Children movies are supposed to be safe for all ages, but some are definitely not. The villains in certain children’s movies are so haunting, that they will haunt children well into adulthood. Some villains are cartoons and some have been real life. All we know is that our fear of them was so real that when we watch the movies as adults, we are waiting for the scary parts in fear! 1. Judge Doom
Judge Doom Who Framed Roger Rabbit was terrifying! Any villain who’s purpose is to kill cartoons is just plain wrong. We all remember the part when his eyes turned red and started to come out of his eye sockets at the very end. That moment will be scarred into every child’s memory that watched this children’s movie.
2. Rasputin
Rasputin from Anastasia was created so well that he was petrifying! What was so scary was that he had dark magic on his side, which brought him back to life after his death. His ability to stay alive and reign terror onto Anastasia, even after killing her entire family, was scary! Not even his funny sidekick, Bartok, could make children less scared of him.
3. Grand High Witch
Who remembers the Grand High Witch from The Witches? The movie was about an orphaned boy, Luke, who has to live with his grandma. They go to a resort to let his grandmother heal, but a convention of witches is taking place at the same time, who are all disguised as normal women. When Luke discovers their plan to turn all the children into mice and he discovers the true version of the Grand High Witch, it was a moment of terror! The face of the Grand High Witch will haunt every child who had to watch this movie!
4. Hexxus
Hexxus from Ferngully had a reign of terror. The ability to transform throughout the movie because of his oil appearance kept every child on the edge of their seat. Watching this movie as an adult, the realization comes that the movie is in reference to humans destroying the planet. This realization keeps Hexxus just as terrifying as adults!
5. Professor Quirrell/Lord Voldermort
Many children had already read the first installation of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, before the movie, but seeing the words turn into live action was scarier than they thought! Seeing Professor Quirrell take of his turban to reveal Lord Voldermort on the back of his head will never be forgotten!
6. Scar
Scar from The Lion King was one of those villains that were just pure evil. There was not one redeeming quality to him. He killed his brother, ran his little nephew out of his home, and destroyed the Pride Lands while he ruled. As a child, and even as an adult, you watch The Lion King and realize there is not anything that Scar would not do for power. That creates one of the scariest villains of all time.
7. Miss Trunchbull
There is just something about Miss Trunchbull from Matilda that will scare children and adults alike. Her willingness to be evil against the loveable Miss Honey and adorable Matilda was terrifying! No one will forget Miss Trunchbull’s closet that she punished children in, with those nails coming out everywhere! Pure terror!
8. Angler Fish
There is nothing more terrifying than something that is real, such as the Angler Fish in Finding Nemo. This fish came out of the complete darkness and not only shocked Marlin and Dory, but the entire audience as well. This might not have been the villain of the entire movie, but it was still a villain to the audience!
9. Hollowgast
The Hollowgast from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is seared into the memory of every child that watched the movie. There has not been a creature more scary, with its no eyes and tentacles that came out of its mouth! We have no idea who thought this villain would be acceptable for a children’s movie, but they were so wrong!
10. Sid
Sid from Toy Story might not have looked like a villain that would haunt children, but he sure did. His ability to be the teenager next door that was insane against toys, was all to real. It made every child question their own teenage neighbors. He created such monsters out of lovable toys and he induced fear into every child!
11. Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge
Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge from James and the Giant Peach were aunts that only could come from nightmares! These two instilled fear every time they were on screen. It was scary how they only got more and more scarier as the film went on!
12. Ratigan
Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective is one villain that had a lasting impact on all the children that watched. Ratigan was the most infamous criminal in all of Mousedom and he knew the power he held. He loved being evil and took great pleasure in his evil deeds, which made him even more scarier.
13. The Witch
While the Evil Queen was scary in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, it was her incarnation as the witch that was even scarier. Her ability to transform into the evil, old witch was terrifying! Not to mention that she still haunts children today as the witch every time a child rides the Snow White ride at a Disney theme park!
14. The Government
The ability to make the U.S. Government be seen as the villain was a job well done in E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. At first, the audience believes that E.T. will be the villain but everyone soon falls in love with the little alien! Then when the U.S. government comes to town, they become the enemy. As adults, it is still hard to watch the government come after E.T., especially knowing that this would actually happen in real life!
15. Claude Frollo
Claude Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame will never stop being horrible, no matter the age you watch the movie. He was so sinister that he was willing to burn Esmerelda if he could not have her. Claude Frollo was a horrible villain as a child and remains so until this day for all adults!
