Being a waiter can be a challenge at times. You have to deal with unruly customers, endless rushes, and you are constantly on your feet. But some waiters have found a way to make their shifts go by just a little easier–through sarcasm and humor. When you’ve had a long day, there’s nothing better than a good laugh. So check out this list of waiters who gave their customers a bit more than they bargained for and the next time that you’re out at a bar or restaurant, make sure to tip your waiter well.
1. Long Day
For this bartender, St. Patrick’s Day is always a big event. She was the only one working being the bar of the only Irish pub in town–so she earned herself a nap. And by the looks of all the cash on the table, I’d say her extra-long day was worth it. Well done, miss. Well done.
2. Smooth Move
Sometimes you don’t need to say a thing when you are trying to make a move on someone. This barista was clever enough to let his cup do the talking for him. It’s clever and straight to the point. I hope she left him her number.
3. Brian With A “Y”
Some people are particular about things. And based on this picture, I’d say Bryan is a bit particular about having his name spelled correctly. However, this barista could care less about how Bryan spells his name. She heard exactly what you said Bryan, but she’s got more important things to do than spell your name right.
4. Pac-Man Pancake
The best way to get through a long shift is to have some fun with it. When this cook flipped his flapjack, he couldn’t help but notice a Pac-Man resemblance. So what did he do? He fully committed, that’s what he did. Thank you, chef, for being awesome.
5. Clever
The real question is, has this shirt ever worked for him? Sure, it’s meant to be funny, but some people can’t resist a man with a good sense of humor. Either way, it’s clear that this bartender knows how to have a good laugh. I’d have a beer at his bar.
6. Casual Skate
Why walk to your table when you can skate? This waiter is wasting no walking, she has too many tables to take care of. Let’s just hope someone didn’t spill a drink on the floor. That could make for one nasty fall.
7. Rude Customer
When this customer heard another customer being rude, he was sure to let the waiter know that she was doing a good job. Clearly, the waiter appreciated the man’s compliment. Don’t be rude to your waiters, people. They have to deal with a lot more than you think.
8. Skills
This may be the most impressive plate stack that I have ever seen. I know if I were to try and pick this tower of dishes up, they would come crashing down to the floor. I want to shake this busser’s hand–once he puts down his dishes of course.
9. Working Smarter Not Harder
This waiter has got it figured out. Why walk around aimlessly, waiting for someone to need your help, when you could take a quick powernap at work instead? I prefer to be left alone at my table when I’m eating anyways. This is my kind of waiter.
10. Be Nice To Your Bartender
This just goes to show why you shouldn’t be rude to your bartender. They have the power to cut off your alcohol consumption as well as make your drinking situation a little tougher than you were hoping for. I hope this customer was a little too-far gone to be able to successfully retrieve his final beer.
11. Crackers, Anyone?
What good is chili without any crackers? This customer must have been adamant on having extra crackers with his meal. And whoever was working the register made sure to get the order exactly right. I just hope they actually gave him that many crackers… and put them in the chili bowl for him.
12. Tips For Shoes
People are much more interested in tipping well when they know that their money is going to good use. This waiter seemed to know that. She decided to advertise exactly where the customer’s hard-earned money would be going. I just wonder if she’ll keep the duct tape shoeseven after she buys some new ones.
13. Lactose Intolerant
Dietary restrictions can be tough to deal with when you are going out to eat. Sometimes the menu doesn’t contain items that you can eat. For this person’s brithday, a bun with chocolate on it was all the waiter could find that didn’t contain lactose. This is a true A-for-effort scenario.
14. Picky Eater
Some people can be very picky when it comes to their food. But this customer definitely takes the cake for pickiest eater. I can only hope that the chef completed all of these tasks while cooking this meal. And if so, I hope the customer offered them a huge tip.
15. Phallic Dessert
It may take a second, but what does this dessert resemble to you? Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. I think it’s great for chefs to have fun with their creations. Afterall, you can only make the same old boring cake so many times before you go a little crazy back there in the kitchen.
16. Say It How It Is
Sometimes, honesty is the best policy–even when it means being completely blunt and a bit sarcastic. This waiter must have done a great job or they wouldn’t have been able to pull off this type of confidence. If this had been my waiter, a big tip would have come their way.
17. Chilly Customer
When this customer told their waiter that they were cold, they did they only thing that they could think of–bring them a tablecloth. Restaurants don’t usually have extra sweaters on hand. But this woman seemed just fine with a tablecloth blanket. Kudos to the server for thinking on their feet.
18. Fair
No topic is off-limits at a bar. And if you are a bartender, you can’t help up overhear all the conversations that are taking place at the bar. So when this bartender realized that Game of Thrones would probably come up in conversation, they made sure that the customers knew that they weren’t caught up yet.
19. T-Rex Bartender
When in doubt, put on a dinosaur head. I’ve personally never tried, but I can only imagine that it positively impacts the amount of tips that you receive. The hard part is actually doing your work while wearing the costume. But once you master working as a dinosaur, you’ll never work as a human again.
