Priscilla Bailey is a collector of trinkets— and although she wasn’t looking for anything special at the Saver’s store in Plymouth, she left with something that made headlines worldwide.

While perusing the items at the thrift store, Priscilla came across a blue, heart-shaped ornament.

The piece was made by wrapping shiny blue foil over an etched, heart-shaped base. From the bottom of the heart hangs a small chain with a bead. On the top, there is an ornament cap that allows the owner to hang the heart from a wall or a tree. She told WCVB:

“Somebody had the wherewithal to put it all together and have it made and probably hung it in the house.”

“And now, it’s hanging over the sink where I do dishes.”

As an avid collector of knick-knacks, Priscilla was automatically drawn to the heart, which bore a price tag of only $2.99.

Priscilla carried about her day, not thinking more of the ornament until she arrived back home. There, she removed it from the bag and started taking a closer look. When the woman held the ornament in her hand, something about it didn’t feel right.

Although she knew the heart was made of a hollow casing, she swore she could feel the weight of something inside.

Priscilla knew the idea was silly, but she couldn’t get it out of her mind. She became obsessed with figuring out the truth and later asked her husband for a bit of help.

Priscilla’s husband helped her shine a bright light onto the ornament— and sure enough, she could see something inside.

After fully investigating the ornament, Priscilla is now convinced it is an urn that contains somebody’s ashes.

As you can image, the woman was shocked. She immediately contacted the store to tell them what she had bought. “They said we could return it and they would dispose of it properly,” Priscilla recounted. “And that wasn’t going to work right for me.”

Now, Priscilla and her daughter are on a quest to discover the rightful owner of the urn.

They’ve been making posts on social media, hoping to discover the story behind the blue piece. “It’ll be fun seeing what happens,” Priscilla said. “And hopefully someone comes forward.”

“I went through our town here in Plymouth, through the ‘Plymouth Connection’ and ‘All Things Plymouth’ [social media pages] and it’s spreading like crazy, so hopefully we find its owner.”

Until then, however, the ornament still hangs above Priscilla’s sink.

“My spooky friend,” she calls it.
