The art and science of architecture extend so far beyond castles, palaces, hotels, and homes. Even chicken coops โ yes, chicken coops โ can be touched with strokes of architectural genius.
But what exactly is a chicken coop? Well, itโs just a structure that chickens live in โ a chicken shelter, otherwise known as a henhouse.
Chicken coops can be works of high art, too. Many modern coops come decorated with towers, gazebos, and lavish interiors. People forget about chickens โ like all organisms, they deserve love, affection, and a quality living situation.
Check out 35 of the most ridiculous, amazing chicken coops on the planet. No, these are not homes for hobbits, although some of them certainly look like they belong in the Shire.

1. Residence of Bilbo Baggins
This honestly looks like Bilboโs home in The Lord of the Rings. Thatโs definitely a hobbit house in the Shire. I mean even the circular doorโs incredibly similar. Iโm not sure that Gandalf can fit in here, though.

2. Chicken coop castle
Thatโs one dope dome. It almost looks like a Medieval greenhouse. The tower on the left looks like it belongs on a castle! Itโs like a miniature Game of Thrones set.

3. Wooded coop
Everyone can appreciate some fine wood. This coop looks like an incredibly fancy treehouse. The staircase is ornate and finely crafted.
I wonder if itโs air-conditioned, too.

4. Weirdly cool coop
This distinct, somewhat darkly chicken coop looks like something out of a Roald Dahl book. Or maybe itโs the house of a witchโฆ Either way, it looks weird and awesome. I wonder if the coopโs architecture wards off predators.

5. Truck coop
I guess a vehicle can always be repurposed if it canโt drive anymore. This truckโs trunk serves as a shelter for chickens. The roofโs a pretty tasteful touch. Although this truckโs not going anywhere soon, the owners are getting a lot of extra mileage out of it.

6. Harrowing henhouse
Look at that roof. The shingles are grizzly. The entire aestheticโs straight out of a horror film. Everything about itโs delightfully dark and disheveled, culminating in one unique coop.

7. Vines
A lot of coops could use a nice tower. Any edifice with a tower definitely gets style points. These chickens have made a wonderful home for themselves. Plus, thereโs a decent amount of room in there, as coops go.

8. Rockets
Although the coop takes the form of a giant wooden rocket, it definitely looks pretty cramped. Iโm assuming thereโs an incline or set of steps that lead up?
I wonder if the chickens are heading to the moon. Have you heard the classic Electric Light Orchestra hit, โChicken to the Moonโ?

9. Pod
This chicken coop pod looks futuristic. Is this chicken from space? Have you seen that episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog? The chicken from outer space is truly a menace.

10. Tasteful tower
So apparently in architecture, these types of towers are referred to as turrets. Instead of starting on the ground, they spring outward from the building, itself. So I guess turrets are types of towers?
Regardless, this coop-turret comboโs fantastic.

11. The police box
The role of the police has come into question recently. Some states and municipalities have taken action. Others have replaced their police forces entirelyโฆ with chickens?
But seriously, this old police call box definitely makes for a unique coop.

12. Fancy inside
Check out the inside of this henhouse. The walls are eggshell white for a reason, right? The open-air atmosphere really gives it a grand sense of space.
Hey, is that a chandelier?

13. Pastel coop
Are you a fan of pastel colors?
Check out this blue pastel design. It almost looks like a daycare. Well, itโs not a daycare โ itโs a chicken coop.

14. Barnhouse henhouse
This cute coop sports two adjacent red buildings. They look like miniature barns. The center gazebo ties everything together.
How many chickens live here?

15. Three roofs
The three separate buildings of this coop ensure a ton of room. The ensemble features a door for humans and a separate door for chickens. The center looks like a walkway or room of sorts.
These chickens have it made in the shade.

16. I heart โchickenโ coops
Wait, these โchickensโ look a lot like ducksโฆ Is this a duck coop? Is that a thing? I have so many questions. The coop looks lovely, though โ decorated with faded blues and a heart silhouette.

17. The lovely coop on the hill
The hillโs slanted. Thereโs a lovely little chicken coop upon said hill. Using netted sides instead of actual walls can keep temperatures lower and provide a sense of space. Look at the weather vane atop the coop!
Shoutout chickens.

