Back in 1988, a young actor named Tom Hanks jumped onto a giant piano and played “Heart and Soul” and “Chopsticks” with his feet. Just like that, an iconic scene was born!

Thirty years later, this scene from Big is still very well-known, and Hanks is still asked about it. In 2013, when Hanks was promoting Captain Phillips on The Jonathan Ross Show, Ross asked Hanks to recreate the scene.

The funny segment began with Ross pulling back the carpet on his stage. He revealed he was hiding a giant floor piano.

Hanks was surprised when he saw the piano, but he knew just what to do. Hanks played a few bars of “Heart and Soul”, and it was clear he was enjoying bouncing around the keyboard. Ross also tried playing a few bars of “Chopsticks” with Hanks.

Then, Ross left the stage and let Hanks play on his own. Hanks “played” a fast song while the audience cracked up at the bit. Ross also “played” the floor piano, and it was clear he was a natural foot player.

After that, it was the moment everyone had been waiting for: it was time for Hanks to play “Chopsticks”!

To successfully recreate the scene from Big, Hanks needed a great partner. Instead of Robert Loggia, Sandra Bullock joined him!

Bullock and Hanks are friends, and they starred together in the 2011 movie Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. Bullock was on The Jonathan Ross Show to promote her movie Gravity. There was just one problem: Bullock wore spiky high heels that weren’t ideal for piano playing.

“Now we can do ‘Chopsticks,’ but maybe not in your heels,” Hanks says to Bullock in the video. “Oh, I can do ‘Chopsticks’ in my heels,” she replies confidently.

Sure enough, Bullock did an amazing job playing in her high heels. Hanks, Ross, and the entire audience were very impressed.
