Some of us have been blessed with the natural ability to stay neat and organized. Others, like me, will forever be rummaging around in our drawers looking for that thing we know we have but can’t remember where we left it. It’s a curse. But fortunately, there are ways to make our lives easier!
Thanks to the more organized among us, and the magic of the internet, there are some super simple tried-and-tested methods to help organize your home. The amount of times you say “have you seen…” each day is about to decrease 100%. Well, at least 50%.
From neatly labelling your cords to optimizing your fridge space, these quick tips cover every aspect of your home.
Grab your note pad (if you can find it) and get ready to jot these down. Your home is about to get a whole lot more organized!
1) Casually color code your cords
That’s a lot of alliteration! But it’s also an epic organization tip. How annoying is it when you need to figure out which of those seven black cables belongs to what device? Unplugging the wrong thing could be catastrophic (imagine losing your wi-fi connection!!). But by adding some simple bread bag tags, you can keep them labelled and never have to worry again.
2) Pool noodles keep your boot’s shape
Floppy boots got you down? Fear not! You can spend a couple bucks on a pool noodle and use it to keep your boot’s shape. They fit perfectly and help to keep your boots looking fresh and sturdy for longer.
I want to know what made anyone look at a pool noodle and say “hmmm… you know what? I’m going to put this in my shoe.” but I respect them for it.
3) For all the tea lovers out there…
I need this more than anything in the world. It’s so easy for a tea collection to get out of control and clutter up your pantry. But by keeping it all in one adorable little compact space like this, it’s more functional and looks adorable!
If you’ve been to New Zealand you’ll recognize that box of T2 – they have the best tea in the world. This made me jealous.
4) Tons of t-shirts? We’ve got you.
Don’t stress about needing to cut down on your t-shirt collection and choose which ones to donate to make more space. Some old book ends will help you keep your t-shirts drawer tightly folded and neatly placed.
5) There is hope – not all Tupperware lids must disappear!
I don’t think you can find one person on this planet who hasn’t had a tupperware lid mysteriously disappear. Or get stuck on the edge of a drawer and stop you from getting it open. They’re a nightmare. But this miracle fix will make all of your Tupperware anxieties go away. Grab a file folder next time you’re at the stationary store, and all your troubles will go away.
6) You don’t have to hide your kitchenware
This is a sneaky way to keep your clutter looking chic. Not everything needs to be tucked away in it’s perfect little place all the time. Showing off your colourful kitchenware can actually liven up your cooking space. And, help you find everything more easily! Win win.
7) Double your pantry space
Double down on pantry space by taking advantage of the inside of the door! Don’t be limited by shelving. If you can get creative with small spaces, that’s half the battle.
8) Add more compartments to your fridge
Just because your fridge only comes with two drawers, don’t mean you have to abide by those. Take matters into your own hands and add your own! It helps keep similar items together, or can act as a pre-meal-prep. Put all the ingredients you need for a meal in the same box, and you’ll never have to rummage through the fridge again.
9) This one’s for the craft lovers
Addicted to buying craft supplies? Can’t help yourself when you see another beautifully coloured thread at the craft store? Don’t change your ways – just work smarter. One (or two, or three, or four) box with smaller compartments can work wonders for keeping your threads organized.

12) Moving doesn’t have to be so chaotic
Moving is always exciting! Though when you get to the other side and can’t find anything you’re looking for because it’s all over the place, it’s so stressful!
But a couple garbage bags can work wonders in helping keep everything in your closet together, and in good shape. Just tie them around a group of hangers like a very budget dust bag, and you’re all set!
13) Prevent those pesky tangled cables
There is nothing worse than pulling a cable out of a drawer and finding it all mangled and twisted together! Will the madness ever end?! Yes, it will.
This quick and free hack is a great way to repurpose something that would otherwise go in the garbage (or hopefully, the recycling bin). You just need an old shoe box and some empty toilet paper rolls.
14) The dreaded bedding closet can be conquered
Every time you squish another pillow or duvet in there, you know you’re leaving that problem for your future-self. But by taking an extra moment to put your bedding away in an organized box, will save future you the hassle of having it all fall out in a pile the next time you open the door. Be kind to yourself. You deserve it.
