Women apply makeup every day of their lives. With so much work put into it, we are bound to make mistakes every now and then. These mistakes are easy to make, but with any luck, youโll learn to correct them and end up with flawless makeup every day!

1) Applying Eyeliner Like Everyone Else
This is a tricky one, but the hard fact is that no one should apply eyeliner exactly the same. Those with wide set eyes should apply thicker liner on the inside of their eyes and those with close set eyes the opposite.

2) Applying Blush on the Apples
To avoid looking flushed, try moving away from the apples of your cheeks and applying blush to the hollows instead. In fact, it is probably best to watch a tutorial on everything you need to know about blush.

3) Using Soft Lipstick Lines
This is a big no-no. It happens to the best of us when we let our lipstick bleed onto our skin, losing that beautiful definition. To fix this either use a good quality lip pen or a lipstick brush, starting in the center and brushing outward.

4) Too Much Bronzer
Bronzer is not concealer or foundation. While itโs okay to use a little bronzer in the summertime when youโre feeling washed out, it should be applied only where the sun would naturally bronze you.

5) Matching Your Clothes
This is the fastest way to get makeup too bright. While itโs okay to stick with cool or warm colors, letโs leave it at that. Wearing purple makeup just because you have a purple dress puts everyone in distress.

6) Doing Lips First
Or rather, not leaving them until last. Itโs a rookie mistake that we have all fallen victim to. If you donโt leave your lips until last, you risk getting powder in them or even messing up your definite line.

7) Too Many Layers of Mascara
We all want long, thick lashes, so itโs only natural that we go overboard once in a while. But itโs bad practice to brush your lashes with 100 strokes. Instead, try going over them once with a lengthening mascara and once with a thickening one.

8) Dark Lipstick
Bold lipstick is perfect for a fun night out, but for everyday life, they make your lips look thin, dried out, and dull. Opt for mauve or something lighter and donโt forget a swipe of clear gloss for youthfulness.

9) Out-lining Your Lips
While your lips can be outlined, itโs important not to get any outside of your lips. In fact, add your lipliner first along your actual lip line and add in your gloss and lipstick afterwards.

10) Going Too Catty
Cat eyes are exciting, as long as they look semi-natural. A good rule of thumb is to not go more than a quarter of an inch past your natural eye. Keep a steady hand and take the time to make them symmetrical too.

11) Matching Your Eyebrows
To your hair, that is. If your eyebrows naturally match your hair, then thatโs awesome. But if you bleach your hair, please donโt bleach your brows too. They should be a bit darker anyway.

12) Overdone Eyebrows
We get it, intense eyebrows are in right now, but that doesnโt mean you have to go so ham on yours. Every brow is different and thatโs how they are meant to be. A little plucking never hurt anyone, but keep it natural!

13) Thick Lower Lash Mascara
You should use mascara on your lower lids, but if you do, take it easy. It doesnโt take much to make them look big and fake. The top should always be thicker than the bottom if you want them to look at all natural.

14) Youโre a Contouring Nightmare
Contouring is hands down the hardest thing to get right when applying makeup. The best way to get it right is to watch a video tutorial on it and make sure to blend well, using two foundations.

15) Concealing Instead of Correcting
There is a difference and it shows with dark circles. The skin there is a different color than the rest of the face, so using concealer will only make your face look uneven. Try a bit of corrector and bask in its glory.

16) Skipping the Upper Lid
Weโve all done it. Lining that lower lid is so easy compared to the top one. We have a better view and it make such a huge initial difference. But if you forget the top lid, your eyes wonโt look as bright and instead be drug down.

17) Applying in Bad Lighting
If youโre going to apply your makeup in your house, go to the room with the best natural lighting. Using overhead lights with yellow hues will only make you overdo it. Try out each room until youโve found your perfect lighting.

18) Too Much Shimmer and Shine
A little bit of glitter is fun every once in a while, but it should not be used as your eyeshadow. A color underneath and a little shimmer on the edge is all you need to look super glamorous.

19) Too Much Foundation
This is probably the most common and most important faux paus made today. Girls like to cover up their skin by creating an entire new layer of it! This does not look professional. Skimp a little next time, but donโt forget to apply a moisturizing primer!