16. No Face
No Face from Spirited Away has haunted every person that had to watch him. Spirited Away was a smaller known child’s film but for those that witnessed it, stayed haunted by No Face. No Face had the ability to take on others physical traits and personalities. He was able to do this by swallowing the person that he would take on. This was horrifying.
17. Meredith
Meredith Blake was the nightmare, future step-mom in Parent Trap. Her evilness was in the form of ruining everything Hallie and Annie were working so hard to achieve, a reunion of their parents. Many children have significant others of their parents and Meredith resembled everything that could happen if their parent married them! Hallie and Annie knew she was evil but their father could not see it! Meredith Blake stays with all children that watched her.
18. Coachman
There were plenty of villains to fear in the movie Pinocchio, but Coachman is one that will always stand out! Coachman lured young boys to Pleasure Island with the idea they would live there happily, but was secretly turning them all into donkeys! Pleasure Island was already a place that children should not have seen in a children’s movie, but the idea that one man was behind it and turning them into donkeys was horrific!
19. Oogie Boogie
In the beginning, the Ooogie Boogie villain in Nightmare Before Christmas comes off deceiving. Isn’t every character in this movie supposed to be some type of villain? Well, not to far in does every child realize that Oogie Boogie is worse and way scarier! He is the villain in a land of villains which will give children nightmares for years!
20. Miss Minchin
Miss Minchin was out to ruin Sara’s life in A Little Princess. It seemed so horrible that Sara, the young girl every child rooted for, would be treated so horribly by Miss Minchin. There seemed to be no reason for it and she was well hated. Watching A Little Princess as an adult, Miss Minchin is still just as hated as she was during our childhoods!
21. Grand Duke of Owls
The Grand Duke of Owls from Rock-a-Doodle was an underrated villain! He was the stuff of nightmares for children. As a child, a huge fear is darkness. Well, Grand Duke hated the light and was doing everything he could to never have light again. This was frightening for so many children and this fear of the Grand Duke stayed deep into adulthood!
22. The Forest
It was not only the Evil Queen that was the villain in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, an unlikely villain was the forest. When the forest came to life in the darkness and started to go after Snow White, this unintended villain became more frightening to children than the Evil Queen herself. The forest would continue to be one of the most scary scenes to watch, even for adults!
23. Mama Fratelli
Mama Fratelli from The Goonies was the villain that scared the other villains. The Fratelli family was even scared of Mama, which made her super scary for everyone else. If her own family feared her, how could anyone else not be afraid of her?
24. Trantor
You know that a children’s movie villain might have been to scary when even the creator admits that it was! This is exactly what happened with Trantor the Troll from Ernest Scared Stupid. Trantor was so terrifying that the director, John Cherry, admitted years later that Trantor might have been too scary for children. Trantor was a troll that wanted to kill the main character, a child named Ernest.
25. Evil Clown
The Evil Clown’s laugh from Brave Little Toaster lives in the nightmares of many children and adults. That laugh was very haunting, as is the fact he only every said one word, “run.” Will do!
26. Mrs. Tweedy
Mrs. Tweedy basically created a death farm in the movie Chicken Run. As children, even as adults, the fear that Mrs. Tweedy gives when she is on screen is horrific. Not many movies are pretty open with the fact that the villain wants to kill the main characters, but this is known in Chicken Run. What a horrible villain!
27. Lady Tremaine
Before Meredith Blake, there was Lady Tremaine. Lady Tremaine was the evil stepmother from Cinderella that was there to make sure Cinderella’s life was miserable. She took everything that should have been Cinderella’s and instead made her life miserable.
28. Chernabog
Chernabog is the original Disney villain from Fantasia. From the very beginning Disney children’s movies have made sure to keep children fearful! Chernabog is pure evil, between his size and power he is terrifying. Chernabog has been terrifying children and adults for over 80 years and his reign of terror does not seem to be going away anytime soon!
29. Beldam, Other Mother
The idea that a creature can turn into your own mother is horrifying. That is exactly what Beldam does in Coraline. A mother is supposed to be a child’s safe place, but not in Coraline. Beldam is known more commonly as Other Mother because she turns into Coraline’s mother, but is really is the villain the entire time. Other Mother slowly makes children believes she is their real mother and then will sew eyes as their buttons and steal their souls.
30. Harry and Marv
Harry and Marv from the Home Alone franchise come off quite silly to most children. That is until late at night when they start to fear burglars will come into their home. Harry and Marv target a house to break into, which is a common crime and that is what makes it scarier once the movie is done. Once the laughs have worn off, the fear that they will break into your house comes and that what makes them scary villains!
