One of the best things to do after a very tiring week is by having a good time with family or friends in a pub. There, you no longer need to worry about deadlines or quotas, just you and the lively party on a cozy and chill evening.

This was the best way for Paula Grzelak-Schultz and her husband. Together with another couple, they all shared a good time in a pub with a bottle of fine wine.

When they were about to go home, Paula figured out that it wasn’t a good idea to drive themselves home. So, she decided to leave their car overnight in front of the entryway to Original Joe’s Restaurant & Bar in Sherwood Park, Canada.

They obviously got the upper hand from the influence of alcohol. To bring themselves home, the couple had decided to just take an Uber ride.

Surprise surprise!

The following day, Paula returned to get the car that she left at the pub’s parking lot. To her surprise, under her car’s windshield wipers was a piece of paper that looked like a memo.

At first, she thought she was in actual trouble because of leaving her car overnight at the pub’s parking lot. Paula expected the note to be a ticket for what she did, however, it was something she didn’t really expect.

The person behind the note was Jay McLean, the managing partner at Original Joe’s and it wasn’t even close to what Paula had expected. What’s written inside the note was an appreciation message from McLean, he commended Paula for deciding not to drink and drive.

The message read:

“I’m not sure if you had consumed alcohol at our restaurant or not, but we wanted to thank you for not drinking and driving.”

McLean even rewarded Paula by attaching a voucher for chicken wings at their restaurant.

“Please accept this as a thank you for being responsible. Life is valuable, have a great weekend,” the appreciative man wrote on the note.

Talking about the day when she got the note left on her car’s windshield, Paula told CBS News:

“I was sure it was going to be a ticket or a scolding from someone for leaving my vehicle there for so long. I was truly surprised and so pleased that the manager took the time to acknowledge my good judgement.”

To share her good experience with the rest of the world, Paula decided to upload a photo of McLean’s message on her Facebook account.

“Wow! I’m so impressed. Definitely going back. Not just because of the voucher, but because of how well this guy treats his patrons,” she wrote along with the photo.

On the other hand, McLean spoke to Global News and said:

“With OJ’s, it’s all about community and I thought this was the perfect way to impact my community. They came here and they chose to spend some of their few precious free minutes with us. I just hope they feel appreciated and thanked for not getting behind the wheel.”

As it turned out, Paula wasn’t the only customer who experienced McLean’s kindness. He’d been doing it to his customers for over a year with absolutely no expectations.
