Student loans are a thorn in this generation’s side which is why there are lots people looking for ways to reduce educational costs. The best way to avoid student loans is to attend a tuition-free school.
So, here is a list of American colleges:
1) Webb Institute’s Ship Program
Students who attend the Webb Institute graduate with a dual BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. They offer full-tuition scholarships, valued at $48,350, and also need-based aid to cover the costs of attending their school. Not only do they teach you how to build naval ships but they place you in a job afterward.
2) New York Residents at CUNY and SUNY
New York state now offers free tuition at CUNY and SUNY schools to residents whose family household makes less than $100,000 a year or less than $125,000 over the next three years. The only catch is that you have to live and work in New York for four to five years (or the same number of years you received free tuition)at the school. You can find more information here.
3) U.S. Military Academies (USMA)
The selection process for this program is pretty competitive. You’ll need a congressional recommendation, as well as physical and academic evaluations. But if you make the cut you’ll get an invaluable military education.

4) Free Ivy League Education
Yes, you can go to the very best schools in the country for free. That is as long as you’re accepted. Here are Ivy League schools that offer free tuition for lower-income students:
- Brown University (family incomes of $60,000 or less or who qualify for a Pell Grant)
- Columbia (families making $60,000 or less)
- Cornell (families making $60,000 or less)
- Dartmouth (household income must be less than $100,000/year)
- Duke (families making $60,000 or less)
- Harvard (household income must be less than $65,000/year)
- MIT (household income must be less than $75,000/year)
- Princeton (household income must be less than $120,000/year)
- Stanford (families who make $125,000 or less)
- Vanderbilt (although a minimum household income is not noted outright, they promise to provide for low-income students)
- Yale (household income must be less than $65,000/year)
5) The Curtis Institute of Music
There are 150 spots offered at this school and it is very competitive. But if you make the cut you can attend this Philadelphia school to be an orchestra musician, opera singer, or composer for free. Many of their students end up in the Philadelphia Orchestra.
6) Tennessee’s Community Colleges
If you live in Tennessee, you can attend community college for free. You have to be a state resident for at least one year. You also have to attend part-time or full-time and must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
7) College of the Ozarks
This gorgeous green campus offers a Christian education and seeks to develop students who are well-educated, hard-working, and patriotic. They offer free tuition to students that work on campus for 15 hours a week. They say it builds character.
8) Oregon Community Colleges
Oregon has a program called Oregon Promise which is a state grant that covers most tuition costs at any Oregon community college. Students must be a recent graduate of an Oregon high school or have a GED from Oregon. Get the rest of the details and requirements here.
9) Free Minnesota Schooling For Two Years
MnSCU Two-Year Occupational Grant Pilot Program offers free tuition to students enrolled in certain career and technical programs at Minnesota State’s two-year colleges. The goal is for students to complete the two-year program and find work in high-demand occupations. Get the details here.
10) Berea University’s Work Program
Beara College in Berea, Kentucky offers free tuition. Students pay about $1,000 on average toward housing, meals, and fees. They do offer financial assistance for books. You can find all of the details and requirements here.

Students who have lived in San Fransico for at least one year can enroll at this school for free. It doesn’t matter how old they are or what their household income is. Get the details here.
