A 3-year-old martial arts student, otherwise known as “Taekwondo Kid,” displays perseverance and honest enthusiasm despite repeated missteps on his way to a major, personal martial arts milestone.

Anyone familiar with Taekwondo knows that the first major accomplishment for a student, generally, comes when given the white belt.
According to dojang.com, the white belt is meant to symbolize innocence and a new beginning in the martial arts world.
As an examination in front of parents and peers, the Taekwondo instructor presents his young student a board to be broken by applying force in a downward motion with his foot. After an initial discussion with his instructor, Taekwondo Kid takes stance and readies himself for quick combat. Alas, his first attempt proves unsuccessful, all the while utilizing a unique, outlandish technique.

Unfortunately, jumping on the board with both feet doesn’t cut it.
After several more attempts, Taekwondo Kid then speaks with his instructor, who provides encouragement and words of advice. The instructor directs his student to use his right foot, apply more force, and aim for the center of the board.
After many more repeated failures, Taekwondo Kid again takes stance and attempts to break the board.

Taekwondo Kid’s foot then cuts through the board like a knife through bread. Oh, the technique! The board is left shattered in two pieces, to the extreme satisfaction of all in attendance.

Poetic justice, at last.
In the end, the young student succeeds with a hearty smile on his face. As a reward for his relentless efforts, his instructor congratulates him with a bow and a handshake. Next, he presents him with a flashy new white belt, solidifying Taekwondo Kid as a growing disciple in the martial arts world. The new belt is securely tied and fastened around his waist.

Instructors, students, and parents all rejoice and applaud before the bubbly, triumphant Taekwondo Kid runs away in excitement. Young Taekwondo Kid even took a moment to congratulate himself, joining in on the clapping – he deserves it.

Ultimately, Taekwondo Kid’s actions emphasize that an unwillingness to give up coupled with honest enthusiasm lead the way to success. Even when obstacles are initially difficult and trying, a healthy smile and unrelenting attitude will lead to triumph and achievement.
