When the phrase “passive-aggressive” first appeared, many people scoffed. After all, these two words contradict each other. Well, we hate to inform the nay-sayers but this is real.
This is an indirect resistance to the demands of others, whether through personality characterization or behavior as a way to avoid direct confrontation. Simply put, a person acts in both a passive and aggressive way at the same time. For anyone who doesn’t believe it exists, check out these 75 notes.
1. Torturous
Here’s a perfect example. If someone’s singing is so bad you feel the need to leave a note, why listen? Next time, consider earplugs.
2. How sweet
Someone took the time to cook dinner. But the fact they wrote “again,” makes them passive-aggressive. Hopefully, it tasted okay.
3. Push them aside…
…that’s all this individual had to do. Instead, they wanted to get the point across to their server. Creative but kind of rude.
4. Taken literally
That’s what it seems like. The copier wasn’t able to accommodate large printing jobs. So, after someone posted this note, a passive-aggressive person had to make it literal.
5. Public Service Announcement
We don’t know if this was for a spouse or roommate. But it doesn’t matter. All they had to do was remind them. Was a note like this really necessary?
6. Staying fit
This individual must love yoga so much they’re willing to teach it to their neighbor at no charge. Nope. They just don’t like dog poop on their lawn.
7. Over the top
This note came from a passive-aggressive person who appreciates theatrics. Then again, it might be from someone with a weird sense of humor. We’re guessing it led to even more glass-tapping just to see the reaction.
8. No kidding?
So, there’s no such thing as a Dishwasher Fairy? Wow. This note probably burst someone’s bubble, you know, the person who believes in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.
9. Point taken
The individual who read this probably got the message loud and clear. But if they were an adult, it likely came across as childish. On the other hand, it’s creative and unique.
10. Busted
This is the worst kind of passive-aggressive person. You know, the one with hard evidence. We just wonder how long they stalked the neighbor to get the photo.
11. Making a statement
The people who live at this house got new neighbors. Unfortunately, they’re blatantly against LGBT. So, the existing homeowners decided to make a not-so-subtle statement in support of it.
12. Scavenger hunt
In this case, someone wasn’t looking for items but rather a person. They get credit for trying. Hopefully, the individual who left the original note was found safe and sound.
13. More aggressive than passive
Okay, it’s annoying to have someone next door who blares their TV. We get it. But perhaps writing a note that’s a little more passive than aggressive will yield a better outcome.
14. So many questions
Considering someone had to post a note about this, we’re assuming it’s happened more than once. Here’s the deal. Passive-aggressive or not, we have to side with the employee on this one.
15. Can’t accept it
When the microwave at work broke, an individual went off the deep end. With artistry skills, he vented this frustration. This might go beyond being passive-aggress.
16. Saying it like it is
On one hand, this neighbor bluntly made their point. On the other hand, they did it in a funny way. At least it was funny to them but as far as the neighbor, they might not agree.
17. Teenagers
Most of them toss dirty clothes wherever they land. This parent wasn’t looking for an answer. More like acting in a passive-aggressive manner.
18. Somewhat poetic
Perhaps this roommate thought being poetic would have a bigger impact. Probably not. But at least they had to try.
19. Waiting and waiting
Have you ever worked in an office with equipment that isn’t up to par? Yeah, that’s the case here. Not wanting to complain yet get a point across, this is the note one person posted.
20. That’s embarrassing
How embarrassing. The last thing someone wants is their neighbors knowing about their DUI and money troubles. But if they’re going to yell, they should expect a passive-aggressive note, right?
21. Passive, aggressive, and blunt
That’s one way to put it. No holds barred. But hey, no one likes drama…especially when it’s in a confined place like an apartment building.
22. Smarty pants
Why is this person alarmed? Was it that someone posted a warning? Perhaps because the door had an alarm on it? No one knows.
23. Being nice…
…and educational. Now, the recipient of the note knows to shut the refrigerator door. They also learned that milk is very spoiled. Just look at its comments.
24. Not playing around
Do you get the feeling this person has had enough? We do, too. At least they gave them three options.
25. Impressed but over it
This poster started by complimenting her neighbor. That’s the passive part. But then, she gets a little more direct. In comes her aggressive side.
26. Here’s proof
It seems as though one landlord didn’t believe his tenant had the rent money. Maybe they have a history of paying late. To prove they were telling the truth, the renter did this passive-aggressive move.
27. Fair question
Yes, this is what you call a passive-aggressive comment. But you can’t blame the person. They did ask a good question, after all.
28. Keep it down
The noise that is. We have no idea if the note targeted one person or any man who uses the restroom. Regardless, does pooping have to be so loud?
29. Almost perfect
This passive-aggressive person is quite young. Instead of a regular “Mother’s Day” card, this was the one he gave his mom. At least she got almost perfect grades.
30. Revenge is coming
Since someone went as far as to tell people to leave their mug alone, they meant business. Now, they have to figure out who the hand belongs to. That person better be careful…revenge is coming.
31. Quick connection
Here’s another person who might have more going on then just a passive-aggressive personality. It’s nice they liked the bird. But come on, five minutes?
32. Not the bird
Do you know what’s worse than one passive-aggressive person? It’s two passive-aggressive people. Correction, it’s a second passive-aggressive person who responds to a note written by the first passive-aggressive individual.
