Dancing is very enjoyable to watch especially when both the dancers are genuinely having fun. Even if the mood is set to serious, we often can’t help but enjoy two smiling dancers having the times of their lives.
These middle-schoolers brought the fun out with their cute dance routine
Brooke Farrior and Billy West competed on the National Shag Dance Competition in 2020, one of the largest dance competitions in the U.S. that is annually held at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The two are still in middle school, but they sure have the guts to compete in this big competition, in the Junior Division, to try and end up on top.
In this competition, it is expected that they would meet a lot of strong competitors, but that did not stop them from going on stage to show what they got.
There’s nervousness but it instantly faded away when they started dancing
As young performers, they might have felt the immense pressure of being the center of attention of such a large crowd. Farrior taps her partner on the shoulder as they walked in front, to ease a bit of the nervousness.
Even when the dance was about to start, you could still see how nervous they were.
However, the moment their dance started; their legs flowed smoothly on the dance floor like butter. The audience gave them their loudest cheer, and that might just have scared their nervousness away.
The young duo smiled as they went through their routine.
They danced to Chubby Checker’s Pony Time, a dance song that was fairly popular back in the 60s. Of course, when you hear this song in this generation, it would certainly surprise you.
The audience as well as the judges can’t take their eyes off the two as they performed their swing routine with perfection. They are amazed by how Farrior and West showed off their twists and turns. Furthermore, you’d also admire how fluid their footwork is for the rest of their performance.
Billy West’s rubber legs
One of the highlights of the performances would surely be West’s leg movements.
Someone was able to point it out on the comment section saying that he got rubber legs. And he was right, there is no other word that could perfectly describe West’s legs while dancing.
If you would watch him the whole time during their performance, his footwork would stand out more because of how he made his legs look like they’re elastic. Especially when he was doing the squat routines, it looked like he was smoothly bouncing using the momentum from his rubber-like legs.
They danced like it was just a warm-up
Another great thing to notice in their dance is how it looks like they’re practicing on the spot. Farrior silently mumbles as if she guides her partner West throughout the dance. There are all kinds of fun during practice, and that was what they casually showed during their performance. It was like they’re dancing not to compete at all.
In the end, their dance routine won the competition
With perfect synchronicity, fluid routine, and a fun tune, Farrior and West ended up on top. No matter how many times you look at their performance, you’d see how they deserved their win. Hopefully, we get to see this pair this year too.
