Are you stressed out about folding your clothes good enough to fit them in your space? Or maybe your blankets? Or bed sheets? It happens to the best of us but luckily, there are some insider secrets to getting the perfect fold. Here are 30 hacks that will save you both space and time.
Layer up
If you have a couple of long sleeves to fold, try laying them on top of each other first. Then, fold each sleeve inwards, followed by the bottom and the top, until it is perfectly packaged into a neat little rectangle.
No jacket is too big!
Have a terribly puffy jacket? Treat it like a sleeping bag and roll it up into itself. Starting at the bottom, turn it inside out and roll it in an upwards motion. Then, go to the top and roll that inside the part you turned inside out.
Jeans? No problem
There are a couple of ways to fold jeans. One of them is to start by folding one leg over the other parallel, and then rolling the top of the jeans in. Halfway through, take one pant leg and cross it over. Then, fold the other leg in and continue until it’s square.
Jeans for travel
If you’re packing jeans to put in a suitcase, slightly fold the waistband inside out. Then, roll the jeans up from the bottom.
Socks for when you’re at home
When you’re folding socks at home, start by laying them perpendicularly on top of each other. Fold the right side over the middle and tuck it under, then fold the bottom upwards. Then fold the left, and then the top. Boom, done!
Socks for travel
When traveling, simply lay the two socks on top of each other (parallel) and roll them up! At the end, fold one sock over the other so they stay put.
T-shirts
At home, start by folding the sleeves in, followed by folding the top of the t-shirt up. Then, fold the bottom up and then again one more time to make a rectangle. Then fold it the other way to make it a perfect square.
Hoodies
Neatly fold a hoodie by turning a small part of the bottom inside out. Then, fold each sleeve inwards, followed by the hood. Then fold it over one more time in that same direction.
Sweater
Sweaters are easy! Turn the bottom portion inside out and then fold each sleeve in, criss-crossing. Then fold each side inwards. Then turn the sweater to the side and fold it inwards again.
Underwear
It’s small, but it still needs to be folded! Start at the top and roll it inwards. About halfway through, flip it over and then fold each side in. Then, continue rolling upward until you can pull the outer layer over the roll. Magic!
Bras
Yes, there’s even a smart way to fold bras! First, make sure it’s hooked. Then, put the backs of the two cups together and pull both of the straps over them.
An entire outfit
Are you looking to be an over-achiever? Well now you can be, by folding a pair of pants, a t-shirt, underwear AND socks all together in one. First, lay the pants on top of the shirt, and then the underwear on top of the pants. Fold the underwear in half. Then fold both sides of the shirt over the middle of everything. Then add each sock at the very top, perpendicular to everything else. Start rolling everything up from where the socks are and then flip the socks over the rolled up outfit.
Towels
Start by flipping the left end down and the bottom end up. Then flip the top half down. After that, roll up the towel from the other end and pull the folded end over the roll.
A shirt inside of a sweater
Lay the shirt on top of the sweater. Fold all four sleeves in, and then gently nudge the sweater sleeves up. Flip the bottom of the shirt up and then pull the insides of the sweater over it. Then fold both the left and right sides completely over. Then begin rolling up!
A thin bag
Start by folding the left side over the right side, then the right side over the left side once more. At the bottom, fold just one corner up, and then repeat all the way up. When you get the the top, stick the bag handle inside.
Bed sheets
Fold it in half and tuck the corners in to one side, then fold the whole thing over once, then fold the other side over. From the other end, fold that as well. Keep folding until it’s a square.
Very high socks
Height? Not a problem. Simply lay them on top of each other and then roll all the way up. When you get to the top, flip one sock inside out to cover the other sock.
Shirt, underwear and socks
Simply lay the underwear on top of the shirt, and then fold the sides of the shirt over it twice. Then lay the two socks at the bottom, with toe ends on the inside. Roll everything up and then use the socks sticking out to pull over the roll.
Long sleeve shirt
Fold each sleeve across one another and then fold the left side in, followed by the right side. Then fold the bottom up and flip the whole thing over!
Multiple pairs of underwear
Fold one pair in half and then add the next pair over that, continuing to fold over. Add as many pairs as you want!
Jeans
Start by folding one leg over the other, and then flip that leg up. Then from the waistband, roll the jeans down. Use the leg sticking out at the end to pull over the remaining roll.
Long sleeve shirt
Fold the bottom part up. Then fold both sleeves in so that they cross over each other. Then fold each side in. Then from the top, fold it down until it’s fulled packed into a square shape.
Towel
Here’s a different way to fold a towel! Fold the bottom left corner up and then fold the bottom half (not corner) up. Flip the whole towel over and then roll from the bottom up.
A long sleeve shirt with a hanger
Lay the shirt down and fold it once, then place the hanger in the center. Then flip the bottom of the shirt over the hanger once, and then flip the sleeve over. Easy, done!
Socks
Simply lay one sock over the other and then roll up. At the end, flip the top end of one sock over the other.
Long sleeve shirt
Here’s a different way to fold a long sleeve. Lay it out, back side up. Fold one side and one sleeve up. Fold the other side and sleeve down. Then fold from the bottom up and flip over.
Bed sheets
One of the most terrifying things to fold! Simply stick two of the corners into the opposing corners, then fold as you normally would.
Hoodie
Here’s another way to fold a hoodie: Back side up, fold the sleeves in. Then fold the sides in and the bottom up. Fold the bottom up again, and then the hood part down. Stick the whole thing inside the hood. Compact!
Comforter
Lay it out and break it into thirds. After folding it three times, fold it the other way until it’s square. Then turn the one end inside out to fold inside.
Pillow case and sheets
All in one! Simply put the folded sheets inside the pillow case and then fold the pillow case over as you normally would.
