Lauren Taylor is like most of us. She has a home that she shares with a roommate and presumably a pet or two. Like many of us, she probably also enjoys having guests over on occasion. But when an unexpected guest showed up in her home, she was still surprised!

Lurking behind the sofa

She had come home thinking it was just another ordinary day, but a closer look revealed a very interesting surprise – a mountain lion was asleep behind her sofa!

Lauren speculates that the big cat probably entered her home through a backdoor that was left open. She thinks the mountain lion may have taken a drink from a pond in her backyard prior to entry.

A natural spot to rest

The home is set up in a very special way – to look just like nature. Her staircase is built around actual tree branches, and is also decorated with huge potted plants. The large cat probably didn’t even know she was indoors!

Upon gaining entry the home, the mountain lion was startled by the Lauren’s roommate. She screamed as her eyes met the mountain lion’s, to which the lion responded by hiding behind the sofa. The animal then decided to stay right where it was and took a nap for several hours.

Lauren recounted the story on her personal Facebook page. She was not afraid in the least. A woman with knowledge of animals, Lauren wanted to remember this encounter as something spiritual and blessed. The story garnered over 17,000 views, and even captured the attention of Fox News.

She urged others not to interact with mountain lions, and advised that cats are “extremely psychic and perceptive.” She felt that the cat had been in a place of fear or anger but that the time to rest had given the animal a chance to regain a sense of calmness and curiosity.

Getting to know the new roommate

Lauren took this opportunity to communicate with the big cat. She went outside and looked in the living room window at the animal. According to Fox News, Taylor made a noise to wake up the feline, and then used blinking eye cat-speak to communicate.

She kept the mountain lion calm, even after her housemate had come outdoors to see what Lauren was doing. The feline ultimately just decided to keep on sleeping! She was very relaxed and calm in Lauren’s home.

Lauren knew she had to act fast to get the mountain lion out and back into nature, where she belonged. She tried to communicate with the animal but without results. After some thought, it was decided that the best way to gently awaken the lion was by using drums.

This would hopefully allow her to leave without panic. Lauren began calmly drumming. The experience was almost magical – the animal gently awoke, and made her way out the door, over the creek, and through the nearby empty field. The experience was what Lauren called “blessed.” It was a good thing that nobody, including the mountain lion, was hurt during the ordeal.

Lauren is hopeful and confident that the vistor will not be back. The mountain lion was quick to leave the building once the drumming started and went back towards nature and away from homes when she left. Lauren wishes her a long and healthy life. We say the same!
