Being promoted in the U.S. Marine Corps is a very serious and very special occasion. When you are promoted, you are basically being given more responsibilities, like leading the rest of your team.
Usually these promotions are very plain ceremonies, for lack of better words, however this one US marine in particular celebrated in a very special way.
This marine appeared to ring in his new promotion with his 3-year-old son.
In a video posted back in 2016, the marine being promoted marched to the front of a formation during the ceremony. Once he finds his spot, a senior marine reads out the commander’s order, which explains what his new responsibilities entail.
“As a sergeant of Marines, you must set the example for others to emulate. You are responsible for the accomplishment of your assigned mission, and for the safety, professional development, and well-being of the Marines of your charge,” the senior marine read out loud.
“You will be the embodiment of our institutional core values of honor, courage, and commitment. You will lead your marines with firmness, fairness, and dignity while observing the following orders of your senior leaders and enforcing all regulations and articles…” he continues.
After he reads the commander’s orders, a very special guest makes an appearance: the marine’s 3-year-old son.
The little boy walks up to the marines (including his father) with clear excitement. As he makes his way to the front of the formation, the first words out of his mouth are, “Good afternoon, gentlemen.” It is hilarious and his father sweetly laughs along, seemingly surprised and happy.
Then the promoted marine (A.K.A. his father) kneels so that his child can remove his chevrons and pin the emblems of his new rank onto his father. It is the most adorable moment ever.
Watch the son pin the new rank on his father is extremely adorable.
His son takes his time as he pins his father. His father looks very poised and put-together but still has a slight smile underneath his uniform. You can tell he’s really happy to be there as he makes sure his son is okay and is pinning everything correctly. When his son finishes one side, his father directs him to what he needs to do next.
A fellow marine then adds in a joke, saying he’s getting good practice. The marine being promoted laughs at the joke and agrees!
As the son wraps up the pinning of the rank, his father says, “Good job.” Then, before the son runs away with excitement, the two share a beyond cute hug.
The video has gone viral since then and is now up to over 10 million views along with over 70,000 likes.
Viewers of the video are very much in love with the promoted marine and his relationship with his son, too. “You have a beautiful family sir. Thank you for your service to your country,” one person wrote.
“The marines keep finding a way to become more cool,” another person commented.
