We all have things that we’re self-conscious about.

It could be our skin, our weight, in fact anything about ourselves can be a painful insecurity.

For some people however, the thing they hate the most about themselves can be something as obvious as the nose on your face.

Pamela went to television show The Doctors with her advanced case of Rosacea, desperate for a solution.

Her nose was swollen and her complexion was scarred from acne.

Now, after The Doctors did what they do best, Pamela has gained a whole new lease on life!

Dr. Travis Lane Stork introduces the story of “Pamela, whose one wish was to change the reflection she saw in the mirror.”

Pamela has a bad, specialized case of Rosacea called Rhinophyma.

It is a skin disorder that causes the nose to become enlarged and bulbous and the nose may look red, swollen, and distorted.

There is no known cause for it.

Some theories are that alcohol consumption can also sometimes play a role, and even caffeine has been blamed.

Both can cause dilated blood vessels.

Pamela experienced most of the symptoms like,

  • lumps on the nose due to the growth of extra connective tissue
  • red or purplish discoloration
  • enlarged pores
  • thickened skin
  • scarring or pitting
  • dry or oily skin

She had previously appeared on the show to talk about her case a few months ago.

In her first visit she explained how she used to have beautiful skin, and plenty of confidence.

“When I was fifteen, I had beautiful skin. Puberty set it, acne set in. It started to get really bad.”

After having a few kids, Pamela started to notice that her skin was getting worse and worse. Imagine how she must have felt like.

She was experiencing outbreaks of acne, oily skin and another noticeable change… her nose began to swell.

Something that would cause anyone to panic if we’re being honest.

Pamela explains that she was so embarrassed by her swollen nose and red, oily skin that it even stopped her from leaving the house!

She suffered from anxiety related to this, and was not getting the enjoyment out of life that she needed. It was clear that something would have to change…

Pamela decided she needed The Doctors’ help.

“There is actually hope for your condition because it can be helped!” Dr. Sonia Batra told Pamela on the show.

There was a light at the end of the tunnel.

In order to get the help Pamela needed they brought in board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Anne Zedlitz.

…And Dr. Zedlits had some great news:

“In the early stages, topical medications and some oral medications will suffice as the disease progresses, then we can utilize laser therapy. In the advanced stages surgical intervention is required. I would like to do all these treatments at no charge, if you will accept them.”

The audience cheered to this news, ready to see where Pamela’s journey would go next!

After three months of treatment, Pamela returns to the show with a brand new look!

“Unreal. I barely recognize you because you look so great!”

-Dr. Stork exclaims as she takes her seat.

Her transformation has been drastic. The swelling in her nose has gone down dramatically, and she simply cannot stop smiling. Dr. Stork asks her how it makes her feel and her answer is simple:

“Happy!”

“I’m excited about the new me! I no longer hide behind my hair.”

“It’s truly a new beginning!” Pamela continues.

It’s clear that she’s beaming with pride, now with more confidence than ever.

Her skin looks incredible and her nose shows no signs of swelling. It’s clear that Dr. Zedlitz has done an incredible job.

Pamela explains that this was a prayer from four years ago, and it was the team on The Doctors who made it happen.

Pamela says how grateful she is, although her glowing smile says it even better.

To complete the reunion, Dr. Anne Zedlitz returns to the show to talk about all the hard work they had all put into this makeover.

“I broke it down into three stages” explains Dr. Zedlitz

In the first stages I used a CO2 laser…Basically de-bulked at that stage”, the next stage involved ultherapy, which used ultrasound to tighten the skin.

This intensive treatment took several stages, and required healing in between sessions.

Then lastly:

“This is the third step, we did re-volumization, where we did fillers to re-volumize the face and certain parts of the acne scarring also.” Zedlitz explains.

To finish up, Pamela has been put on oral medications, which will dry up the oil in her skin.

These medications will dry her skin up permanently, by shrinking her oil glands and shrinking the pore size. At this stage Pamela has only been on these medications for two weeks of a six month course, so as Zedlitz says:

“Her skin’s going to continue to get better.”

“Truly remarkable” says Dr. Stork finally before saying once again, how good it is to see Pamela smiling.

She must have felt like a totally new woman! And good for her. Pamela’s got a lot of places to go to. Places she’s missed for so long.

Watch below to see her incredible transformation – not only on the outside, but inside too.