18. Circus chickens
These chickens might be part of the circus. I wonder what phenomenal talent or oddity they possess? Maybe these chickens can produce golden eggsโฆ
Welcome to the Cirque du Poulet.

19. New Age coop
Is that an unpside down blue bottle? Whatever it is, it looks cool and fits well against the New Age exterior tile style. The interiorโs fully furnished with chicken necessities.
Not a bad setup at all.

20. Anti-police chicken
For good reason, American cultureโs been going through somewhat of a reformation. The death of George Floyd has yielded social change across the globe. Did this chicken steal a cop car and turn it into a home? At this point, I wouldnโt be surprised by anything.

21. Jurassic Bark
Jurassic Parkโs a classic. The Steven Spielberg film really resurrected the dinosaurs, culturally. Jurassic Bark isnโt exactly crawling with dinosaurs. But it does feature some of their most prominent modern relativesโฆ chickens.

22. Almost alligator abode
From the right angle, this could almost pass as a home or store of sorts.
Fortunately, the chickens have a rather spacious front yard. This coop looks capable of protecting them from the elements while still providing sufficient interior space.
The top of the front almost looks like an alligator.

23. The magic school bus
Ever seen a chicken go to school? Me neither. But a school bus might actually make a decent chicken coop. Iโm not sure how much space they have on that thin slab of wood, though. These chickens have pretty good balance, fortunately.

24. The Bates Motel
Have you seen the Hitchcock classic Psycho? If you havenโt, definitely check it out. The Bates Motelโs a legendary horror setting. I imagine thereโs no psychopathic chicken killer running amok here, though.

25. Shack and vines
This โshackโ looks great. The dwelling appears to be made completely out of wood. The greens really add some colorful nuance to the roof.
Itโs nothing overly ornate, but hopefully the chickens enjoy it.

26. Western saloon or hotel
This chicken coopโs an anachronism. It looks similar to an old Western saloon of sorts. The text on the exterior reads, โHotel Eggcelsior.โ I wonder if these chickens have seen Once Upon a Time in the West?

27. Barn coop
Barns fit right in on most farms. This barnโs been repurposed as a spacious chicken coop. This coop features tons of elbow (or wing?) room for these chickens. The triangular overhang really gives the building some flavor, to boot.

28. Cute little coop
It truly looks like one of those golf course pit stops. They generally include a bathroon, bench, and way to clean your gear and balls.
So is this a golf course coop? Either way, itโs a pretty nice setup.

29. Slanted and enchanted
The incline really adds some character to this coop setup. Not too shabby, although it doesnโt seem that spacious. The designโs pretty homey, vaguely reminiscent of modern middle America.
Are these suburban chickens?

30. Coop church
Hereโs a heavenly little chicken coop reminiscent of a church. The soft color palette stands out amid the lush green foliage. Conversely, the flower arrangement really brings out the foreground. The weather vane adds another nice touch.

31. Good wood
Itโs just a nice wooden chicken coop. The miniature buildingโs vertically-oriented with a drawer and roof on the second story. Thereโs nothing over the top or eccentric about this coop. Itโs just clean and effective.

32. Home on the range
This coop almost looks like a โtiny home,โ an increasingly popular design movement stressing efficient, small spaces. The cute, decorated blue doorโs a nice touch. Iโm not sure how much space the chickens actually have here, but the exterior looks nice. The ambiance of the field provides a larger sense of space.

33. Green machine
This green buildingโs been repurposed as a chicken coop. It could even pass for a small human home, to be honest. The chickens certainly have tons of space here. The weather vane chimes are pretty cool, too.

34. Lone star
The lone star on this coop may signify Texas. Or maybe the chickens that inhabit it are all stars? Either way, they have a pretty rad coop. The rugged red adds a ton of character.

35. Mobile chicken home
This coop looks like a nifty, modern mobile home. It evokes vague memories of the show Ed, Edd, n Eddy. Do the chickens hang out in the upper compartment? Thereโs definitely enough room for a chicken party.