15) This craft table makes my heart flutter
Whether you like crafting or not, this epic organization table will make you want to go out and pick up a pack of sequins just so you can display them as elegantly as this.
This hack also works great for spices or tea!
16) Who needs alphabetical organizing?
Okay, so this one depends heavily on how you plan on finding your books. If you’re a visual person, or can never remember an author’s name, colour coding is for you! It also looks incredible. Who doesn’t love a pop of colour?
17) Optimize that tiny laundry room
We can’t all be blessed with a walk-in laundry room. Sometimes it’s just a little laundry corner or closet and it’s hard to know where to keep your detergents. But using a hanging compartment makes it 100 times easier to keep it all in the same tiny area.
18) Jewelry lovers unite!
Earrings are so hard to store because they’re so tiny! When you have a lot of them, keeping them together is near impossible. But this clever earrings enthusiast has got it all figured out. Keep them in a roll and you’re all set! (Get it?)
19) Save time and space with meal prepping
Simple plastic bins can help you keep all of your recipe ingredients together. When you get back from the grocery store you can group your items all together, and not have to think about it until you go to cook.
20) Double down on shelf space
Use empty shelf space as decoration. Can’t remember what kind of wine you have in stock? Display them on a kitchen shelf and it immediately doubles as a wall feature and additional storage.
21) Fit bedding into one pillow case to keep your closet organized
Imagine a world in which you don’t have to struggle to find matching bedding from all around your linen closet. This neat trick keeps your bedding easily accessible and together. Just fold and stuff the other bedding elements into one pillow case and voila. Making the bed won’t be so annoying and time consuming.
22) Easily access those dishes
Why stick to the status quo when it just makes your life harder? It’s difficult to have to lift all your dishes before accessing the ones in the middle of the stack. So go vertical!
23) Post it up
It’s hard to keep track of expiration dates, and they’re always so tiny and hard to read! Make it easier on yourself with some bold, easy to read post it notes.
24) Leave your garbage bag woes behind
Instead of balled up loose garbage bags cluttering up the storage beneath your sink, get sleek simple rollers that can be pulled off with ease like a sheet of paper towel.
25) Buy shower products to your heart’s content
If your shower doesn’t have a lot of shelving (or you have an absurd amount of shower products like I do) you may need to double down on space. Use some simple ring clips to hang your soaps from the shower rod. Boom! Virtually unlimited space.
26) Make making coffee easier
The last thing you want to do when you wake up is have to scramble around looking for the measuring spoon. Find one that doubles as a clip, and it can be easy to find and keep your coffee fresh.
27) A recyclable condiments cart
Use an old egg carton to hold your condiments upside down so they’re ready to be squeezed!
28) Don’t forget the freezer
There are some hot fridge hacks, but rarely do we see clever ways to organize the freezer. And that’s always the messiest part! But this clever clip trick is all you need to know for an easy freezer makeover.
29) Organize your new books from the old
We all have books we want to read but sometimes they get lost in the book shelf. By grouping all your new books together in your reading space, you’ll be able to quickly select the perfect book to read, without the temptation of defaulting to an old favourite.
30) Kids spaces don’t have to be hectic
This sets a good example for the little ones. Keep all their reading materials together, and create a cozy little reading space. It’ll make them look forward to reading time!
31) Tidy up that stationery drawer
Those scissors are always mysteriously missing, aren’t they? If you don’t want to have 7 different pairs of scissors in order to have them on hand when you need them, you could make your life much easier instead. Just get some little dividers so you can separate pens from scissors, tape and paper.
32) Proud of your clothing collection, why not show it off?
Folding t-shirts, sweaters, and jeans in an open closet makes it easier to pick your outfit for the day! And if you can fit your favorite shoes on the same set of shelves, it’ll be even easier to accessorize. It also looks amazing!
Hopefully these home organization hacks have given you tons of inspo for ways to bring a little more order into your life. You don’t have to be Type A or OCD to have a functional, neat living space, and it doesn’t have to be expensive!