20) Not Staying Hydrated
You may think that this has nothing to do with your makuep, but thatโs where youโre wrong. Drinking plenty of water will make your skin smoother, younger looking, and easier to apply makeup to!

21) Wearing For A Different Skin Type
What we mean here is that each person has an entirely different face. Some have oily skin while others dry out easily. Make sure your makeup suits your skin type. If you donโt know, ask a makeup expert at Sephora or even online!

22) Long Blush Strokes
Thatโs โblush strokesโ and โbrush strokes.โ Most people start with their blush at their mouth and move all the way to their temples. This is okay if your face is quite full, but otherwise, it will only make you look haggard. Try shorter strokes starting just below the eyes.

23) Missing the Neck
This is especially important when you get older. If youโll notice, many older women have young faces and older-looking necks. They applied makeup on their face alone! But blending is key at all ages!

24) Not Exfoliating
For the record, this isnโt the same as moisturizing. It should be done before moisturizing to clean your pores and get rid of dead skin. Starting with a clean slate is the first step to the perfect routine.

25) Branch Out From Black
Eyeliner, that is. We get so used to using black eyeline because it goes with anything that we forget others exist. As we age, especially, our brows and lashes thin, makeing that black liner stick out in all the wrong ways.

26) Single Shadow Blunder
You should never use just one color on your eyes, especially if that color is a bright one. The crease and above the eye should have different colors than the rest and bright colors should be used tastefully.

27) Using Dirty Brushes
Your brushes will probably last you years, but that doesnโt mean they never need cleaned. Itโs important that about once a week or month, you wash them with a bit of shampoo. You will notice the difference immediately!

28) Not Changing With the Seasons
Not only are fall colors gorgeous on those eyes, our skin tone changes with the winter and summer, and so should your foundation. So recheck your tone every season and invest in at least one new color.

29) Testing on Wrist
Most people test makeup colors on their hand, which is not the same color as their face! For best results, test it out on your jawline, making sure to carry a makeup remover wipe in your purse.

30) Never Mixing It Up
Wearing blue shadow everyday may look good, but is it really that fun? Try wearing brown one day and a neutral green the next. Whatever you do, change it up at least once a week and stay away from neons.

31) Overzealous Eyes
If itโs Halloween, go ahead and cake on that eye makeup, otherwise, keep it natural, or at least tasteful. Generally, heavy eye makeup looks cheap, and thatโs the last thing you want!

32) Creams Over Powders
This is a mistake. Women think that creams moisturize them, but this isnโt always true. When you have a choice, choosing powder instead of cream is your best bet. Creams tend to age your skin and slip into cracks, making your skin appear more wrinkled.

33) Pale Foundation
This happens far too often, especially with people who want fairer skin. But the truth is that paler foundation makes one look older. It washes you out and takes away your natural glow.

34) Not Taking Care of Your Skin
Your face should get attention even when youโre not wearing makeup. Itโs important to wash it every day, moisturize, and take part in damage control. One of the best things you can do for your skin is not wear makeup for a day.

35) Wrong Eyeshadow Colors
Brown is the safest you can get, but works best applied to creases to make your eyes look bolder, more alive. As for the lid in general, natural green tones or gem colors work best and gives you quite the variety.

36) Never Going Natural
If you wear heavy makeup every day, it may be hard to revert. But if you can do it, baring down and wearing as light as possible to accent your natural beauty is the best move you can ever make.

37) Forgetting to Curl
Not your hair, but your lashes! Chances are, you have an eyelash curler in your makeup bag and you never use it. This is another mistake. Hold the curler for fifteen seconds on each side before applying mascara.

38) Using Expired Makeup
Most makeup has an expiration date. But if you find yours doesnโt, just think about when you bought it. Can you remember? If not, then you probably should replace it just to be safe.

39) Only Using Foundation
Not using highlighter, bronzer, or blush is the fastest way to get a flat ghost face. If youโre not going to use something to give your face depth, then donโt use foundation at all.

40) Using a Eyeliner Pencil
This seems basic, but these days, itโs crazy to use anything but liquid eyeliner. Experts have learned that using a pencil pulls at the skin around your eyes and ages you. So if you can handle it, stick your chin up and apply that liquid eyeliner.
