It can be a real struggle to evaluate where you are in your life. It’s easy to get down on yourself, whether it’s about a relationship, school, or money.

In Faye Lewis’ case, it was her career that was causing frustration.

While being a single mother, Faye was also pursuing her Doctorate degree to become a nurse practitioner. Not too long ago, she decided to go through all of her old work badges from past jobs. During this she also had a chat with her supportive mother about the challenges of being a single mother while also going to school.

To hold herself accountable and give herself a little push of inspiration, she decided to then share photos of those old badges to friends on Facebook.

Little did she know those photos would soon go viral.

I just needed to remind myself how far I’ve come. I never in a million years would think it would also motivate other people to go for what they want.

Faye’s first job was at Kentucky Fried Chicken when she was just 16-years-old. She went away to college but continued to work at KFC. Sadly, she got two B’s in her classes, resulting in a rejection letter from nursing school. In 2010, she gave birth to AJ, her son.

She went on to be promoted to a manager position but she was still striving to become a nurse.

She also worked as a housekeeper.

Then she completed her certified nursing assistant training and began working at a medical center.

Then she decided to pursue her Associate’s degree in nursing. While in school, serious tragedy struck her family and her father and three cousins were killed in a house fire. On this she shared, “When I heard the news, I dropped to my knees. My mom made it out alive just by a miracle of God. I had a supportive family and I knew my Dad wouldn’t want me to quit.”

So as you can assume, Lewis kept pushing forward despite the terrible loss and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.

And don’t think she did each of these jobs one at a time. Faye was working as an LPN by day, working at KFC by night, taking care of her son, and continuing her education. All at the same time.

She earned her Associate’s degree in 2014 and her Bachelor’s degree in 2016.

Lewis is working toward her Doctorate today. Her piece of advice for people in similar situations is this: “Keep trying. Never give up and stay positive through all of it.”