33. Typical
Often, a passive-aggressive person has high expectations. We’re sure this was a sarcastic reminder. But they need to remember that flushing over and over if there’s a clog is bound to be disastrous.
34. The illustration
Sometimes, you have to illustrate to get your point across. That’s what this roommate did. We’d be more worried about the subtle threat at the end of the note.
35. Well, thank you
If they knew their roommate would be so nice, they would’ve eaten the whole thing. But considering they’re dealing with a passive-aggressive person, that would’ve been a bad idea. Perhaps they should order two pizzas next time.
36. Straight to the point
Okay, this is gross. And the individual who wrote this has probably been dealing with the problem for a long time. At least they said, “sincerely.”
37. Forgetful minds
One of the things a passive-aggressive person can’t stand is forgetfulness. Case in point…this note. But don’t worry, they’ve got it covered.
38. Calling Sherlock Holmes
You can bet the person who wrote the original note will see this passive-aggressive response as a challenge. They probably won’t let the individual get away with this. Hopefully, they track down the culprit.
39. That’ll teach them
Of course, the writer of the original note was teasing. But now, the dressing might be ruined. They’re not going to take a chance.
40. Great example…
…of a passive-aggressive note. You see, they usually start with some kind of pleasantry. Then, things turn to the dark side.
41. Be like Carl
How cute. This almost looks like it could be a page out of a children’s book. And that little stick figure…adorable.
42. Head’s up
That was nice of someone to post a warning. As for “vends anger.” That we’d like to see. We’ve heard of venting anger but never vending.
43. What’s with disgusting toilets?
Apparently, a lot of people don’t think of others when going to the bathroom. This passive-aggressive person made it quite clear. Their artistry speaks volumes.
44. Someone noticed
Yes, the person who parked their car poorly thinks they’re the most important person in the world. And finally, someone noticed. Too bad that individual is passive-aggressive so their opinion doesn’t matter.
45. Pettiness 101
This passive-aggressive person has too much time on their hands. And they enjoy getting into other people’s business. But they get points for their well-made note.
46. Very thoughtful
Instead of asking for help, this person took care of the clog. That was nice. Please say they didn’t use the back scrubber to do it.
47. ROFL
Here you have one passive-aggressive person trying to prank as many other like individuals as possible. It looks like a few took the bait. And what’s up with that dog’s face?
48. Right to the heart
This is so sad. Not only did the thief make this person sad but also the penguin. That’s called trying to gain sympathy.
49. Clear instructions
Now, everyone knows the proper way to throw up. Gosh, such great information. More importantly, why is everyone getting sick?
50. The office is plagued
This is downright scary. Management posted a nice note. Then, the entire office of passive-aggressive people responded. Yikes.
51. Oh, the shame
How disrespectful. For one thing, someone did the opposite of what the sign asked. Secondly, they used a magic marker.
52. An entire year?
This note probably sent a lot of people into a tailspin. That’s a full year. Obviously, one passive-aggressive person needed a well-deserved vacation.
53. Poor Stella
Stella must have a serious drinking and littering problem. Or, her friends are having fun at her expense. Either way, she’s bound to feel mortified.
54. Fed up
This passive-aggressive person put their foot down. They’re not cleaning up other people’s dishes. Seriously? They could’ve loaded them in the dishwasher faster than it took to write those silly notes.
55. There’s always one
The original sign was simply indicating that the recycling bin wasn’t far away. But being passive-aggressive, someone had to set the record straight. After all, these people are all about precision.
56. An offer hard to refuse
Stealing is never okay, even if it’s only food. Besides, someone’s more than willing to put items together on their behalf. Notice the passive-aggressive behavior…first, they call the thief out followed by offering to help.
57. Nice work
Do you remember what we said earlier? A passive-aggressive person usually starts a note with a compliment. Here’s more proof.
58. Honesty
At least this coworker admitted to being passive-aggressive. And the note was kind. But signing “sorry” in ketchup made it more impactful.
59. Can’t blame them
Think about it for a minute. If you heard a rumor like this, you might be hesitant to help, too. Maybe…then again, maybe not.
60. Gotcha
You can’t do anything in today’s society without getting caught on surveillance. It doesn’t seem fair. The passive-aggressive individual who wrote this note is definitely kidding, right?
61. The friend zone
Few things are worse than being put in the friend zone. Well, there is one. Being put in the friend zone by canned food. Hate it when that happens.
62. Debbie’s reputation
Whoever Debbie is, she’s gained a bad reputation at work. Her issue…she likes to take food that doesn’t belong to her. As a result, multiple passive-aggressive people have put her in her place in a not so subtle way.
63. Not so fast
We have no clue what happened to this button. But one passive-aggressive individual thought they knew. So, they left a note. Honestly, it’s pretty clever.
64. Burn
Come on, it’s just a note, not a letter going to an important client. And who says Comic Sans is the wrong font for a Fortune 500 company? Well, it seems it’s this passive-aggressive individual.
65. Great comeback
You have to admit, this passive-aggressive person’s response is super funny. They have a point. They’re tired of the same old stuff and just want a new variety. What’s so bad about that?
66. Couldn’t leave it alone
See, if the person who responded hadn’t said anything, workers in the office might’ve thought things had improved. But no. They had to ruin it for everyone by proving the note wrong.
67. Pointing out the truth
The individual who placed the trash can here probably never thought about its feelings. But people with a passive-aggressive personality are quite sensitive. And without a mouth, they had to serve as its voice.
