A good dad never wastes the opportunity to play a prank and that’s just what a Kentucky man named Timothy Eberle did. He had just installed a new Simplisafe doorbell. Its high-tech features gave him the idea of playing a good-hearted prank on his father-in-law.
“I told my father-in-law that our new doorbell has a retina scanner to unlock the door,” he said.
Of course, Eberle also had security camera footage installed to capture the hilarious results for posterity.
In a video that has now been viewed 1.2 million times, his father-in-law can be seen approaching the front door and vainly trying different ways to position his eye to let the “retina scanner” capture his image. Finally, he gives up and rings the doorbell.
If you think there’s any limit to the dad pranks, think again.
Eberle is far from the first dad to go viral for messing with his family members. In fact, back in 2016, another father from the UK pranked his daughter at the worst possible time — her own wedding!
When father-of-the-bride Andy Todd stood up to give his speech at the reception, he was geared up to play a prank that was a long time in coming.
As he stood up in front of all the guests, he pointed out the beautiful three-tiered wedding cake. And then he started to lift it.
“I’d just like to say, has anyone looked at this cake because it is absolutely fantastic,” he said, inviting the guests to thank the person who made the cake. As Todd lifted it, his daughter Dina could be heard begging him to put it down. But Todd wouldn’t listen.
The guests screamed in horror as suddenly, the cake tumbled from his hand, scattering across the floor.
The bride was on the verge of tears. But Todd was quick to reassure her that it was all a joke. He had replaced the real cake with a decoy cake just for the sake of the prank.
‘I’d been planning it for six months and I didn’t even tell my wife,” said Todd.
“On the way to the church I was having second thoughts – it could go one way or the other. My wife had told me not to do anything to wind Dina up. I didn’t want to make it last too long. I didn’t want her to cry and have mascara running down her face. I made sure it only lasted a few seconds before I pointed out the real cake at the back.”
Although his daughter was stunned at the moment, she joked that he had made certain she would always remember her wedding day.
Dad was surely scolded by his wife and other wedding guests. Now, they can all laugh about his poorly-timed prank.
There’s no doubt that some people really love pulling pranks. Whether they’re harmless or big enough to upset a wedding, hopefully, they’re done in love — and we can all laugh about them eventually.
