Man’s Performance Of “You Raise Me Up” Catapulted Him To Be Chosen As Phantom
This is one of the most incredible performances of this song I have ever seen. It’s no wonder he got cast to be a Phantom – what emotion he puts into his beautiful voice.

When Chris Mann sang his final performance on The Voice, he had no idea how much his musical career and his personal life would change.

When he auditioned on The Voice, he sang “Because We Believe (Ama Credi E Vai)” by Andrea Boccelli and got judges Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green to turn their chairs. He eventually chose to be on Team Christina, who helped him get to the finals.

He sang amazing performances throughout the season.

And when he performed “You Raise Me Up” during the finale, his rendition brought his coach to tears. And Cee Lo called his voice “incomparable.”

“I just believe that you’re like one of the best that we have,” Cee Lo told Chris during the battle rounds.

The Voice judge Adam Levine agreed and said that Chris was one of the best singers they’ve had on the show.

Chris, you came in here and represented yourself in a different light. You can do soulful ad-libs and runs and different things like that,” coach Christina praised Chris.

Clearly, the viewers agreed with the judges since they kept voting him to stay on the show. He finished in fourth place during this season and was the only Team Christina representative.

Because of his powerful stint on the talent show, he grabbed the attention of the world and a lot of powerful people in the music and theater industry.

He was able to release his first studio album, Roads, under Universal Records. The album featured covers of Lady Antebellum, Damien Rice, Coldplay, and Frank Sinatra songs. And of course, it also featured the vocals of his coach, Christina Aguilera.

The album shot to #1 on the Billboard‘s Heatseekers Chart and was part of the Billboard Top 200 and iTunes charts. Matt Collar of AllMusic gave the album 3 out of a 5-star rating.

“Roads beautifully showcases Mann’s Vanderbilt University-trained vocal chops. Rather than attempt to shoehorn Mann’s mature vocal aesthetic into a younger, teen- or dance-oriented sound, here we get a selection of thoughtful covers and originals that straddle the line between measured, adult contemporary radio styles and more of a classical crossover approach,” Matt Collar wrote.

He also released a Christmas album plus recorded a PBS concert special, “Chris Mann in Concert: A Mann for all Seasons” a few months later. When he went on tour for Roads, he also announced he recorded a PBS Christmas special, “Home for Christmas: The Chris Mann Christmas Special.”

And probably, the most important moment in his musical career at that time was getting personally cast by Sir Cameron Mackintosh and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera’s 25th Anniversary Tour. He stayed with the tour for two years.

When the tour ended, he joined the all-star cast of The Voice: Neon Dreams with other winners and favorites from different The Voice seasons. The Voice: Neon Dreams was going to be more than just a concert but an interactive show where they can check out memorabilia from The Voice, record their own demos and even get a chance to audition for a future season.

Unfortunately, the show was postponed while it looked for a new home in Las Vegas, Nevada, and then eventually canceled.

After the show, Chris married his longtime girlfriend, Laura, and they welcomed their son in 2017.

“I love being a dad. Hugo is the center of our world and we are loving every second,” Chris mentioned in an interview. “If Hugo is a musician, we think he’d be a drummer. He loves banging things and dancing to beats.”

He’s now back with his latest album, “Noise”, where he goes back to explore the reason why he loved music in the first place.

But he also mixed it with the life he currently had. The first single “Gentleman” was about his life now as a grown married man with a son.

“I wanted to talk about being a gentleman and how empowering that is. I think you can be a good guy and still give a woman what she wants,” Chris said as he described the first single.

After Noise, he’d like to return to Broadway but only for the right project. But for now, it’s all about “Noise.”
