The hit show America’s Got Talent features people who have all kinds of talents, and one popular talent we see often is music, whether it is artists who can sing or play an instrument.
But usually when there is a musician on the show, they are covering a song.
14-year-old Benicio Bryant started out with a cover. He gained major popularity after swooning judges with a cover of Brandi Carlile’s “The Joke,” in fact.
But during one of the latest rounds, he took a very big risk and decided to do something that is not usually seen among musicians on the show — he decided to play an original song.
As he entered the stage with his acoustic guitar, judge Julianne Hough exclaimed, “I’m so excited,” as all of the other judges agreed with smiles.
“I have not stopped thinking about you since the first audition,” Hough said. “Because you below me away. I gotta say it’s a lot of pressure now, because I love you so much.”
Then she asked Bryant what he was going to do to really raise the stakes. After revealing he had an original up his sleeve, both Hough and the audience cheered with overwhelming support.
Then his performance started, and the young artist began plucking at the guitar. “Life can be a battlefield/ Scared to know what could be real,” he sang, showing off his stellar vibrato. Judge Simon Cowell watched in complete awe within the first few seconds.
“I’m dreaming of another life/ I’m dreaming and I’m here to fly/ I’m dreaming that I could touch the sky,” he croons, his voice absolutely soaring. “Here goes nothing,” he sings — which is the title of the song — as if he is jumping off a metaphorical ledge with his powerful, fearless voice.
When he finally finished his empowering song about taking chances despite being scared, the crowd gave him a standing ovation without any hesitation. Even the show’s host, Terry Crews, cheered him on from backstage.
The best part is even judges gave him a standing ovation — all five stood up, including guest judge Jay Leno, who was incredibly impressed by the boy’s raw talent.
Family members were also shown, seeming as if they were on the verge of tears because of how beautiful his performance was.
Fans have been going crazy for Bryant’s performance on the internet too. “At 14 I couldn’t write an essay on my best friend,” one person wrote in the comment section. “This gave me chills. When is his album coming out?” another person wrote.
“Benicio presents as such a likable authentic person with raw talent. Very easy to like,” one new fan realized. “I honestly think he could win the whole thing,” another said.