20. More Foam Please
It’s never a good idea to tell your bartender how to do their job…especially if they are Irish. This customer told their bartender that their Guiness wasn’t filled to the top. So in return, they received more foam and a nice message on top. Look close and you’ll see it.
21. Plate To-Go
When this customer asked to have her plate to go, the waiter couldn’t resist a little joke. They came back with a small plate inside of a to-go container. That’s pretty funny if you ask me. But if I was this customer, I’d hope that my food would still be on its way.
22. That’s What She Said
There’s nothing quite like a good, that’s-what-she-said joke. It’s a joke that you’ve heard and been saying since you were in Jr. High and, when done right, is still funny. This cashier couldn’t pass up this opportunity to do a good that’s-what-she-said joke. And if you ask me, I’d say that they nailed it.
23. Cat Check
Sometimes it’s the smallest gestures that have the biggest impact. When this waiter drew a cat on the bill, the customers were happy to see it. Although it doesn’t take much time to do, this will be something that the customers will remember for a while. And it will definitely be reflected in their tip.
24. Yelp Review
You can’t erase a bad Yelp review from the internet, but you can own it. No matter how good the service is that you provide, you won’t be able to make everyone happy. So when one person has a bad day at your restaurant, it shouldn’t negatively affect your business. This waiter played it perfectly. Just own it and move on.
25. Serious Talent
Sometimes you’ll find talent in the most surprising of places–and this waiter clearly has some serious talent. I couldn’t balance that much of anything on my arms, let alone someone else’s food. One slip and there goes quite a bit of money. But I’ve got confidence in this kid, he’ll make it to where he’s going.
26. Pretty Pho King Funny
When done right, a good play on words is hilarious. And this Pho restaurant nailed it. I’d come back here just to read these shirts again. A little humor goes a long way in the food industry.
27. Put A Lid On It
If you spill your orange juice, it’s on you. When this kid spilled his juice, the waiter decided that they weren’t going to take anymore chances. They brought over this hilarious spill-proof cup. Hopefully he gets to keep it.
28. Double-Take
You may have to look at this picture twice to understand what you are seeing. At first glance you may think that this barista is naked from the waist down, but look again. She is actually wearing skin-colored leggings. Probably not the best choice of pants for work, but hey, technically she’s not breaking any dress-code rules.
29. Bored At Work
Sometimes work is so slow that you’ve already completed all of your tasks for the day. But since it’s not quitting hour just yet, you can’t go home. That’s when it’s time for the at-work selfie. It’s always guaranteed to shave a little time off of your shift.
30. Terrifying Truth
Sometimes it’s better not to know what people are actually thinking. But every once in a while, you get to know someone’s true intentions–and they can be terrifying. This just goes to show that you should never mess with your server. They have access to your food before you do after all.
31. How About A Lemon?
I’m not sure what led up to the waiter putting this many lemons on this customer’s glass, but it’s a pretty funny sight. I can only hope that the customer asked one too many times for lemon in their water. Rather than simplying put one, the waiter decided to give them exactly what they asked for.
32. Pickle Destruction
This customer let his waiter know in a very unique way that he didn’t like pickles. He told him that for every pickle he received, he would destroy a city. So the waiter brought him a plate of pickles with a list of his least favorite cities. I guess we’ll see what happens.
33. Small Beer
When this customer asked for a small beer, he didn’t expect this. Either his bartender has a very good sense of humor or he just takes things very literally. Either way, this makes for one funny picture. If it were me, I’d drink the little beer and ask for a large one next time.
34. One Fry Short
When this waiter dropped a fry on his way over to the cutomer’s table, he made sure to get the customer what he owed him–a single fry. I mean, you can’t be upset at that, right? He settled his fry debt and now the two of them are even. Well done, waiter.
35. Nothing For Dessert
When this kid was asked what he wanted for dessert, his response was, “Nothing.” The waiter took this literally and brought him, well… nothing. Everyone else was amused by this. Everyone except this kid, of course.
36. Best Server Shirt
There is nothing more frustrating as a server than having someone ask you for something when you are already helping someone else. This waiter found a way around this. She had this awesome shirt made. There should be no more requests from behind her now.
37. Small Check
When this customer jokingly asked for a small check, the waiter had a joke of their own. They brought back the smallest check they could come up with. The price is still high, but the check is small. I guess this customer got what they asked for.
38. Lattes Are For…
Some people are convinced that the types of drinks that you order mean something about your character. So when he told his buddy who he thought lattes were for, the barista made sure to make him a special latte–one that described the name he called his buddy for ordering one.
39. Last Supper
This server wanted to do something special for her last shift. So she decided to get some people together and recreate the “Last Supper” painting. It actually resembles it quite a bit–just a little more modern.
40. Another O.J. Lid
I’m not sure why orange juice is so hard not to spill for some people. But it seems as though all waiters know the lid trick. If the customer spills it once, then they get a lid and a straw. Age is not a factor.
