As the novel coronavirus continues to spread across the globe and claim the lives of thousands, some people showed just how insensitive they are on social media. The majority of us have taken the pandemic seriously and are behaving in a responsible manner but there’s always going to be folks who surrender to panic or even take advantage of the situation.
However, it’s not something new. A global crisis such as this one tends to bring out the worst – and best – in people, regardless of their social, religious, or cultural background. In the past few weeks, we’ve seen people hoarding supplies like there’s no tomorrow, engage in price gouging and use the coronavirus outbreak to make extra profit off someone else’s misfortune.
These 30 people aren’t a shining example of humanity but their example at least shows us how not to behave during this difficult time.
1. “The Old Man & His Wife In My Building Rarely Leave Their Apt. They Was Very Pleased”
Nobody really understands the toilet paper hoarding frenzy, as so far there’s no proof that toilet paper protects you from the coronavirus. People can be really weird and selfish during times of crisis. Stealing usually is something that shouldn’t be condoned but in this case, we applaud this person for what they did!
2. Dear John
Paid leave would be the least of his concerns if he really had the coronavirus. This way he just got owned by HR and made everyone on social media explode into laughter!
3. “This Man Drove 1,000+ Miles And Bought 17,000 Bottles Of Hand Sanitizer And Wipes, But Now He Can’t Find Buyers. Boo-Hoo”
Is it some sort of survival instinct that drives people to act like jerks or it’s just selfishness? Whatever the case, you’d be probably glad to hear that this guy and his brother donated the rest of their stash to people who actually need it.
4. There’s not enough toilet paper for everyone
They may get infected by the coronavirus but that’s alright… providing they don’t run out of toilet paper. We’re at a loss for words.
5. “Just…. Man, [screw] Her. I’ll Never Understand Why People Are Such Assh*les”
Just in case you come across this woman, be sure to remember to give her and her improvised toilet paper stand a wide berth. Truly, some people have no shame.
6. Words of wisdom
It’s not a good feeling when you walk into a store to buy essentials during a lockdown and be greeted by empty shelves. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid during a major epidemic but that’s no excuse to hoard stuff you don’t even need in such quantities and leave others with nothing.
7. No comment
“My co-worker has been coming into office because he feels “fine” and shows no symptom. Now my senior manager still want to have all hands meeting where bunch of people (+20) crammed into conference room to discuss telecommuting plan.”
Update: Now my a-hole manager wants doctor’s note if you are calling in sick. If employees are self quarantining for any suspicious symptoms, last thing you want to do is go outside to get a [frikinn] doctor’s note!
Let’s just hope the manager doesn’t get sick and doesn’t experience the taste of his own medicine. Is it too much to ask from people like him to act like decent human beings?
8. Toilet paper vs Coronavirus
No, this is not a scene from the ‘Walking Dead’ but our world during the coronavirus pandemic. Sadly, the excess of toilet paper doesn’t make it for the lack of solidarity these people demonstrate every day.
9. No sh**t
Based on what we’re seeing here, we can assume they don’t plan on leaving the toilet at all during their self-isolation. Buying such insane quantities of toilet paper is a pretty shitty thing to do, in any case.
10. “Australia Right Now. Corona Virus Panic Has Already Hit”
We can understand Bitcoin but toilet paper? Seriously? These are crazy times we’re living in when toilet paper becomes a new currency.
11. “My Kid Has A Non-Coronavirus Related Fever. But Panic Shopping Has Made It Hard To Find Medicine”
People – including kids – are getting sick all the time, just like before the coronavirus outbreak. We’re sick of people whose selfishness denies other people the medicine they need. It sucks.
12. “Another Profiteer clearing out thermometers at Costco. Spent his time in the line up bragging how much money he would make marking up the sale of these”
While doctors and medical staff across the globe fight day and night to save the lives of people who’re suffering from the coronavirus, others spend their time profiteering and bragging about it. It’s enough to make one sad and angry at the same time.
13. The fancy font doesn’t make up for the lack of humanity
What do you call a person who drives a very expensive SUV but wants to earn an extra income by selling toilet paper during a dangerous epidemic? We have an idea – lowlife.
