The bond between a mother and daughter is special. Mothers often act as role models, teachers, and best friends to their girls, and Dominique Davis, a fashion blogger and mother of 2, has been showcasing this bond in an adorable, ongoing photo series called This is Three.
Davis, and her two daughters, 11-year-old Amelia and 4-year-old Penny, take these delightful photos while wearing adorable, matching outfits.
The themes of the photos often go along with the seasons or holidays, and the pictures are usually captioned with cute stories and ponderings from Davis herself.
In an interview with Bored Panda, she says, “I’d left my job back in 2015 to stay at home with the children full-time. It was amazing, and it’s a decision I’ve never regretted.”
Still, however, “At times it did become quite lonely. Instagram gave me a mini escape in between changing nappies and doing the school run.”
During one of Davis’ days home with the girls, she posted a picture with the hashtag #allthatisthree to Instagram— a play on her blog name, All That is She.
Dominique tells Bored Panda, “The #allthatisthree photos came about by chance. One morning, I’d unintentionally dressed myself and Penny in matching striped tops, then Amelia emerged from her bedroom wearing one too. We’d laughed about it and when I was struggling for an image idea later that day, we thought we’d share our joke with everyone else.”
That one photo got more than 16,000 likes on Instagram, ultimately encouraging Davis to post more.
Next, she tried an adorable coordinated watermelon photo along with with the caption “Daughter-melon”.
And the photos just kept going from there.
In one photo caption, Davis says, “What I love about the #allthatisthree photos – aside from the fact that I get to document the girls and how they change each week – is that it captures the relationship between a mother and daughter, and two sisters. Anything I wear, or any hairstyle I do, Amelia wants to do the same. This flows down to Penny too; anything Amelia says, wears, does, Penny is quick to follow. We all imitate each other.”
June of this year marked the one-year anniversary of This is Three. Alongside their anniversary photo below, Davis wrote:
“I wonder; can we go for another year? What will the next year of images look like? And how long until my bed is free of glitter and stars?”
In an interview with Huffington Post, Davis said her oldest daughter Amelia has a “huge heart” and hopes to one day be a wildlife conservationist. Penny on the other hand, can be considered the typical toddler, being described as “bossy, headstrong, inquisitive, full of character and has the ability to make you cry with laughter (or just cry) at any given moment.”
The photos have become a way for Davis to chronicle their lives. She told the Huffington Post they are “so special for me to look back on that we’ve just continued to create them every week.’
