of a mirror, check out this collection of pets seeing themselves for what they really are.
1. That can’t be me.
Sometimes your reflection doesn’t show you what you are hoping to see. This poor cat seems to be surprised at how he looks. Hopefully, he’ll come to terms with his appearance someday.
2. Sup dog?
This dog seems both excited and surprised to have a friend in the house. Now if he could only figure out how to get over to him–and which toy to bring–the games would begin.
3. Hates his new haircut.
Sometimes the barber just doesn’t execute the cut. That first look in the mirror can be jarring but it will get better in time. Hang in there little lion.
4. Hey, good lookin’.
There’s nothing like catching your reflection in the mirror and liking what you see. This cat was so happy about it that she decided to stop and hang out for a while. Soak it in, good lookin’.
5. Who am I?
Sometimes we feel lost and uncertain about who we really are. This poor dog seems to be having an identity crisis of his own. Hopefully, once he steps away from that mirror he’ll forget about all of his issues.
6. Chin-chilling.
This chinchilla seems genuinely interested in meeting this new friend. Unfortunately for him, no amount of mirror scratching will bring his friend onto his side of reality.
7. Oh, how I’ve aged.
It can be easy to get consumed in self-pity when you pick yourself apart in the mirror. Sometimes the best thing to do is just walk away and give yourself some distance from that evil mirror. I think someone ought to give this poor cat that advice.
8. I look good.
Sometimes you can surprise yourself with how good that you look. This cat seems to still be dealing with that initial shock of liking what she sees. Hopefully, that feeling never fades.
9. I’m my best friend.
When you’ve got no one to play with, sometimes all you need is a little imagination. Add a mirror to that equation and you’ve got yourself an endless playing partner. This dog seems to be happy with his discovery.
10. What’re you looking at?
Whether you’re a human or an animal, no one likes to be walked in on while checking themselves out in the mirror. Sometimes the best you can do is try and send them away with a good stink-eye and prolonged silence.
11. Posted.
The best type of individual, whether a cat or human, is the one that feels no shame in their appearance. This cat is letting it all hang out and has no insecurities about it whatsoever. I think we could all learn a thing or two from this fluffy guy.
12. Cat interrogation.
Sitting through an interrogation is tough enough. But having to be interrogated by yourself is even worse. Try as you may, you’ll never be able to truly lie to yourself.
13. Fox lick.
Sometimes you think that you look so good that you want to have a taste. This little fox felt that way and went for a lick. I hope he tastes as good as he thinks he looks.
14. Happy to see me.
This dog was happy to see that inside the mirror world, there loved another human who looked just like his owner. At first, he was a little skeptical of the dog but seeing the familiar-looking owner has calmed his nerves enough to let out a big smile.
15. I’m stuck in a mirror.
If you’ve never experienced a mirror before then they may be a bit shocking–especially if your brain is only the size of a dog’s. It looks as though his pooch is trying to figure out whether or not he has been trapped inside a tiny mirror.
16. Time for my closeup.
Some of us are shy around a camera or a mirror. But others embrace it wholeheartedly. This cat seems confident and ready for her closeup.
17. I’m the cutest puppy.
Sometimes you’re so cute that you can’t help but look at yourself. This puppy sure has mastered his adorable look and it seems to be working on himself.
18. I’ll get you out of there.
It can be easy to imagine that your reflection is not actually just a mirror-image of you, but perhaps another person who is trapped on the wrong side of the glass. This cat seems to think so and looks defeated about trying to get them out of their mirror prison.
19. Kitty trippin’.
Mirrors have the ability to warp perception. And when you’re not sure where the lines of reality start and stop, a trippy mirror can be pretty wild to look at. This cat seems totally transfixed.
20. I should lose a few.
Mirrors can be our worst enemy or our source of inspiration. This bunny seems to be contemplating his weight. Hopefully his reflection sends him on a path of self-improvment rather than self-consciousness.