14. Sad reality
“Almost everything is sold out at Costco. All cleaning supplies and rice are gone, almost all meat and canned goods as well, and most produce and other food items.”
We get that people are afraid but panic bying is only going to make things worse for everyone, virus or no virus. This is the time to show solidarity, not selfishness.
15. “Seattle Has Chosen Its Food Of Choice For Corona Catastrophe 2020”
And it’s… dried beans. The thought of spending the apocalypse on dried beans is a depressing one. Well, at least now what was the reason behind all that toilet paper frenzy. You’re going to need a lot of toilet paper if you cook all those beans!
16. “Assh*le In My County Bought All Of This Toilet Paper And Is Now Trying To Sell It In Various Facebook Groups”
He got some nerve trying to sell all that toilet paper via Facebook, though judging by the tone of his post, this person seems to be pretty shameless. Whatever you do, never buy anything from such people.
17. “This Person Is Buying Three Pallets Of Disinfectant Wipes. Don’t Be This Person”
When all this is over, people who succumbed to panic buying will realize just how silly they were. Hopefully, it will be a lesson to them not to act as total jerks during a crisis.
18. “Costco As Soon They Announced School Closing”
At some point, we really begin to wonder whether these people were more afraid of catching the virus or running out of toilet paper. It must be the latter because there’s no other logical explanation why would they be crowding together during a dangerous epidemic. We humans can be really disappointing.
19. As long as I have milk…
We’re pretty sure they were planning to re-sell all that milk in the parking lot though we hope no one was careless enough to buy it. There’s no excuse for profiteering during a pandemic.
20. “People Are Panic-Buying Eggs Now? You Assh*les Know You Can’t Grow Chickens With Those Right?”
When life gives you eggs, you make an omelette. Someone’s going to need a lot of fridge space to store all those eggs, but that’s their problem, right?
21. “Entitled Woman Goes To Red Robin”
A wee bit of solidarity and behaving in a responsible manner during a virus epidemic that can potentially kill thousands wouldn’t hurt. It will certainly hurt much less than contracting the virus or infecting someone else with it.
22. “This Couple In Canada, Reselling Wipes Online For Around $90 Cad Bought From Costco’s”
Let’s hope nobody’s dumb enough to actually buy these wipes from them. If that forces them to give them away for free, we’ll count it as a victory for humanity.
23. Profiteering at its finest
The best and most effective way to defeat profiteers is not buy their products. A regular soap will do just fine.
24. “This picture was taken at my local Costco. We’re doomed folks”
When disaster strikes, some people take it as a signal to forsake the last traces of their humanity. Selfishness and greed can actually cause more damage to society than the virus.
25. “Father And Sister Of St. Louis County Woman With Coronavirus Violated Quarantine By Going To A School Dance”
We simply can’t decide what’s more disturbing: the fact they felt the need to go to the dance whilst knowing they have coronavirus or the fact that willingly exposed other people to the virus. The danger is real and we all need to act responsibly to protect both ourselves and others.
26. “Empty And Messy Shelves At A Tesco Supermarket After Panic Buying”
No, it’s the results of a hurricane or a zombie apocalypse that you’re seeing – it’s panic buying. Turns out that panic buying is no less dangerous.
27. “Buying All Hand Sanitizer”
Luckily for the rest of us, hand soap works better against coronavirus than hand sanitizer. It’s not about protecting themselves – these people choose to be selfish as*holes.
28. “Today’s line as soon as Costco opened. People fighting for water, toilet paper, rice, and other essentials”
Two words describe what’s happening here pretty well: herd mentality. Stay home, avoid crowds, and spend more time with the people you love. You don’t want to be these people and fight for toilet paper in a crowded store.
29. “British Shoppers Are Being Urged Not To Panic”
People tend to do the exact same thing they’re told not to do, something that becomes quite apparent during a situation such as this. The fear of the virus is no reason to surrender to panic.
30. “You’re Part Of The Problem!”
We end the same way we started – with toilet paper. 2020 will forever go down as the year when coronavirus spread across the globe and the year when the world ran out of toilet paper.
