He really should have thought this through before sticking his hand where it doesn’t belong.

Especially right now, it feels as though the world is filled with nothing but bad people. But that’s not true. The majority of individuals in this country have good hearts. They’d do anything to help another human out, even if that person is a stranger.

Even on a small scale, some people struggle to make the right choices in life. As a perfect example — sticky fingers. That might entail someone taking a candy bar from a convenience store without paying or perhaps helping themselves to money from a tip jar.

The world of surveillance

If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that most businesses have some kind of security system in place. With surveillance cameras, owners can record comings and goings throughout the hours of operation. This is for both employee and customer safety. Usually, these systems don’t pick up anything of importance but once in a while, they catch someone doing something bad.

Going out for pizza

Just about everyone loves pizza. That includes people who live in Fort Myers, Florida. At one establishment, a tip jar sits in full display. That allows customers to drop money in for the employees since they don’t wait tables yet they offer superior service.

Trusting individuals

Not only is the food at Rosati’s Pizza Sports Pub delicious but the people who work there are also amazing. Since they care about their customers, they go out of their way to provide outstanding service. These employees, as well as the owner, are trusting, too.

No need to hide the cash

That’s why they have no problem leaving a tip jar in plain view. But after what happened recently, they might rethink that decision. Remember the discussion about surveillance cameras? Well, the one at Rosati’s caught something disturbing.

Here’s what unfolded

One Friday evening, an unidentified man walked into the pub to grab food. At the end of the day, one of the carry-out drivers noticed $20 missing from the tip jar. So, the owner pulled up the camera feed and that’s when he saw this man take the money. While it wasn’t a lot, that didn’t matter.

Theft is theft

Even if this guy only took $5, it’s the principle that counts. There are enough bad things happening in the world right now. For someone to brazenly walk into a sports pub and steal tip money is a pretty low blow.

A financial impact

A lot of people who work in the restaurant industry are younger adults. Sometimes, this helps them with college expenses or simply trying to make it on their own. The tips that customers graciously give go a long way in helping them pay their bills.

On the lookout

So far, this man hasn’t been caught. But that doesn’t mean the police aren’t looking for him. As seen in the surveillance images, he appears to be in his early 20s. At the time he stole the money, he was wearing a black shirt, black pants, black shoes, and a gray cap. From the looks of it, he too might work in the restaurant business.

Challenging times

Beyond the riots, most restaurants are still limited to the number of people they can serve due to COVID-19. For Rosati’s, they’re only operating at 50 percent capacity. For that reason, every penny the workers earn is even more important than before.

A possible clue

In reviewing the camera images more carefully, one of the servers realized this guy was there to pick up a delivery order. Unfortunately, he wasn’t assigned a driver through the company that provides that service. Even so, it could be just what the police need to nab him.

As for everyone at Rosati’s, they plan to keep doing what they’ve always done — provide excellent service and make incredible food. They just hope that at some point, this guy will be identified. After all, if he’s stealing from them, he’s likely doing it to others as well.

If you live in the Fort Myers, Florida area, we encourage you to take a minute to watch the video. Who knows, you might just know who this man is.
