Aubrey Fontenot found out that his son was being bullied but instead of anger, he showed compassion.
A Houston father named Aubrey Fontenot chose to show kindness instead of giving in to anger when confronting his son’s bully. Their beautiful and inspiring story has now been shared thousands of times.
We’re pretty sure many of us can relate to this issue. It is definitely more common that anyone else could think and bullying is a serious matter.
When Fontenot found out that his son, Jordan who was just 8-year-old was being picked on at school, he was angry. Who wouldn’t be?
He found out that the boy who was bullying his son was way bigger than him and his name was Tamarion. For most of us, we could have already gone to the principal’s office and have reported the incident or even confronted the bully but not Fontenot.
Instead of fighting fire with fire, and instead of escalating the issue, he decided to be the better man and talk to the boy himself. He didn’t scold him; instead, he invited the boy out for some one-on-one time together.
You’ve read that right. Fontenot was able to set aside his anger and decided to make an example and reach out to the kid. After asking for permission from Tamarion’s family, Fontenot picked Tamarion up from school and drove him around Houston, Texas.
At first, the tension was stiff. Aubrey wanted to give Tamarion the time to settle and made him feel comfortable by asking him to sing. Soon, the boy started to laugh and from there, he gently asked Tamarion about why he was bullying Jordan.
Tamarion’s story isn’t something that we have expected.
Tamarion opened up and said that it was because he was also being bullied. For him, trying to bully others is a way to redeem himself and his confidence.
After a quick phone call to Tamarion’s mom confirmed that his family was homeless and they were having trouble finding financial stability.
Aubrey didn’t have to think twice, he knew there was a reason why this happened and he had the opportunity to make a change for this boy. He then took Tamarion out shopping for new clothes just like what he does for his son; he was there to make Tamarion feel like he was his own.
“We have no clue what these children are going through these days because a lot of us just don’t care. And this is not an uncommon story for a lot of people. So, I spent a lot of my day yesterday by shopping and teaching this young man about self-respect. Integrity. Morals. Confidence. And other things that consist of going from a troubled youth to a great man,” said Aubrey on his GoFundme post to remind all of us that we should never judge.
Soon after, Aubrey sat Tamarion down across the table from his son and asked them to talk things out. A bit of awkward silence and then Aubrey eventually got them to “settle things as men” and start a conversation.
Aubrey also shared a photo of his son and Tamarion playing video games. What a beautiful story indeed. Additionally, Aubrey started a GoFundMe page for Tamarion’s family – and now, it has raised $31,663.
