Keeping the creative juices flowing is a great way to relax and have fun. It can also make you feel like a kid again.
Sometimes people find that as they age, their imagination lessens. But that doesn’t have to be the fate for all of us. Any little thing can get those juices flowing again and get the brain pumping out all kinds of ideas.
Add a baby into the mix and the possibilities become endless.
A young couple that moved from Melbourne, Australia to Sydney, Australia rediscovered their creative voices after their big move.
Leon Mackie and Lilly Lang had a lot of boxes leftover and they also had a 10-month-old son, Orson who needed entertaining.
Mackie and Lang are both self-proclaimed cinefiles. After all, they did name their kid after one of cinema’s most talented and respected directors, Orson Welles.
They decided that instead of tossing the boxes out, they wouldn’t waste the opportunity to utilize them to ignite their passions. They came up with the brilliant idea of recreating their favorite television and movie scenes and incorporating Orson into each one.
They debuted their idea on September 2013. They called the series “Cardboard Box Office” and it has since become a hit on the internet.
The couple posted a new scene every week or so. Thus far they have over 70 scenes.
As of November 2016, they welcomed their newest addition, Elliott, to their cast. Although his name doesn’t scream cinema star like his older brother’s, we’re sure he will shine just as bright.
The couple has also created a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and website to display their creations. They have said that all of their sets are made from items lying around the house.
Their Facebook page reads:
“The costumes, props, and sets in Cardboard Box Office are created entirely out of everyday household items, toys, cardboard, and three individuals slowly losing their sanity.”
They have also shared that each scene can take anywhere between three to five hours to complete. It’s practically a part-time job.
As their popularity grew, they began taking suggestions from their supporters on which scenes they should recreate next.
Lang said:
“We choose films that contain either an iconic set, costume, vehicle, or monster. If it doesn’t contain at least one of these elements the references in our version of the film won’t be obvious enough to work.”
It appears the couple has taken a break from recreating these memorable scenes. Their last scene was posted on their website on June 1, 2018. Still, they have undoubtedly, created quite the collection.
We’ve rounded up a handful of our favorites in the meantime.
