A Prayer For Safety
In these crazy times experiencing a worldwide pandemic, people must do what they can to assume responsibility and help take care of one another. Each and every little thing we do to ensure we stay safe will only help us preserve more life and slow down the horrible impact Coronavirus has caused.
This is the mentality that Derek and Raquel Pearson have when it comes to taking care of their eight-month-old baby Lucas. Lucas has a special heart condition and issues eating that require him to take necessary supplementary thickeners to be able to eat. Doctors have warned that because of these health deficiencies, Lucas is more susceptible to respiratory infection if he contracts the virus.
“He needs special thickeners to be able to eat, otherwise he aspirates his milk, so we really depend on getting all of these supplies online so we don’t have to go out to the store and bring a virus home,” Lucas’ Raquel said. “We just want to minimize exposure to coronavirus.”
The Pearsons have taken proactive measures to make sure that they are practicing social distance etiquette and wearing face masks in public to take necessary precautions. The family voices the need for people to realize that there are some groups and certain individuals who are more vulnerable to the virus and thus implores everyone to do their due diligence.
“I just wish they understood how scared we are as parents, and how scared other people are,” Raquel Pearson said. “We really depend on them doing their part as well.”
Inspiring Delivery Caught On Camera
Some weeks ago, an Amazon driver by the name of Monica Salinas stopped by the Pearson’s estate to deliver a package that Raquel had ordered that contained feeding supplies for baby Lucas. The day Salinas arrived at the Pearson’s doorstep, something magical took place that was truly unexpected. Luckily, it was all recorded via the Ring doorbell installed in front of the doorway.
“I noticed that she was standing there, and I didn’t really realize what she was doing until I saw her doing the sign of the cross. I was like ‘Oh my gosh, she was praying’,” Raquel said in complete astonishment. “So, I kind of choked up a bit. It’s been really hard to get through this, so I’m really touched that a stranger would take time out of her day to wish our son well like that.”
As soon as the event transpired, Raquel immediately told her husband Derek who received the news like a breath of fresh air. The couple was in total disbelief.
Salinas, who delivers in Nampa, Idaho for a company called Custom Services through Amazon, said she was bewildered by the amount of attention that was given to her for the heartfelt gesture. She said her phone started to ring with calls and text messages filled with reactions to the beautiful video.
“People leave notes to thank us for going on the front line, and those are the things we appreciate,” Salinas said. “It’s nice to be appreciated.”
In the initial stages of the Coronavirus pandemic, Salinas mentioned she noticed a letter that was written and placed in front of the Pearson’s home.
“There was a note and it said their baby’s food was essential, and every time I see that note, it just touches my heart,” Salinas said. “I just stopped to do what my heart told me to do, to say a prayer for the baby and for the parents, because that’s got to be very painful for all of them to see their baby hurt and struggle. I just prayed that they can make it through another day, one day at a time.”
The couple were very warm and loving towards the gesture. Derek Pearson expressed his gratitude in the wonderful message and positive energy Salinas’ actions have had on the family. He expressed that this is exactly what they needed in these troubling times when it’s become evident that people need to come together now more than ever.
