Makeup helps people change or enhance their appearance. It can even help you bring out your natural features.
Cosmetics are incredible for their ability to take years off a person’s face (or, we suppose add some years in some cases).
But check out these glamorous makeup transformations, along with some tips for achieving the same look:

1. Look how much brighter her eyes seem
According to celebrity makeup artist Sandy Linter, playing up your eyes creates a more youthful look.
Younger people tend to have bigger, wider eyes, but older women can achieve this same look with some makeup tricks. She recommends using an eyelash curler and applying eyeshadow gradually to build up the drama without the clumping.
2. Don’t be afraid to bring back some old school glamour
This woman is an absolute smokeshow, and she didn’t need plastic surgery to achieve this age-defying look!
One way this makeup artist helped her look younger was by focusing on making her lips looks bigger. Aging can cause our lips to thin and get feathery, but carefully overlining your lips with lip liner and emphasizing your cupid’s bow can help your lips look fuller and more youthful and make them a focal point.
3. Her maternity shoot makeup makes her glow
Pregnancy changes your face in some surprising ways. Some women get dark spots, a swollen face, or puffy eyes instead of the “pregnancy glow” we all imagine.
But here, you can see how much highlighter, some lashes, and a bold lip can change all of that.
4. Brighten up
According to sixtyandme, wearing dark or nude lipstick can wash us out — and that’s something you might want to avoid as you age.
Instead, wearing bright lipstick can help enliven your face. And by focusing on filling in brows, you can balance out the whole look.
5. This woman is in her 40s!
Makeup is so powerful for its ability to turn back the clock.
Although this model looks great as is, her makeup really makes her seem younger (even if we could never pull off those lashes). Contouring can be really helpful to achieve this look.
6. Illuminate your face
Using a highlighter really brightened this woman’s face up!
The AARP also recommends focusing your makeup efforts on the center of your face because that’s what most people notice when they look at you. By following this tip, this woman seems to have eradicated the lines around her mouth.
7. It’s like her undereye bags disappeared
Undereye makeup is a world unto its own, and it can be really tricky because it’s easy to make things worse.
In fact, there are at least 12 different ways to apply concealer to your under eyes.
Typically, using two different kinds of concealers, one darker and one lighter, will help reduce the appearance of puffiness under the eyes.

8. She doesn’t even look like she’s wearing that much makeup
By focusing on highlighter to make the inner eyes and cheekbones glow, a makeup artist helped this woman look years younger and completely natural at the same time.
Other ways to achieve a natural makeup look are to press on lipstick with your fingers and use cream blush to blend into your skin better.
9. Rock a bold lip
It’s particularly important to make sure that you are using a lipstick that won’t lead to feathering or flaking off, especially if it’s a bold color.
Because we tend to lose the collagen around our lips and gain wrinkles there, you don’t want to apply lipstick that will exacerbate that. Using a hydrating formula and applying lip liner will help you out a lot, as you can see here.
10. Makeup seems to have sculpted her face
One of the quickest ways to look younger is to use a concealer that is slightly lighter than your natural skin tone in the right places.
For example, by applying that concealer around your eye space, you immediately brighten up that whole area. That makes the skin around your eyes seem tighter, and it may be one of the techniques that this woman used.
11. Let your hair down
The makeup here definitely helps this woman create a more luminous and younger glow (and more natural brows!), but the hairstyling also works well to frame her face and make her seem more joyous and vibrant.
If you’re planning on updating your hair to go along with a makeup change, make sure that you style it so that it’s bouncy and full-volume, and that it frames your face to emphasize your bone structure.
12. Age spots are normal, but they don’t have to be visible
Age spots are a normal part of getting older. Some of the procedures that people treat them with are laser treatments, cryosurgery, or microdermabrasion.
But this woman proves that a powerful foundation can also go a long way!
13. The eyes have it
Yes, unfortunately, our eyebrows do thin over time. It’s a natural part of the aging process, but it’s hard to not feel upset about it.
To create the look of fuller brows, simply get an eyebrow pencil and fill in the sparse areas with thin, natural looking lines. You don’t want to overdo it though, and you want to maintain a natural shape as well!
14. More evidence for the power of contouring
This transformation is a great example of the power of contouring. As we age, our skin loses it’s elasticity, and contouring is a great way to combat that.
Contouring helps to define and shape your face so you can emphasize the parts you like and obscure what you don’t.
15. Heavy eyeliner works for some people
Even though women have been told for years that you must stop wearing dark eyeliner at a certain age, this photo proves that it’s not always true.
In fact, celebrity makeup artist Sandy Linter chimed in to say: “In the old days, they used to say only use brown, but it’s a falsehood that women over 50 can’t use black. You need to create a contrast between the eye color and liner. Brown can make you look tired if it’s not the right brown.”
Makeup should be fun and helpful for people of all ages. These women show that makeup doesn’t just have to be an anti-aging tool, it can also be a way to express yourself and your moods.
As your face changes with age, that’s just another opportunity to learn new tricks and fun makeup hacks!
