Have you ever encountered something that is really satisfying, but you can’t quite put your finger on why? On the Reddit page Oddly Satisfying, people post whatever they come by that is satisfying or seems perfectly organized. It’s a great read if you’re looking for some inspiration, or if you just want a soothing experience.
Here are some of the best, most satisfying moments from it.
1. They used nature to create art
Oftentimes nature seems a little too wild to be truly satisfying. But this person took the time and effort to find all the bright colored leaves and arrange them in a perfect circle to create a beautiful mosaic.
2. Bread can be more satisfying than it already is
Bread is normally satisfying, but this beautiful focaccia, with different herbs and vegetables laid onto it is even more so.
The shapes and scenes that occur might make you want to avoid cutting into it altogether, and just admire it!
3. This boiling water might be a miracle
It almost looks like there’s a glass dome on top of the pot, making it impossible for the water to spill over.
The constant bubbles that don’t slide down the pot like they normally would but rather coalesce into a pyramid shape are really captivating to look at.
4. This lawn almost looks like a checkers board
Someone must have put a lot of time and effort into this lawn. The geometric shapes and layout are fascinating, especially when you compare them to the less manicured lawns in the picture.
5. Make sure your tattoos get their shot too!
Even pinup girls need their vaccine! The pharmacist’s sense of humor here makes us wish that more people had tattoos on their biceps.
Not only does the Band-Aid cover the person’s shot, but it also perfectly fits over the tattoo’s arm as well.
6. What perfectly fitting tiles
The USPS knows a thing or two about staying on brand. These tiles that are fitted to look exactly like envelopes make the whole post office experience come together.
The tiles above that look like stamped envelopes are the icing on the cake.
7. The smoothest pavement you’ll see all winter
Have you ever seen pavement so smooth? This is pavement that has not been blemished by snow and ice or earthquakes.
It may seem far from reality, but it is satisfying. Imagine driving on something as smooth as this fresh road.
8. This frost brings out some features of this sculpture
No, that white lining is not part of the sculptor’s original plan. It’s the winter frost that settled perfectly on this sculpture, looking almost like an extra layer or blanket.
It also intensifies the scene and adds some shading to the edges.
9. This is emotionally satisfying.
It’s great to see people put effort into a project that will improve their life in the long run.
This person cleaned out their garage, which had previously been used for storing odds and ends, and turned it into something functional that they can use now. The fact that they tied this to their mental health struggles hints at a brighter future.
10. This Pepsi can became a work of art
The spiral shape that came out of this shows incredible attention to form. It’s likely that this Pepsi exploded because as water freezes, its molecules also expand, meaning that the drink in the can got too big and it had to go somewhere else.
It’s just fortunate that the explosion resulted in something as satisfying as this.
11. The dog struck a pose
It would be great to know if the owners buy this dog food because of its similarities to their dog.
The fact that the dog’s body language mirrored that of the dog on the food bag makes this moment more satisfying.
12. This is a baking win
Many bakers can relate to the feeling of victory when your cake remains intact after taking it out of the tin.
While many times bits and pieces of a cake will stick to the pan, this picture encapsulates a great moment.
13. Extremely neat handwriting
While more people wish that they had neater handwriting, this person is living the dream. Each letter is spaced perfectly apart, it almost looks like it was typed.
14. If you’re going to break something, this should be how you do it
The shards of this broken glass are the exact same size and shape. Even the little triangles that broke off are all about the same size. Given how symmetrical this break is, it would be easy to glue it back together. But why would you, when the break is so pretty?
15. It’s like a grid of snowfall
When the snow is light enough, it’s easy for it to land gently between the cracks of a deck. Only when it’s heavier will the snow fall more in between the cracks as it looks for a place to land.
Fortunately, this person caught the snow at just the right time in order to make it look aesthetically pleasing.
16. This is the Platonic ideal of cabinet arrangement
Not only are the mugs arranged with some attention paid to how the colors will look together, it really looks like everything has its place here.
Instead of having a bunch of mismatched boxes, the identical mason jars that house the powders up on the top shelf create a sense of order that matches the other aspects of the cabinet space. The organization of this cabinet is inspiring.
17. This is an innovative use of empty space
Much like the cabinet in the previous slide, this spice rack brings a layer of organization we often crave in kitchen spaces. The poster made great use of the sliver of empty space between their fridge and wall, and created a spice rack that slides out of the wall only when you need it.
This probably stores more spices than the usual cupboard, and you can see them all at once.
18. Might as well make your loose cables look good
While we can’t always control what cables need to go where, what we can control is how good they look. Rather than letting the cables become a jumble, these cables have been shaped and color-coded to perfection.
Color coding, and arranging items by color, is particularly satisfying because it reduces what is called “visual noise.”
19. Have you ever seen a watermelon so empty?
It sure seems like these chickens loved the watermelon! It’s rare, and cool, to see something like a watermelon be so empty and clean. It’s normally quite hard, and unsavory to bite down so close to the rind.
20. This snow is rare
Sure, snow can be known to act in strange ways, but rolling into a scroll like this is top-tier. It almost looks like you could pick it up and it would still be intact.
All sorts of things are satisfying to us, but images like these are in a class of their own. Although many of these pictures may look similar to what we encounter in our daily lives, their symmetry, organization, or uniqueness create an experience that is just a little bit more satisfying than usual.
