Parents give 2-year-old McDonald’s drive-thru experience with her favorite treat during lockdown
Not a bad way to make a child's day.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the world has been on lockdown. And because we are all on lockdown, we obviously have not been able to go out and do any of the things we would normally love to do, like go shopping, go to live concerts, visit our friends, or even enjoy a nice meal out for a night.

This has been extremely hard for everyone but just think about the young children. They really have no idea what is going on so they are confused. On top of that, they went from going to school and seeing friends every day to nothing — just being stuck inside. And no child wants to be stuck inside.

It is safe to say that the last few months have been a challenging struggle for everyone and has especially put a strain on families who live together.

This little girl, Marekura, had a birthday coming up but with lockdown, the possibilities were looking a bit bleak. After all, during a time like this, you can’t really throw your child a birthday party. They can’t be around friends… And you can’t even really take them out for a nice lunch or dinner.

Her birthday was definitely a challenge at first but luckily, her parents decided to get creative and do the best that they can. We have to say that the final result is pretty impressive and turned out great!

Turns out you can make anything happen — all you need is some creativity and a good imagination. A little bit of help from close friends definitely helps too.

With a bit of all of the above, these loving parents figured out a way to recreate a drive-through experience at McDonald’s from the comfort of their own home in New Zealand.

Marekura’s favorite treat is a cheeseburger from McDonald’s so they wanted to give her that treat, of course. But with lockdown still in place, they figured out a way to create a social distancing-friendly “drive-through” window.

“What are we doing in the car?” Marekura’s parents asked her with excitement. “I don’t know,” the two children replied. It’s true — they really had no idea what was coming and were very confused in that moment (but excited of course).

Then, all of a sudden, the two children saw some signs that would give them a better understanding of what was happening: The famous yellow arches, the uniform that their friend was wearing in the window, and the bags, with big McDonald’s logos on them, that were passed to them.

The bags had food inside that was all homemade (which is perhaps even better than what you would get at the chain restaurant!).

And don’t worry, the parents didn’t forget the most important part of every Happy Meal: The toy. Each child found a toy in their food bag which made it extra special and authentic.

We would definitely prefer to not be experiencing a pandemic but we have to say, this doesn’t sound like a terrible way to spend your birthday.

We’re so happy to see the parents get creative and come through for their children!
