When you have a dream, the only way for you to achieve it is to do whatever it takes to make it real. While some budding musicians are lucky enough to get discovered through talent competitions, some who don’t get the opportunity to join these contests end up building their future from scratch.
On the busy streets of San Francisco, Gabriel Angelo can be seen as he performs with his trumpet and entertains passers-by with his amazing talent. He was only 12 years old at the time. For the young musician, playing on the streets was a great opportunity to practice his skills, and a chance to give entertainment to the people as well.
However, there was also another reason that has led him to perform on the streets to earn money. He wishes to support his musical education with the money he earns from his street performances.
Wearing his hat, suit, and tie, this young man does not only play his trumpet beautifully, but he also tap dances like a pro! People were just so amazed by his incredible talent.
For Gabriel, music is more than just a passion. It is what breathes him to life and his dream is to be a master in his field. He just loves jazz music and was studying in the S.F. Conservatory of Music and Berkeley Jazz School so he could live his dreams of becoming a musician.
However, paying for music school does not come cheap at all. Therefore, Gabriel came up with the idea of doing street performances to help him out in paying for his musical education.
On one of his street performances, Fabian Sixtus Korner of the blog Stories of a Journeyman got to witness Gabriel’s outstanding and highly entertaining performance. He filmed a short documentary on Gabriel and called the episode “The Trumpet Kid”.
In his blog, he had these wonderful things to say to the aspiring musician:
“… When you see him out there just passing by, it feels like he is a professional and experienced performer. Kind of a grown-up in a child’s costume, handing out business cards to people who are interested in booking him for an event. But after I got to talk to him I realized, he’s a kid like all the others but also a kid like no other.”
After being featured by Fabian, Gabriel must have gathered enough confidence to try his fortune at talent competitions and joined the sixth season of America’s Got Talent. He was able to pass the preliminaries although he did not make it to the live rounds.
Despite the defeat and hardships, these did not stop him from continuing his lessons and fighting for his dream to become a successful musician. His passion for music is completely inspiring and only tells everyone that no matter how hard life can be, there should never be anything that would stop you in reaching for your goals.
His viral video has been viewed more than seven million times to date. Until now, people who get to see the video still can’t believe just how amazing this young guy is. Gabriel Angelo is more than just the boy who played the trumpet or the boy who tap-danced while playing his instrument. He represents what it is to have a dream and finding every possible way to get him closer to that dream.