21. Happy otter.
Otters seem like happy creatures in general and this guy looks genuinely stoked to see his face in a mirror. Whether he thinks that he is looking at himself or another friend doesn’t really matter. All that matters is the pure joy that the mirror has produced.
22. What is reality?
Who’s to say that our reality is the real reality and our reflection’s reality isn’t. For all we know, our reflection-self is staring back at us thinking the same thing. This cat seems to be pondering that very possibility.
23. How much can one dog take?
When you’ve had a long day and dealt with some tough circumstances, you will often wear that stress on your face. This guy seems to be going through something and, for some reason, watching himself go through it seems to help. Hang in there pup.
24. Piggy smooch.
Did anyone else practice their first kiss on the mirror? Well, this piglet is giving it a go and based on her technique, I’d say that she’s ready for the real thing.
25. Come over to the dark side.
No matter how good of a person that we think we are, we still have a dark side. It’s how often we listen to that dark side that defines us as individuals. This cat seems to be struggling with his choice.
26. Hey, stop copying me.
When I was young, I spent my fair share of time trying to out-move my reflection. Unfortunately, I was never able to succeed. And it doesn’t look like this owl is going to pull it off either.
27. Wait, I’m a cat?!
Have you ever gone your whole life thinking that you were one thing only to find out you were another? Well, this cat has, and she doesn’t look too happy about finding out that she’s not actually a dog after all these years.
28. Don’t look down.
Sometimes it takes extreme focus not to look down at a poor angle of yourself. You may look good from straight on but most people don’t look great from the bottom. This cat seems to be trying his hardest to stay focused straight ahead.
29. Queen of the cats.
This royal feline looks very comfortable with what she sees. Her queenly coat is well kept and her posture is immaculate. I think she may sit here all day.
30. I’m my best friend.
It’s important to enjoy your own company. If you can’t make yourself happy then you surely can’t make someone else happy either. Take a tip from this kitty and chill with yourself sometimes.
31. I look good.
There’s nothing like a new collar to spice up your wardrobe. This cat seems pretty happy with her owner’s new purchase for her. Which is a good thing because she wouldn’t be able to take it off even if she wanted to.
32. I didn’t realize I was this small.
This poor little guy thought for sure that he was a pit bull or a boxer. Unfortunately, he just learned the truth about his size. Hang in there little guy, there’s a place in this world for every type of dog.
33. The darkness lies within.
Sometimes it is easier to just give ourselves over to the dark side. But once you’ve gone there, there’s often not a road to lead you back. I hope you’re happy with your decision, cat.
34. That’s close enough.
This dog seems to be standing guard against his own reflection. Whether he knows that he’s looking at himself or thinks that it is another dog, he seems pretty content with looking on from a distance.
35. There’s something on my chin.
Don’t you hate when you find out that you’ve had something on your face and no one told you? Well, imagine having a permanent stain on your chin and just finding out about it now. This cat seems to be taking it pretty well, actually.
36. Hello little me.
Some creatures are just born sweet. And this dog right here is one of them. I’d look at myself too if I was that adorable.
37. Sorry, I didn’t realize anyone else was here.
There’s nothing worse than thinking you’ve got the whole house to yourself only to find that your roommate was in the other room all along. Let’s just hope that this cat didn’t say anything embarrassing.
38. When did we get another cat?
As an only-pet, you get pretty used to having all of the attention on you. But imagine that one day you jumped up onto the bathroom counter only to find that there was another cat in the house. You’d probably look just as confused as this guy does.
39. I’m stuck in the wall.
It’s almost as if this dog is trying to convince himself that he’s not stuck in the wall over there. The ironic thing is that the longer that he sits and stares, the longer he’ll be “stuck.” Just move buddy.
40. How is it over there?
This dog seems genuinely curious about what life is like on the other side of the mirror. If only our reflections could talk and let us know. This dog will have to stick with wondering for now.
