What happens when five fun ladies put on their hats and lace up their boots?

They’ll dance! It’s time to get away from the city life and enjoy the country. So look for a decent spot by a lake or a river, talk to your friends and why not shoot a dance video? Line dancing sounds good!

That’s what these women are doing. Thays Monaro, Mitie Ishizaki, Ana Julia Fiori, Lais Gonçalves, and Mikaeli Dantas have over 16.2 million views line dancing to Alan Jackson‘s “Chattahoochee”.

The song and dance combination make for a light-hearted, fun dance that embodies the theme they were going for.

The song really is about the Chattahoochee river which forms part of the border between Alabama and Georgia. The story goes that Jim McBride, who co-wrote the song with Alan Jackson, knew about the river since he was raised in Alabama.

A poet named Sydney Lanier wrote a piece called “Song of the Chattahoochee” and as Jim was sitting in his office one day, reading a book about the river, he started humming a little melody and from there he got the first two lines of the song.

Alan Jackson was already very popular which meant they had to write on the road.

They kept notebooks and traded ideas for lyrics until McBride realized that Jackson was raised in Noonan, Georgia to which the Chattahoochee river was close to.

This was a song born of destiny. The lyrics speak of a man who goes back and remembers his younger years by the river.

“Yeah way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin’ and a little ’bout love”

So find a spot by the trees where the grass is flat and dance away! Line dancing is great as even beginners can follow the steps.

These girls with the same colored hats and similarly color themed tops are all about that line dancing.

Big smiles on those pretty faces as they kick and step from left to right, then face right then left, before a smooth spin for heel taps.

It’s okay if you don’t get all the steps right too!

They each get a solo act as well.

One by one they dance in front of the camera while the others sit back, have a chat, and just enjoy the country side. Who wouldn’t?

Looks like those solo parts served as good practice too. They band together once more, this time in front of the lake, and you can see how much more enthusiastic and in sync these ladies are. It boils down to counting. That’s the secret to line dancing. Each particular movement or step simply takes place at each beat.

It’s an uptempo song and it will have you counting while panting but these ladies nailed it!
